1 Reyes 18
1 Algún tiempo después, durante el tercer año, un mensaje del Señor llegó a Elías: “Ve y preséntate ante Acab, y enviaré lluvia sobre la tierra”.
And the days are many, and the word of Jehovah hath been unto Elijah in the third year, saying, 'Go, appear unto Ahab, and I give rain on the face of the ground;'
2 Así que Elías fue a presentarse ante Acab. Mientras tanto, el hambre se había agravado en Samaria.
and Elijah goeth to appear unto Ahab. And the famine is severe in Samaria,
3 Acab convocó a Abdías, el administrador de su palacio (Abdías era un creyente muy sincero en el Señor.
and Ahab calleth unto Obadiah, who [is] over the house — and Obadiah hath been fearing Jehovah greatly,
4 Mientras Jezabel estaba ocupada matando a los profetas del Señor, Abdías había tomado a cien profetas y los había escondido, cincuenta en cada una de dos cuevas, y les había proporcionado comida y agua).
and it cometh to pass, in Jezebel's cutting off the prophets of Jehovah, that Obadiah taketh a hundred prophets, and hideth them, fifty men in a cave, and hath sustained them with bread and water —
5 Acab le dijo a Abdías: “Recorre el país y revisa todos los manantiales y valles. Tal vez podamos encontrar algo de hierba para mantener vivos a los caballos y a las mulas, y así no perderemos a ninguno de los animales”.
and Ahab saith unto Obadiah, 'Go through the land, unto all fountains of waters, and unto all the brooks, if so be we find hay, and keep alive horse and mule, and do not cut off any of the cattle.'
6 Así que se repartieron la tierra. Acab fue en una dirección, y Abdías en la otra.
And they apportion to themselves the land, to pass over into it; Ahab hath gone in one way by himself, and Obadiah hath gone in another way by himself;
7 Mientras Abdías seguía su camino, Elías salió a su encuentro. Abdías lo reconoció, se inclinó hasta el suelo y dijo: “¿Eres tú, mi señor Elías?”
and Obadiah [is] in the way, and lo, Elijah — to meet him; and he discerneth him, and falleth on his face, and saith, 'Art thou he — my lord Elijah?'
8 “Soy yo”, respondió Elías. “Ve y dile a tu señor: ‘Elías está aquí’”.
And he saith to him, 'I [am]; go, say to thy lord, Lo, Elijah.'
9 “¿Cómo he pecado para que me entregues a mí, tu siervo, a Acab para que me mate?
And he saith, 'What have I sinned, that thou art giving thy servant into the hand of Ahab — to put me to death?
10 Vive el Señor, tu Dios, que no hay nación ni reino donde mi amo no haya enviado a alguien a buscarte. Cuando una nación o reino dijo que no estabas, él les hizo jurar que no podían encontrarte.
Jehovah thy God liveth, if there is a nation and kingdom whither my lord hath not sent to seek thee; and they said, He is not, then he caused the kingdom and the nation to swear, that it doth not find thee;
11 Y ahora me dices que vaya a mi amo y le anuncie: ‘Elías está aquí’.
and now, thou art saying, Go, say to thy lord, Lo, Elijah;
12 No tengo idea de adónde te llevará el Espíritu del Señor después de que te deje. Si voy y se lo digo a Acab y luego no te encuentra, me va a matar, aunque yo, tu siervo, he adorado al Señor desde que era joven.
and it hath been, I go from thee, and the Spirit of Jehovah doth lift thee up, whither I know not, and I have come to declare to Ahab, and he doth not find thee, and he hath slain me; and thy servant is fearing Jehovah from my youth.
13 ¿No oíste, mi señor, lo que hice cuando Jezabel se ocupaba de matar a los profetas del Señor? Escondí a cien de los profetas del Señor, cincuenta en cada una de las dos cuevas, y les di comida y agua.
'Hath it not been declared to my lord that which I have done in Jezebel's slaying the prophets of Jehovah, that I hide of the prophets of Jehovah a hundred men, fifty by fifty in a cave, and sustained them with bread and water?
14 Y ahora me dice que vaya a mi amo y le anuncie: ‘Elías está aquí’. Me va a matar”.
and now thou art saying, Go, say to my lord, Lo, Elijah — and he hath slain me!'
15 Elías respondió: “Vive el Señor Todopoderoso, a quien sirvo, que hoy me presentaré definitivamente ante Acab”.
And Elijah saith, 'Jehovah of Hosts liveth, before whom I have stood, surely to-day I appear unto him.'
16 Así que Abdías fue a reunirse con Acab y le contó, y Acab fue a reunirse con Elías.
And Obadiah goeth to meet Ahab, and declareth [it] to him, and Ahab goeth to meet Elijah,
17 Cuando Acab vio a Elías, le dijo: “¿Eres tú el que está causando problemas a Israel?”
and it cometh to pass at Ahab's seeing Elijah, that Ahab saith unto him, 'Art thou he — the troubler of Israel?'
