Proverbios 1
1 Proverbios de Salomón, hijo de David, rey de Israel:
Proverbs of Solomon, son of David, king of Israel:
2 para aprender sabiduría e instrucción, para entender las palabras sensatas;
For knowing wisdom and instruction, For understanding sayings of intelligence,
3 para instruirse en la sabiduría, en la justicia, equidad y rectitud;
For receiving the instruction of wisdom, Righteousness, judgment, and uprightness,
4 para enseñar discernimiento a los sencillos, y a los jóvenes conocimientos y discreción.
For giving to simple ones—prudence, To a youth—knowledge and discretion.
5 Escuche el sabio y acrecerá en saber. El hombre inteligente adquirirá maestría
(The wise hear and increase learning, And the intelligent obtain counsels.)
6 en entender las parábolas y su sentido misterioso, las sentencias de los sabios y sus enigmas.
For understanding a proverb and its sweetness, Words of the wise and their acute sayings.
7 El temor de Yahvé es el principio de la sabiduría; solo los insensatos desprecian la sabiduría y la doctrina.
Fear of YHWH [is the] beginning of knowledge, Fools have despised wisdom and instruction!
8 Escucha, hijo mío, la instrucción de tu padre; y no deseches las enseñanzas de tu madre.
Hear, my son, the instruction of your father, And do not leave the law of your mother,
9 Serán una corona de gracia para tu cabeza, un collar para tu cuello.
For they [are] a graceful wreath to your head, And chains to your neck.
10 Hijo mío, si los malvados quieren seducirte, no les des oído;
My son, if sinners entice you, do not be willing.
11 si te dicen: “Ven con nosotros; pongamos asechanzas a la vida ajena, tendamos por mero antojo celadas al inocente;
If they say, “Come with us, we lay wait for blood, We watch secretly for the innocent without cause,
We swallow them as Sheol—alive, And whole—as those going down [to] the pit, (Sheol h7585)
13 y hallaremos preciosas riquezas, henchiremos de despojos nuestras casas.
We find every precious substance, We fill our houses [with] spoil,
14 Echa tu suerte con nosotros; sea una sola la bolsa de todos nosotros.”
You cast your lot among us, One purse is—to all of us.”
15 Hijo mío, no sigas sus caminos; aparta tu pie de sus senderos;
My son! Do not go in the way with them, Withhold your foot from their path,
16 porque sus pies corren al mal, van presurosos a derramar sangre.
For their feet run to evil, And they hurry to shed blood.
17 En vano se tiende la red ante los ojos de los pájaros;
Surely in vain is the net spread out before the eyes of any bird.
18 mas ellos arman asechanzas a su propia sangre, traman maquinaciones contra su propia vida.
And they lay wait for their own blood, They watch secretly for their own lives.
19 Tal es la senda de los codiciosos de ganancia, quita la vida a los propios dueños.
So [are] the paths of every gainer of dishonest gain, It takes the life of its owners.
20 La sabiduría clama en las calles, en las plazas levanta su voz;
Wisdom cries aloud in an out-place, She gives forth her voice in broad places,
21 llama donde hay más concurso de gente, en las puertas de la ciudad expone su doctrina:
She calls at the head of the multitudes, In the openings of the gates, In the city she says her sayings:
22 ¿Hasta cuándo, oh necios, amaréis la necedad? ¿Hasta cuándo los burladores se deleitarán en burlas, y odiarán los fatuos la sabiduría?
“Until when, you simple, do you love simplicity? And have scorners desired their scorning? And do fools hate knowledge?
23 Volveos para (oír) mi instrucción, y derramaré sobre vosotros mi espíritu, quiero enseñaros mis palabras.
Turn back at my reproof, behold, I pour forth my spirit to you, I make known my words with you.
24 Os convidé y no respondisteis, tendí mis manos, y nadie prestó atención;
Because I have called, and you refuse, I stretched out my hand, and none is attending,
25 rechazasteis todos mis consejos, y ningún caso hicisteis de mis amonestaciones.
And you slight all my counsel, And you have not desired my reproof.
26 Por eso también yo me reiré de vuestra calamidad, y me burlaré cuando os sobrevenga el espanto,
I also laugh in your calamity, I deride when your fear comes,
27 cuando os sobrevenga cual huracán el terror, cuando caiga sobre vosotros, como torbellino, la calamidad, y os acometan la angustia y la tribulación.
When your fear comes as destruction, And your calamity comes as a windstorm, When adversity and distress come on you.
28 Entonces me llamarán, y no les responderé; madrugarán a buscarme, y no me hallarán,
Then they call me, and I do not answer, They seek me earnestly, and do not find me.
29 por cuanto aborrecieron la instrucción y abandonaron el temor de Dios,
Because that they have hated knowledge, And have not chosen the fear of YHWH.
30 no amando mi consejo, y desdeñando mis exhortaciones.
They have not consented to my counsel, They have despised all my reproof,
31 Comerán los frutos de su conducta, y se saciarán de sus propios consejos.
And they eat of the fruit of their way, And they are filled from their own counsels.
32 Porque la indocilidad lleva a los necios a la muerte, y la prosperidad de los insensatos es causa de su ruina.
For the turning of the simple slays them, And the security of the foolish destroys them.
33 Mas el que me escucha, habitará seguro, y vivirá tranquilo sin temer el mal.
And whoever is listening to me dwells confidently, And [is] quiet from fear of evil!”
