1 Samuel 3

1 El niño Samuel servía ante el Señor bajo la supervisión de Elí. En aquella época no se escuchaba un mensaje del Señor con frecuencia, y las visiones no eran comunes.

Now, the boy Samuel, was ministering unto Yahweh, before Eli, —and, the word of Yahweh, had become rare in those days, there was no well-known vision.

2 Una noche, Elí se había ido a acostar en su habitación. Sus ojos estaban tan débiles que no podía ver.

But it came to pass, at that time, when Eli was lying down in his place, his eyes, having begun to be dim, he could not see,

3 La lámpara de Dios aún no se había apagado, y Samuel estaba durmiendo en el Templo del Señor, donde estaba el Arca de Dios.

though, the lamp of God, was not yet to be put out, and, Samuel, was lying down in the temple of Yahweh, where was the ark of God,

4 Entonces el Señor lo llamó: “¡Samuel!” Samuel entonces respondió: “Aquí estoy”.

that Yahweh called unto Samuel, and he said—Behold me!

5 Entonces corrió hacia Elí y le dijo: “Aquí estoy ¿Me llamabas?”. “Yo no te he llamado”, respondió Elí. “Vuelve a la cama”. Así que Samuel volvió a la cama.

So he ran unto Eli and said—Behold me! for thou calledst me. And he said—I called not, return—Its down. So he went, and lie down.

6 Entonces el Señor volvió a llamar: “¡Samuel!”. Y Samuel se levantó, fue a ver a Elí y le dijo: “Aquí estoy ¿Me llamabas?”. “Yo no te he llamado, hijo mío”, respondió Elí. “Vuelve a la cama”.

And again Yahweh called once there—Samuel! Then rose Samuel, and went unto Eli, and said—Behold me! for thou calledst me. And he said—I called not, my son, return—lie down.

7 (Samuel aún no había llegado a conocer al Señor y no había recibido ningún mensaje de él).

Now, Samuel, as yet knew not Yahweh, —nor, as yet, had been revealed unto him, the word of Yahweh.

8 El Señor volvió a llamar por tercera vez: “¡Samuel!”. Éste se levantó, fue a ver a Elí y le dijo: “Aquí estoy ¿Me llamabas?”. Entonces Elí se dio cuenta de que era el Señor quien llamaba al muchacho.

And again Yahweh called—Samuel! a third time. Then he arose, and went unto Eli, and said—Behold me! for thou calledst me. Then did Eli perceive, that, Yahweh, was calling the boy.

9 Así que Elí le dijo a Samuel: “Vuelve a la cama, y si escuchas el llamado, dile: ‘Habla, Señor, porque tu siervo te escucha’”. Así que Samuel volvió a su cama.

So Eli said to Samuel—Go, lie down, and it shall be, if he call unto thee, that thou shalt say—Speak, Yahweh, for thy servant is listening. And Samuel went, and lay down in his place.

10 El Señor llegó y se quedó allí, llamando igual que antes: “¡Samuel! Samuel!” Entonces Samuel respondió: “Habla, porque tu siervo te escucha”.

Then came Yahweh, and stood, and called as time after time—Samuel! Samuel! And Samuel said, Speak, for thy servant is listening.

11 El Señor le dijo entonces a Samuel: “Presta atención, porque voy a hacer algo en Israel que sorprenderá a todos los que lo escuchen.

And Yahweh said unto Samuel, Lo! I am doing a thing, in Israel, —at which both ears of everyone that heareth it shall tingle.

12 Es entonces cuando cumpliré todo lo que he dicho, de principio a fin, contra Elí y su familia.

In that day, will I confirm against Eli, all that I have spoken against his house, —beginning and finishing.

13 Le dije que juzgaré a su familia para siempre por los pecados que él conoce, porque sus hijos blasfemaron contra Dios y él no trató de detenerlos.

Therefore do I tell him, that I am about to judge his house unto times age-abiding, for the iniquity which he knoweth, in that his sons are cursing God, and he hath not rebuked them.

14 Por eso le juré a Elí y a su familia: ‘La culpa de Elí y de sus descendientes no se quitará nunca con sacrificios ni con ofrendas’”.

And therefore have I sworn, respecting the house of Eli, —that the iniquity of the house of Eli shall receive no propitiatory-covering, by sacrifice or by present, unto times age-abiding.

15 Samuel permaneció en la cama hasta la mañana. Luego se levantó y abrió las puertas del Templo del Señor como de costumbre. Tenía miedo de contarle a Elí la visión.

And Samuel lay until the morning, and rose early in the morning, and opened the doors of the house of Yahweh, —but, Samuel, feared to tell the appearing, unto Eli.

16 Pero Elí lo llamó y le dijo: “Samuel, hijo mío”. “Aquí estoy”, respondió Samuel.

So Eli called Samuel, and said—Samuel! my son. And he said—Behold me!

17 “¿Qué te ha dicho?” preguntó Elí. “No me lo ocultes. Que Dios te castigue muy severamente si me ocultas algo de lo que te dijo”.

And he said—What is the word, which he spake unto thee? I pray thee, do not hide it from me. So, let God do to thee, and, so, let him add, if thou hide from me a word, out of anything which he hath spoken unto thee.

18 Así que Samuel le contó todo y no le ocultó nada. “Es el Señor”, respondió Elí. “Que haga lo que le parezca bien”.

So Samuel told him all the words, and hid nothing from him. And he said, Yahweh, he is; what is good in his own eyes, let him do.

19 Samuel siguió creciendo. El Señor estaba con él y se aseguraba de que todo lo que decía era fiel.

And Samuel grew, —and, Yahweh, proved to he with him, and let none of all his words fall to the ground.

20 Todos en todo Israel, desde Dan hasta Beerseba, reconocían que Samuel era un profeta del Señor digno de confianza.

So all Israel, from Dan even to Beersheba, came to know, —that Samuel had become confirmed as a prophet unto Yahweh.

21 El Señor siguió apareciendo en Silo, porque allí se revelaba a Samuel y le entregaba sus mensajes,

Thus did Yahweh again appear in Shiloh, —for Yahweh had revealed himself unto Samuel in Shiloh, in the word of Yahweh.
