Hechos 2
1 Cuando llegó el día del Pentecostés, todos estaban reunidos en un mismo lugar.
In the course of the Festival at the close of the Harvest the disciples had all met together,
2 De repente se escuchó un ruido que provenía del cielo, como un viento que aullaba y llenó toda la casa donde estaban.
when suddenly there came from the heavens a noise like that of a strong wind rushing by; it filled the whole house in which they were sitting.
3 Y vieron lo que parecía como diferentes llamas con forma de lenguas que se posaron sobre cada uno de ellos.
Then there appeared tongues of what seemed to be flame, separating, so that one settled on each of them;
4 Todos fueron llenos del Espíritu Santo y comenzaron a hablar en diferentes lenguas a medida que el Espíritu se los permitía.
and they were all filled with the Holy Spirit, and began to speak with strange ‘tongues’ as the Spirit prompted their utterances.
5 En ese momento había allí judíos devotos provenientes de todas las naciones de la tierra, que vivían en Jerusalén.
Now there were then staying in Jerusalem religious Jews from every country in the world;
6 Cuando escucharon este ruido, se reunió una gran multitud de ellos. Estaban perplejos porque todos escuchaban hablar en su propio idioma.
and, when this sound was heard, numbers of people collected, in the greatest excitement, because each of them heard the disciples speaking in his own language.
7 Y estaban totalmente sorprendidos, diciendo: “Miren, ¿no son Galileos todos estos que están hablando?
They were utterly amazed, and kept asking in astonishment: “What! Are not all these men who are speaking Galileans?
8 ¿Cómo es posible que les escuchemos hablar en nuestros propios idiomas?
Then how is it that we each of us hear them in our own native language?
9 Partos, Medos y Elamitas; gente de Mesopotamia, Judea y Capadocia, Ponto y Asia,
Some of us are Parthians, some Medes, some Elamites; and some of us live in Mesopotamia, in Judea and Cappadocia, in Pontus and Roman Asia,
10 Frigia y Panfilia; desde Egipto y el área de Libia alrededor de Cirene; visitantes de Roma, tanto judíos como conversos,
in Phrygia and Pamphylia, in Egypt and the districts of Libya adjoining Cyrene; some of us are visitors from Rome,
11 cretenses y árabes, les escuchamos hablar en nuestros propios idiomas acerca de todas las cosas grandes que Dios ha hecho”.
either Jews by birth or converts, and some are Cretans and Arabians — yet we all alike hear them speaking in our own tongues of the great things that God has done.”
12 Y todos estaban sorprendidos y confundidos. Y unos a otros se preguntaban “¿Qué significa esto?”
They were all utterly amazed and bewildered. “What does it mean?” they asked one another.
13 Pero había otros que se burlaban y decían: “¡De seguro han estado tomando mucho vino!”
But there were some who said with a sneer: “They have had too much new wine.”
14 Entonces Pedro se puso en pie con los otros once discípulos y habló en voz alta: “¡Hermanos judíos y todos los que viven aquí en Jerusalén: préstenme atención y les explicaré todo esto!
Then Peter, surrounded by the eleven other Apostles, stood up, and, raising his voice, addressed the crowd. “Men of Judea,” he began, “and all you who are staying in Jerusalem, let me tell you what this means. Mark well my words.
15 Estos hombres no están ebrios, como ustedes insinúan. ¡Noten que apenas son las nueve de la mañana!
These men are not drunk, as you suppose; for it is only now nine in the morning! No!
16 Lo que está sucediendo es lo que fue predicho por el profeta Joel:
This is what is spoken of in the prophet Joel —
17 ‘Dios dice: En los últimos días, derramaré mi Espíritu sobre toda la gente. Sus hijos e hijas profetizarán. Sus jóvenes tendrán visiones, y sus ancianos tendrán sueños.
‘It shall come about in the last days,’ God says, ‘That I will pour out my Spirit on all mankind; Your sons and your daughters shall become Prophets, Your young men shall see visions, And your old men dream dreams;
18 En esos días derramaré mi Espíritu sobre mis siervos —hombres y mujeres por igual— y profetizarán.
Yes, even on the slaves — for they are mine — both men and women, I will in those days pour out my Spirit, And they shall become Prophets;
19 Y haré maravillas arriba en los cielos y señales abajo en la tierra: sangre, fuego y nubes de humo.
And I will show wonders in the heavens above, And signs on the earth below — Blood and fire and mist of smoke;
20 El sol se oscurecerá, y la luna se pondrá roja como la sangre antes de que llegue el día grande y glorioso del Señor.
The sun shall become darkness, And the moon blood-red, Before the Day of the Lord comes — that great and awful day.
21 Pero todo el que invoque el nombre del Señor será salvo’.
Then shall every one who invokes the Name of the Lord be saved.’
22 “Pueblo de Israel, escuchen esto: como bien lo saben, Jesús de Nazaret fue un hombre confirmado por Dios ante ustedes por medio de los milagros poderosos y las señales que Dios hizo por medio de él.
Men of Israel, listen to what I am saying. Jesus of Nazareth, a man whose mission from God to you was proved by miracles, wonders, and signs, which God showed among you through him, as you know full well —
23 Dios, sabiendo de antemano lo que sucedería, siguió su plan y resolvió entregarlo en manos de ustedes. Por mano de hombres malvados, ustedes lo mataron, clavándolo en una cruz.
He, I say, in accordance with God’s definite plan and with his previous knowledge, was betrayed, and you, by the hands of lawless men, nailed him to a cross and put him to death.
24 Pero Dios lo levantó nuevamente a la vida, libertándolo de la carga de la muerte, porque la muerte no tuvo poder para tenerlo prisionero.