18 “No estoy causando problemas a Israel”, respondió Elías. “¡Eres tú y la familia de tu padre! Han rechazado los mandatos del Señor y están adorando a los baales.
And he saith, 'I have not troubled Israel, but thou and the house of thy father, in your forsaking the commands of Jehovah, and thou goest after the Baalim;
19 Ahora convoca a todo Israel y reúnete conmigo en el monte Carmelo, junto con los cuatrocientos cincuenta profetas de Baal y los cuatrocientos profetas de Asera, que son apoyados por Jezabel”.
and now, send, gather unto me all Israel, unto the mount of Carmel, and the prophets of Baal four hundred and fifty, and the prophets of the shrine, four hundred — eating at the table of Jezebel.'
20 Así que Acab convocó a todo Israel y reunió también a los profetas en el monte Carmelo.
And Ahab sendeth among all the sons of Israel, and gathereth the prophets unto the mount of Carmel;
21 Elías se acercó al pueblo y les preguntó: “¿Hasta cuándo van a andar cojeando, dudando entre dos creencias opuestas? Si el Señor es Dios, entonces síganlo. Pero si Baal es Dios, entonces síganlo”. Pero la gente no respondió.
and Elijah cometh nigh unto all the people, and saith, 'Till when are ye leaping on the two branches? — if Jehovah [is] God, go after Him; and if Baal, go after him;' and the people have not answered him a word.
22 Entonces Elías les dijo: “Yo soy el único que queda de los profetas del Señor -sólo yo-, pero Baal tiene cuatrocientos cincuenta profetas.
And Elijah saith unto the people, 'I — I have been left a prophet of Jehovah — by myself; and the prophets of Baal [are] four hundred and fifty men;
23 Proporciónanos dos bueyes. Que los profetas de Baal escojan el que quieran, y que lo corten en pedazos y lo pongan sobre la leña. Pero no le prendan fuego. Yo prepararé el otro buey y lo pondré sobre la leña, pero no le prenderé fuego.
and let them give to us two bullocks, and they choose for themselves the one bullock, and cut it in pieces, and place [it] on the wood, and place no fire; and I — I prepare the other bullock, and have put [it] on the wood, and fire I do not place; —
24 Entonces tú invocarás a tu dios por su nombre, y yo invocaré al Señor por su nombre. El dios que responde enviando fuego es Dios”. Entonces todo el pueblo dijo: “Estamos de acuerdo con lo que dices”.
and ye have called in the name of your god, and I — I call in the name of Jehovah, and it hath been, the god who answereth by fire — He [is] the God.' And all the people answer and say, 'Good [is] the word.'
25 Elías dijo a los profetas de Baal: “Elijan uno de los bueyes y prepárenlo primero, porque son numerosos. Invoquen a su dios por su nombre, pero no enciendan el fuego”.
And Elijah saith to the prophets of Baal, 'Choose for you the one bullock, and prepare first, for ye [are] the multitude, and call ye in the name of your god, and place no fire.'
26 Así que tomaron el buey provisto y lo prepararon. Luego invocaron a Baal por su nombre desde la mañana hasta el mediodía. “¡Baal, respóndenos!”, suplicaron. Pero no se oyó ninguna voz, ni nadie respondió. Cojeaban en una danza alrededor del altar que habían hecho.
And they take the bullock that [one] gave to them, and prepare, and call in the name of Baal from the morning even till the noon, saying, 'O Baal, answer us!' and there is no voice, and there is none answering; and they leap on the altar that one had made.
27 Al mediodía, Elías comenzó a burlarse de ellos. “¡Griten muy fuerte!”, dijo. “¿No se supone que es un dios? Quizá esté meditando, o haya ido al baño, o esté de viaje. Tal vez esté dormido y haya que despertarlo”.
And it cometh to pass, at noon, that Elijah playeth on them, and saith, 'Call with a loud voice, for he [is] a god, for he is meditating, or pursuing, or on a journey; it may be he is asleep, an doth awake.'
28 Entonces gritaron aún más fuerte y se cortaron con espadas y lanzas hasta sangrar. Esta era su forma habitual de adorar.
And they call with a loud voice, and cut themselves, according to their ordinance, with swords and with spears, till a flowing of blood [is] on them;
29 Llegó el mediodía y siguieron con sus maníacas “profecías” hasta la hora del sacrificio vespertino. Pero no se oía ninguna voz, nadie respondía, nadie escuchaba.
and it cometh to pass, at the passing by of the noon, that they feign themselves prophets till the going up of the present, and there is no voice, and there is none answering, and there is none attending.
30 Luego Elías les dijo a todos: “Vengan hacia mí”. Se acercaron a él, y reparó el altar del Señor que había sido derribado.
