1 Reyes 17
1 Elías el tisbita, (de Tisbe en Galaad), le dijo a Acab: “¡Vive el Señor, el Dios de Israel, al que sirvo, que en los años venideros no habrá rocío ni lluvia si yo no lo digo!”
And Eliiah the Tishbite one of the inhabitats of Gilead sayde vnto Ahab, As the Lord God of Israel liueth, before whom I stand, there shall be neither dewe nor rayne these yeeres, but according to my worde.
2 Entonces el Señor le dijo a Elías:
And the worde of the Lord came vnto him, saying,
3 “Sal de aquí y vete al este. Escóndete en el valle del arroyo de Querit, donde se une con el Jordán.
Go hence, and turne thee Eastwarde, and hide thy selfe in the riuer Cherith, that is ouer against Iorden,
4 Podrás beber del arroyo, y he ordenado que los cuervos te lleven comida allí”.
And thou shalt drinke of the riuer: and I haue comanded the rauens to feede thee there.
5 Así que Elías hizo lo que el Señor le dijo. Fue al valle del arroyo de Querit, donde se une con el Jordán, y se quedó allí.
So he went and did according vnto the word of the Lord: for he went, and remained by the riuer Cherith that is ouer against Iorden.
6 Los cuervos le llevaban pan y carne por la mañana y por la tarde, y él bebía del arroyo.
And the rauens brought him bread and flesh in the morning, and bread and flesh in the euening, and he dranke of the riuer.
7 Un tiempo después, el arroyo se secó porque no había llovido en la tierra.
And after a while the riuer dryed vp, because there fell no rayne vpon the earth.
8 Entonces el Señor le dijo a Elías:
And the worde of the Lord came vnto him, saying,
9 “Vete de aquí y vete a Sarepta, cerca de Sidón, y quédate allí. He dado instrucciones a una viuda de allí para que te proporcione comida”.
Vp, and get thee to Zarephath, which is in Zidon, and remaine there: beholde, I haue commanded a widow there to sustaine thee.
10 Así que partió hacia Sarepta. Cuando llegó a la entrada de la ciudad, vio a una mujer, una viuda, que recogía palos. La llamó y le preguntó: “¿Podrías traerme un poco de agua en un vaso para que pueda beber?”.
So he arose, and went to Zarephath: and when he came to the gate of the citie, beholde, the widowe was there gathering stickes: and he called her, and sayde, Bring me, I pray thee, a litle water in a vessel, that I may drinke.
11 Mientras ella iba a buscarla, él la llamó y le dijo: “Ah, y por favor, tráeme un pedazo de pan”.
And as she was going to fet it, he called to her, and sayde, Bring me, I pray thee, a morsell of bread in thine hand.
12 Ella le contestó: “Vive el Señor, tu Dios, que no tengo pan, sólo me queda un puñado de harina en una tinaja y un poco de aceite de oliva en una jarra. Ahora mismo estoy recogiendo unos cuantos palos para ir a cocinar lo que queda para mí y para mi hijo y así poder comerlo, y luego moriremos”.
And shee sayde, As the Lord thy God liueth, I haue not a cake, but euen an handfull of meale in a barrel, and a litle oyle in a cruse: and behold, I am gathering a fewe stickes for to go in, and dresse it for me and my sonne, that we may eate it, and dye.
13 Elías le dijo: “No tengas miedo. Vete a casa y haz lo que has dicho. Pero primero hazme una pequeña hogaza de pan de lo que tienes y tráemela. Luego prepara algo para ti y para tu hijo.
And Eliiah said vnto her, Feare not, come, do as thou hast sayd, but make me thereof a litle cake first of all, and bring it vnto mee, and afterward make for thee, and thy sonne.
14 Porque esto es lo que dice el Señor, el Dios de Israel: ‘La vasija de harina no se vaciará y la jarra de aceite de oliva no se agotará hasta el día en que el Señor envíe la lluvia para regar la tierra’”.
For thus saith the Lord God of Israel, The meale in the barrel shall not be wasted, neither shall the oyle in the cruse be diminished, vnto the time that the Lord send rayne vpon the earth.
15 Ella fue e hizo lo que Elías le había dicho, y Elías, la viuda y su familia pudieron comer durante muchos días.
So she went, and did as Eliiah sayd, and she did eate: so did he and her house for a certaine time.
16 La vasija de harina no se vació y la jarra de aceite de oliva no se agotó, tal como el Señor había dicho por medio de Elías.
The barrell of the meale wasted not, nor the oyle was spent out of the cruse, according to the worde of the Lord, which he spake by the hand of Eliiah.
17 Más tarde, el hijo de la mujer cayó enfermo. (Ella era la dueña de la casa). Fue de mal en peor, y finalmente murió.
And after these things, the sonne of the wife of the house fell sicke, and his sicknesse was so sore, that there was no breath left in him.
18 “¿Qué me estás haciendo, hombre de Dios?”, le preguntó la mujer a Elías. “¿Has venido a recordarme mis pecados y a provocar la muerte de mi hijo?”
And she said vnto Eliiah, What haue I to do with thee, O thou man of God? art thou come vnto me to call my sinne to remembrance, and to slay my sonne?
19 “Dame a tu hijo”, respondió Elías. Lo cogió de los brazos de la mujer, lo subió a la habitación donde se alojaba y lo acostó en su cama.
And he said vnto her, Giue me thy sonne. and he tooke him out of her bosome, and caryed him vp into a chamber, where he abode, and laid him vpon his owne bed.
20 Entonces clamó al Señor, diciendo: “Señor, Dios mío, ¿por qué has permitido que le suceda esto a esta viuda que me ha abierto su casa, esta terrible tragedia de hacer morir a su hijo?”
Then he called vnto the Lord, and sayde, O Lord my God, hast thou punished also this widowe, with whome I soiourne, by killing her sonne?
21 Se tendió sobre el muchacho tres veces y clamó al Señor: “¡Señor Dios mío, por favor, haz que la vida de este muchacho vuelva a él!”
And he stretched himselfe vpon the childe three times, and called vnto the Lord, and saide, O Lord my God, I pray thee, let this childes soule come into him againe.
22 El Señor respondió al clamor de Elías. La vida del muchacho volvió a él, y vivió.
Then the Lord heard the voyce of Eliiah, and the soule of the child came into him againe, and he reuiued.
23 Elías tomó al niño, lo bajó de la habitación a la casa y se lo entregó a su madre. “Mira, tu hijo está vivo”, le dijo Elías.
And Eliiah tooke the childe, and brought him downe out of the chamber into the house, and deliuered him vnto his mother, and Eliiah sayd, Behold, thy sonne liueth.
24 “Ahora estoy convencida de que eres un hombre de Dios, y de que lo que el Señor habla a través de ti es la verdad”, respondió la mujer.
And the woman saide vnto Eliiah, Now I knowe that thou art a man of God, and that the worde of the Lord in thy mouth is true.
