Proverbios 30
1 Palabras de Agur, hijo de Jaqué, de Masá. Palabras que este varón dijo a Itiel, a Itiel y a Ucal:
The words of Agur, son of Jakeh, [even] the oracle, —The utterance of the man, for Ithiel, for Ithiel and Ucal.
2 Soy más torpe que hombre alguno, no tengo la inteligencia de otros.
Surely, more brutish, am, I, than any man, nor doth, the understanding of a son of earth, pertain to me;
3 No he aprendido la sabiduría, y no conozco la ciencia del Santo.
Neither have I learned wisdom, nor, the knowledge of the Holy Ones, can I acquire.
4 ¿Quién jamás subió al cielo y descendió? ¿Quién encerró los vientos en sus puños? ¿Quién envolvió las aguas en un manto? ¿Quién dio estabilidad a todos los confines de la tierra? ¿Cuál es su nombre, y qué nombre tiene su hijo? ¿Lo sabes acaso?
Who hath ascended the heavens and then descended? Who hath gathered the wind into his two hands? Who hath wrapped up the waters in a mantle? Who hath set up all the ends of the earth? What is his name and what the name of his son, when thou knowest?
5 Toda palabra de Dios es acrisolada, es escudo de los que buscan en Él su amparo.
Every saying of God is refined, A shield, is, he, to them who seek refuge in him.
6 No añadas nada a sus palabras; no sea que Él te reprenda y seas hallado falsario.
Do not add unto his words, lest he convict thee, and thou be found false.
7 Dos cosas te pido, no me las niegues antes que muera:
Two things, have I asked of thee, withhold them not from me, ere yet I die:
8 Aparta de mí la vanidad y la mentira, y no me des ni pobreza ni riquezas; dame solamente el pan que necesito,
Vanity and falsehood, remove far from me, Neither poverty nor riches, give me, Feed me with the food appointed me:
9 no sea que harto yo reniegue (de Ti) y diga: “¿Quién es Yahvé?” o que, empobrecido, me ponga a robar y blasfemar del nombre de mi Dios.
Lest I be full, and deny, and say—Who is Yahweh? or lest I be impoverished and steal, and do violence to the Name of my God.
10 No difames al siervo ante su señor, no sea que te maldiga, y tú tengas que pagarlo.
Do not slander a servant to his master, lest he revile thee, and thou be found guilty.
11 Ralea hay que maldice a su padre, y no bendice a su madre.
A generation! Its father, it revileth, and, its mother, it doth not bless.
12 Hay gente que se tiene por limpia, sin lavarse de sus inmundicias.
A generation! Pure in its own eyes, yet, from its filth, hath it not been bathed,
13 Otros hay que miran con ojos altivos, con párpados levantados en alto.
A generation! How lofty are its eyes, and its eyelashes uplifted.
14 Y hay también hombres cuyos dientes son espadas, y sus muelas cuchillos, para devorar a los pobres de la tierra y a los desvalidos de entre los hombres.
A generation! Swords, are its teeth, and, knives, its incisors, —to devour the humbled out of the earth, and the needy, from among men.
15 La sanguijuela tiene dos hijas: “¡Dame, dame!” Tres cosas hay insaciables, y también una cuarta, que jamás dicen: “¡Basta!”:
The vampire, hath two daughters, Give! Give! Three, there are will not be satisfied, four, have not said, Enough!
16 el scheol, el seno estéril, la tierra que nunca se harta de agua, y el fuego que jamás dice: “¡Basta!” (Sheol h7585)
Hades, and barrenness, —A land not satisfied with water, and fire, that saith not, Enough! (Sheol h7585)
17 Ojos que escarnecen al padre, y no miran con respeto a la madre; sáquenlos los cuervos del torrente y los aguiluchos los coman.
The eye that mocketh a father, and despiseth to obey a mother, the ravens of the valley shall pick it out, and the young of the eagle shall eat it.
18 Tres cosas hay demasiado maravillosas para mí, y una cuarta que no entiendo:
Three, things there are, too difficult for me, yea, four, which I do not understand:
19 el rastro del águila en el aire, el rastro de la culebra sobre la peña, el rastro de la nave en medio del mar, y el rastro del hombre en la doncella.
The way of an eagle in the heavens, the way of a serpent on the rock, —the way of a ship in the heart of the sea, and the way of a man with a maid.
20 Tal es también el proceder de la mujer adúltera; come, se limpia la boca, y dice: “No he hecho cosa mala.”
So, is the way of a woman committing adultery, —she eateth, and wipeth her mouth, and saith, I have done no iniquity!
21 Bajo tres cosas tiembla la tierra, y también bajo una cuarta que no puede soportar:
Under three things, a land is stirred, yea, under four, she cannot bear up:
22 bajo un siervo que llega a reinar, bajo un necio que tiene mucha comida,
Under a servant, when he reigneth, and a base man, when he is surfeited with food;
23 bajo una aborrecida que halla marido, y bajo la esclava que hereda a su señora.
Under a hateful woman, when she is married, and a handmaid when she driveth out her mistress.
24 Hay sobre la tierra cuatro animales pequeños que son más sabios que los sabios:
Four, things there are, the small of the earth, —yet, they, are wiser than the wise:
25 las hormigas, pueblo sin fuerza, que al tiempo de la mies se prepara su provisión;
The ants, a people, not strong, —yet prepare they, in summer, their food;
26 el tejón, animal endeble, que entre las peñas coloca su madriguera;
The conies, a people of, no power, yet set they, among the crags, their house;
27 las langostas, que sin tener rey salen todas bien ordenadas;
King, is there none, to, the locusts, —yet go forth in swarms, do they all;
28 el lagarto que puedes asir con la mano, y, sin embargo, se aloja en los palacios de los reyes.
The lizard, with hands, reneweth its hold, —yet, the same, is in the palaces of the king.
29 Tres seres hay de paso gallardo, y también un cuarto que anda con gallardía:
Three, things there are which step along well, ye, four, which excel in going:
30 el león, el más valiente de los animales, que no retrocede ante nadie;
The lion, hero among beasts, which turneth aside from the face of no one;
31 el (gallo) que anda erguido, el macho cabrío, y el rey al frente de su ejército.
The greyhound, or the he-goat, —and a king, having a band of soldiers with him.
32 Si te has engreído neciamente, o si pensaste hacer mal; mano a la boca.
If thou hast acted basely by lifting thyself up, —if thou hast plotted evil, [put thy] hand to [thy] mouth!
33 Comprimiendo la leche se hace la manteca; comprimiendo la nariz, sale sangre; y comprimiendo la ira, se producen contiendas.
Surely, the pressing of milk, bringeth forth curd, and, the pressing of the nose, bringeth forth blood, and, the pressing of wrath, bringeth forth strife.