And Elijah saith to all the people, 'Come nigh unto me;' and all the people come nigh unto him, and he repaireth the altar of Jehovah that is broken down;
31 Elías tomó doce piedras que representaban las tribus de los hijos de Jacob. (Jacob fue el que recibió el mensaje del Señor que decía: “Israel será tu nombre”).
and Elijah taketh twelve stones, according to the number of the tribes of the sons of Jacob, unto whom the word of Jehovah was, saying, 'Israel is thy name;'
32 Con las piedras construyó un altar en nombre del Señor. Cavó una zanja a su alrededor en la que cabían dos seahs de semillas.
and he buildeth with the stones an altar, in the name of Jehovah, and maketh a trench, as about the space of two measures of seed, round about the altar.
33 Colocó la madera en su lugar, cortó el buey en pedazos y lo puso sobre la madera. Luego les dijo: “Llenen de agua cuatro tinajas grandes y viértanla sobre la ofrenda y la madera”.
And he arrangeth the wood, and cutteth in pieces the bullock, and placeth [it] on the wood, and saith, 'Fill ye four pitchers of water, and pour on the burnt-offering, and on the wood;
34 “Vuelvan a hacerlo”, les dijo. Así lo hicieron. “Háganlo por tercera vez”, les dijo. Y lo hicieron por tercera vez.
and he saith, 'Do [it] a second time;' and they do [it] a second time; and he saith, 'Do [it] a third time;' and they do [it] a third time;
35 El agua corrió por todo el altar y llenó la zanja.
and the water goeth round about the altar, and also, the trench he hath filled with water.
36 A la hora del sacrificio vespertino, el profeta Elías se acercó al altar y oró: “Señor, Dios de Abraham, de Isaac y de Israel, demuestra hoy que eres Dios en Israel, que yo soy tu siervo y que todo lo que he hecho ha sido por orden tuya.
And it cometh to pass, at the going up of the [evening -]present, that Elijah the prophet cometh nigh and saith, 'Jehovah, God of Abraham, Isaac, and Israel, to-day let it be known that Thou [art] God in Israel, and I Thy servant, that by Thy word I have done the whole of these things;
37 ¡Respóndeme, Señor! Respóndeme, para que este pueblo sepa que tú, Señor, eres Dios, y que los estás devolviendo a ti”.
answer me, O Jehovah, answer me, and this people doth know that Thou [art] Jehovah God; and Thou hast turned their heart backward.'
38 Entonces el fuego del Señor bajó y quemó el sacrificio, la madera, las piedras y la tierra; incluso lamió el agua de la zanja.
And there falleth a fire of Jehovah, and consumeth the burnt-offering, and the wood, and the stones, and the dust, and the water that [is] in the trench it hath licked up.
39 Al ver esto, todo el pueblo se postró en el suelo y gritó: “¡El Señor es Dios! El Señor es Dios”.
And all the people see, and fall on their faces, and say, 'Jehovah, He [is] the God, Jehovah, He [is] the God.'
40 Entonces Elías les ordenó: “Agarren a los profetas de Baal. No dejen escapar a ninguno”. Los agarraron, y Elías los bajó al valle de Cisón y los mató allí.
And Elijah saith to them, 'Catch ye the prophets of Baal; let not a man escape of them;' and they catch them, and Elijah bringeth them down unto the stream Kishon, and doth slaughter them there.
41 Elías le dijo a Acab: “Ve a comer y a beber, porque oigo que viene una lluvia fuerte”.
And Elijah saith to Ahab, 'Go up, eat and drink, because of the sound of the noise of the shower.'
42 Así que Acab fue a comer y a beber, pero Elías fue a la cima del Carmelo. Allí se inclinó hacia el suelo, poniendo su rostro entre las rodillas.
And Ahab goeth up to eat, and to drink, and Elijah hath gone up unto the top of Carmel, and he stretcheth himself out on the earth, and he placeth his face between his knees,
43 “Ve y mira hacia el mar”, le dijo a su siervo. El hombre fue y miró. “Allí no hay nada”, dijo. Siete veces le dijo Elías: “Ve y mira otra vez”.
and saith unto his young man, 'Go up, I pray thee, look attentively the way of the sea;' and he goeth up and looketh attentively, and saith, 'There is nothing;' and he saith, 'Turn back,' seven times.
44 La séptima vez el siervo regresó y dijo: “He visto una pequeña nube del tamaño de la mano de un hombre que subía del mar”. Entonces Elías le dijo: “Corre a ver a Acab y dile: ‘Prepara tu carro y baja antes de que la lluvia te detenga’”.
And it cometh to pass, at the seventh, that he saith, 'Lo, a little thickness as the palm of a man is coming up out of the sea.' And he saith, 'Go up, say unto Ahab, 'Bind — and go down, and the shower doth not restrain thee.'
45 Rápidamente el cielo se oscureció con nubes, sopló el viento, comenzó a caer una fuerte lluvia y Acab bajó a caballo hasta Jezrel.
And it cometh to pass, in the meantime, that the heavens have become black — thick clouds and wind — and the shower is great; and Ahab rideth, and goeth to Jezreel,
46 El Señor le dio su poder a Elías: se metió el manto en el cinturón y corrió delante de Acab hasta Jezrel.
and the hand of Jehovah hath been on Elijah, and he girdeth up his loins, and runneth before Ahab, till thine entering Jezreel.
