Hechos 18

1 Entonces Pablo partió de Atenas y se fue a Corinto,

Now after these things Paul left Athens and went to Corinth.

2 y allí conoció a un judío llamado Aquila. Este era de Ponto, y acababa de llegar de Italia con su esposa Priscila porque Claudio había deportado a todos los judíos expulsados de Roma. Y Pablo fue a verlos,

And encountering a certain Jew named Aquila, a native of Pontus, who had recently come from Italy with his wife Priscilla (because Claudius had ordered all the Jews to depart from Rome), he joined them;

3 y como estaban en el mismo negocio de fabricar tiendas, se quedó con ellos.

and because he practiced the same trade, he stayed on with them and worked (their trade was tentmaker).

4 Y Pablo debatía en la sinagoga cada sábado, convenciendo tanto a griegos como a judíos.

Every Sabbath in the synagogue he would reason with both Jews and Greeks, trying to persuade them.

5 Cuando Silas y Timoteo llegaron desde Macedonia, Pablo sintió que necesitaba ser más directo en lo que predicaba, y les dijo a los judíos que Jesús era el Mesías.

But when Silas and Timothy came down from Macedonia, Paul was constrained by the Spirit, solemnly insisting to the Jews: Jesus is the Christ.

6 Y cuando ellos se le opusieron y lo maldijeron, sacudió su ropa y les dijo: “¡La sangre de ustedes está sobre sus propias cabezas! Soy libre de toda culpa, y desde ahora iré a los extranjeros”.

But since they kept contradicting and blaspheming, he shook his clothes and said to them: “Your blood be upon your own heads! I am clean. From now on I will go to the Gentiles.”

7 Entonces se marchó y se fue a quedar donde Tito Justo, quien adoraba a Dios y cuya casa estaba al lado de la sinagoga.

So he moved from there into the house of a man named Justus, a worshiper of God, whose house was next door to the synagogue.

8 Crispo, líder de la sinagoga, creía en el Señor y también toda su casa. Y muchas personas de Corinto que escucharon el mensaje se convirtieron en creyentes y fueron bautizados.

Then Crispus, the ruler of the synagogue, believed on the Lord with all his household; and as they were hearing, many of the Corinthians were believing and being baptized.

9 Entonces el Señor le dijo a Pablo en una visión de noche: “No tengas miedo. Habla, no te quedes callado

Now the Lord said to Paul by a vision at night: “Do not be afraid; rather speak and do not keep silent,

10 porque yo estoy contigo, y nadie te hará daño, pues muchas personas en esta ciudad son mías”.

because I am with you and no one will attack you to harm you, because I have many people in this city.”

11 Y Pablo se quedó allí durante dieciocho meses, enseñando la palabra de Dios.

So he stayed on for a year and six months, teaching the Word of God among them.

12 Sin embargo, cuando Galión se convirtió en el gobernante de Acaya, los judíos se unieron para atacar a Pablo y lo llevaron ante la corte.

Now while Gallio was proconsul of Achaia, the Jews with one accord rose up against Paul and brought him to the judgment seat,

13 “Este hombre está persuadiendo al pueblo para adorar a Dios ilegalmente”, declararon.

saying, “This fellow persuades the people to worship God contrary to the law.”

14 Pero cuando Pablo estaba a punto de defenderse, Galión les dijo a los judíos: “Si ustedes los judíos me trajeran cargos criminales o una ofensa legal grave, habría razón para que yo escuchara su caso.

But when Paul was about to open his mouth, Gallio said to the Jews: “If there really was some misdeed or wicked crime, O Jews, there would be reason for me to bear with you;

15 Pero como solo están discutiendo por las palabras y nombres y respecto a la propia ley de ustedes, entonces encárguense ustedes mismos. Yo no voy a gobernar respecto a tales asuntos”.

but since it is an issue over a word and names and your own law, see to it yourselves; because I refuse to be a judge of such matters.”

16 Después de esto Galión mandó a sacarlos de la corte.

And he drove them from the judgment seat.

17 Entonces la multitud tomó a Sóstenes, líder de la sinagoga, y lo golpearon justo a las afueras de la corte, pero a Galión no le preocupó esto en absoluto.

Then all the Greeks took Sosthenes, the ruler of the synagogue, and beat him in front of the judgment seat. But none of this was a delay to Gallio.

18 Pablo se quedó por un tiempo. Entonces dejó a los creyentes de allí y partió hacia Siria, llevando consigo a Priscila y Aquila. En Cencrea mandó a afeitar su cabeza, porque había hecho un voto.

Paul still remained there a good while, then took leave of the brothers and sailed for Syria, accompanied by Priscilla and Aquila (he had shaved his head in Cenchrea, because he had a vow).

19 Entonces llegaron a Éfeso, donde Pablo había dejado a los otros. Y se dirigió a la sinagoga para razonar con los judíos.

He came to Ephesus and left them there (after having entered the synagogue and reasoned with the Jews).

20 Y ellos le pidieron que se quedara por más tiempo, pero Pablo no aceptó.

When they asked him to stay a longer time with them, he did not consent;

21 Entonces se despidió y emprendió su viaje desde Éfeso, diciéndoles: “Regresaré y los veré nuevamente si es la voluntad de Dios”.

rather he took leave of them saying, “I must by all means keep this coming feast in Jerusalem; but I will return again to you, God willing.” Then he set sail from Ephesus.

22 Después de desembarcar en Cesarea fue a saludar a los miembros de iglesia, y entonces siguió hasta Antioquía.

When he had landed at Caesarea, and gone up and greeted the church [in Jerusalem], he returned to Antioch.

23 Y se quedó un tiempo allí y luego fue de ciudad en ciudad por la región de Galacia y Frigia, animando a los creyentes.

After spending some time there, he departed and went through the region of Galatia and Phrygia in order, strengthening all the disciples.

24 Durante este tiempo, un judío llamado Apolo, de Alejandría, llegó a Éfeso. Era un orador con mucho talento, que conocía bien las Escrituras.

Now a certain Jew named Apollos, a native of Alexandria, an eloquent man, mighty in the Scriptures, arrived in Ephesus.

25 Se le había enseñado el camino del Señor. Era apasionado por lo espiritual, y en su hablar y su enseñanza presentaba a Jesús de manera precisa, pero solo sabía acerca del bautismo de Juan.

This man had been instructed in the way of the Lord, and being fervent in the Spirit he was speaking and teaching accurately the things concerning Jesus, although he knew only the baptism of John.

26 Entonces comenzó a hablar de manera abierta en la sinagoga. De modo que cuando Priscila y Aquila lo escucharon, lo invitaron a unirse a ellos y le enseñaron con mayor amplitud el camino del Señor.

So he began to speak boldly in the synagogue. When Priscilla and Aquila heard him, they took him aside and explained to him the way of God more accurately.

27 Cuando decidió ir a Acaya, los hermanos lo animaron y le escribieron a los discípulos de allí, diciéndoles que lo recibieran. Y cuando llegó fue de gran ayuda a los que por gracia creían en Dios,

When he decided to go across into Achaia, the brothers encouraged him and wrote to the disciples to receive him; upon arriving he was a great help to those who had believed through the Grace;

28 porque podía refutar enérgicamente a los judíos en debates públicos, demostrando con las Escrituras que Jesús era el Mesías.

because he kept refuting the Jews vigorously, publicly, demonstrating Jesus to be the Christ, from the Scriptures.
