Proverbios 26
1 Como la nieve en el verano, y la lluvia durante la siega, así cuadran al necio los honores.
As snow in summer, and as rain in harvest, So honor is not seemly for a fool.
2 Como el pájaro que escapa y como la golondrina en vuelo, así es la maldición injusta: no se cumple.
As the sparrow in her wandering, as the swallow in her flying, So the curse that is causeless alighteth not.
3 El látigo para el caballo, el cabestro para el asno, y la vara para las espaldas del insensato.
A whip for the horse, a bridle for the ass, And a rod for the back of fools.
4 No respondas al necio según su necedad, para que no te hagas semejante a él.
Answer not a fool according to his folly, Lest thou also be like unto him.
5 Responde al necio como su necesidad se merece, para que no se considere como sabio.
Answer a fool according to his folly, Lest he be wise in his own conceit.
6 Quien despacha los negocios por medio de un tonto, es como el que se corta los pies y padece daño.
He that sendeth a message by the hand of a fool Cutteth off [his own] feet, [and] drinketh in damage.
7 Como al cojo le bambolean las piernas, así es el proverbio en la boca del necio.
The legs of the lame hang loose; So is a parable in the mouth of fools.
8 Dar honra a un necio es como ligar la piedra a la honda.
As one that bindeth a stone in a sling, So is he that giveth honor to a fool.
9 Una espina que se clava en la mano de un borracho, eso es el proverbio en la boca del fatuo.
[As] a thorn that goeth up into the hand of a drunkard, So is a parable in the mouth of fools.
10 Como arquero que hiere a todos, así es el que toma a sueldo a necios y vagabundos.
[As] an archer that woundeth all, So is he that hireth a fool and he that hireth them that pass by.
11 Como perro que vuelve sobre su vómito, así es el necio que repite sus necedades.
As a dog that returneth to his vomit, [So is] a fool that repeateth his folly.
12 Si ves a un hombre que se tiene por sabio, confía más en un loco que en él.
Seest thou a man wise in his own conceit? There is more hope of a fool than of him.
13 Dice el perezoso: “Hay un león en el camino, en las calles está un león.”
The sluggard saith, There is a lion in the way; A lion is in the streets.
14 La puerta gira sobre su quicio, y sobre su cama el haragán.
[As] the door turneth upon its hinges, So doth the sluggard upon his bed.
15 El perezoso mete su mano en el plato, pero le da fatiga el llevarla a la boca.
The sluggard burieth his hand in the dish; It wearieth him to bring it again to his mouth.
16 Se imagina el perezoso ser más sabio que siete que saben dar respuestas prudentes.
The sluggard is wiser in his own conceit Than seven men that can render a reason.
17 Agarra un perro por las orejas quien, al pasar, se mete en riñas de otros.
He that passeth by, [and] vexeth himself with strife belonging not to him, Is [like] one that taketh a dog by the ears.
18 Como el loco que arroja llamas, saetas y muerte,
As a madman who casteth firebrands, Arrows, and death,
19 así es el que engaña a su prójimo, y le dice luego: “Solo lo hice por broma.”
So is the man that deceiveth his neighbor, And saith, Am not I in sport?
20 Faltando la leña, se apaga el fuego; así también, si no hay chismoso, cesa la discordia.
For lack of wood the fire goeth out; And where there is no whisperer, contention ceaseth.
21 Como el carbón para las brasas y la leña para el fuego, así es, el rencilloso para atizar contiendas.
[As] coals are to hot embers, and wood to fire, So is a contentious man to inflame strife.
22 Las palabras del chismoso son como golosinas, mas penetran hasta lo más hondo de las entrañas.
The words of a whisperer are as dainty morsels, And they go down into the innermost parts.
23 Como barniz de plata sobre vasija de barro, así son los labios lisonjeros y un corazón ruin.
Fervent lips and a wicked heart Are [like] an earthen vessel overlaid with silver dross.
24 El que odia disfraza sus labios, pero en su interior maquina engaños.
He that hateth dissembleth with his lips; But he layeth up deceit within him:
25 Cuando habla en tono suavísimo, no te fíes de él; pues en su corazón abriga siete abominaciones.
When he speaketh fair, believe him not; For there are seven abominations in his heart:
26 Esconde su odio con disimulo; mas su falsía será descubierta en pública asamblea.
Though [his] hatred cover itself with guile, His wickedness shall be openly showed before the assembly.
27 El que cava una fosa, cae en ella, y la piedra se echa encima del que la hace rodar.
Whoso diggeth a pit shall fall therein; And he that rolleth a stone, it shall return upon him.
28 La lengua mentirosa odia a quienes hirió, y la boca lisonjera es causa de la ruina.
A lying tongue hateth those whom it hath wounded; And a flattering mouth worketh ruin.