But God released him from the pangs of death and raised him to life, it being impossible for death to retain its hold upon him.
25 “David dice de él: ‘Vi al Señor siempre conmigo. No seré sacudido, porque él está aquí a mi lado.
Indeed it was to him that David was referring when he said — ‘I have had the Lord ever before my eyes, For he stands at my right hand, that I should not be disquieted.
26 ¡Con razón mi corazón está contento, y mi lengua grita sus alabanzas! Mi cuerpo descansa en esperanza.
Therefore my heart was cheered, and my tongue told its delight; Yes, even my body, too, will rest in hope;
27 Pues tú no dejarás mi alma entre los muertos ni permitirás que tu Santo se pudra en la tumba. (Hadēs g86)
For thou wilt not abandon my soul to the Place of Death, Nor surrender me, your holy one, to undergo corruption. (Hadēs g86)
28 Me has mostrado el camino de la vida y me llenarás con la alegría de tu presencia’.
Thou have shown me the path to life, Thou wilt fill me with gladness in your presence.’
29 “Mis hermanos y hermanas, permítanme decirles claramente que nuestro antepasado David murió y fue sepultado, y su tumba está aquí con nosotros hasta el día de hoy.
Brothers, I can speak to you the more confidently about the Patriarch David, because he is dead and buried, and his tomb is here among us to this very day.
30 Pero él era un profeta, y sabía que Dios había prometido bajo juramento poner en su trono a uno de sus descendientes.
David, then, Prophet as he was, knowing that God ‘had solemnly sworn to him to set one of his descendants upon his throne,’ looked into the future,
31 David vio lo que sucedería y habló sobre la resurrección de Cristo, porque Cristo no fue abandonado en su tumba, ni sufrió descomposición. (Hadēs g86)
and referred to the resurrection of the Christ when he said that ‘he had not been abandoned to the Place of Death, nor had his body undergone corruption.’ (Hadēs g86)
32 “Dios ha levantado a este Jesús de entre los muertos, y todos nosotros somos testigos de eso.
It was this Jesus, whom God raised to life; and of that we are ourselves all witnesses.
33 Ahora él ha sido exaltado a la diestra de Dios y ha recibido del Padre al Espíritu Santo, el cual prometió, y ha derramado lo que ustedes están viendo y oyendo.
And now that he has been exalted to the right hand of God, and has received from the Father the promised gift of the Holy Spirit, he has begun to pour out that gift, as you yourselves now see and hear.
34 Porque David no ascendió al cielo, pero dijo: ‘El Señor dijo a mi Señor; siéntate a mi diestra,
It was not David who went up into Heaven; for he himself says — ‘The Lord said to my master: “Sit on my right hand,
35 entretanto que pongo a tus enemigos por estrado de tus pies’.
Till I put your enemies as a footstool under thy feet.”’
36 Ahora esté todo Israel convencido de esto: ¡Dios ha puesto a este Jesús, a quien ustedes mataron en una cruz, como Señor y Mesías!”
So let the whole nation of Israel know beyond all doubt, that God has made him both Lord and Christ — this very Jesus whom you crucified.”
37 Cuando la gente escuchó esto, sintieron remordimiento de conciencia. Entonces le preguntaron a Pedro y a los apóstoles: “Hermanos, ¿qué debemos hacer?”
When the people heard this, they were conscience-smitten, and said to Peter and the rest of the Apostles: “Brothers, what can we do?”
38 “¡Arrepiéntanse!” les dijo Pedro. “Todos deben bautizarse en el nombre de Jesús para perdón de sus pecados, y recibirán el don del Espíritu Santo.
“Repent,” answered Peter, “and be baptized every one of you in the Faith of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins; and then you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.
39 Esta promesa es para ustedes, para sus hijos, y para todos los extranjeros. Para todo aquél a quien el Señor nuestro Dios llama”.
For the promise is for you and for your children, and also for all those now far away, who may be called by the Lord our God.”
40 Luego Pedro siguió hablando, dándoles más evidencias. Les advirtió: “Sálvense de esta generación perversa”.
With many other words Peter enforced his teaching, while the burden of his exhortations was — “Save yourselves from the perverse spirit of this age.”
41 Aquellos que aceptaban lo que él decía, eran bautizados, sumándose así cerca de tres mil personas al grupo de creyentes en ese día.
So those who accepted his teaching were baptized, and about three thousand people joined the disciples on that day alone.
42 Ellos se comprometieron a seguir lo que los apóstoles les habían enseñado, y a la hermandad de los creyentes, “partiendo el pan” y orando juntos.
They devoted themselves to the teaching of the Apostles and to the Common Life of the Church, to the Breaking of the Bread and to the Prayers.
43 Todos estaban asombrados, y a través de los apóstoles se realizaban muchos milagros y señales.
A deep impression was made upon every one, and many wonders and signs were done at the hands of the Apostles.
44 Y todos los creyentes estaban juntos y compartían todo lo que tenían.
All who became believers in Christ held everything for the common use;
45 Ellos vendían sus propiedades y pertenencias, compartiendo las ganancias con todos, en cuanto lo necesitaban.
they sold their property and their goods, and shared the proceeds among them all, according to their individual needs.
46 Día tras día siguieron reuniéndose en el Templo, y comían juntos en sus casas. Disfrutaban de las comidas con humildad y alegría. Alababan a Dios, y todos pensaban bien de ellos.
Every day they devoted themselves to meeting together in the Temple Courts, and to the Breaking of Bread at their homes, while they partook of their food in simple-hearted gladness, praising God, and winning the good-will of all the people.
47 Cada día el Señor agregaba al grupo aquellos que iban siendo salvos.
And the Lord daily added to their company those who were in the path of Salvation.
