Proverbios 18
1 Va tras sus propios deseos el que se separa (del amigo); todo su empeño consiste en pleitear.
A man seeketh, for satisfaction, going his own way, through all safe counsel, he breaketh.
2 Al necio no le gusta ser sensato, se deja llevar por los gustos de su corazón.
A dullard, delighteth not, in understanding, in nothing save the exposing of his own heart.
3 Con la impiedad llega también la ignominia, y con la ignominia la deshonra.
When the lawless man cometh in, then cometh also contempt, and, with shame, reproach.
4 Aguas profundas son las palabras de la boca del hombre, torrente caudaloso la fuente de la sabiduría.
Deep waters, are the words of a man’s mouth, —a bubbling brook, the well-spring of wisdom.
5 No está bien tener miramientos con el malvado, para torcer el derecho contra un justo.
To prefer a lawless man, is not good, thrusting away the righteous, in judgment.
6 Los labios del necio se meten en contiendas, y su boca provoca litigios.
the lips of a dullard, enter into contention, and his mouth, for blows, crieth out.
7 La boca del necio es su ruina, y sus labios son un lazo para su alma.
The mouth of a dullard, is his ruin, and, his lips, are a snare to his soul.
8 Las palabras del chismoso son como dulces bocados, penetran hasta lo más hondo de las entrañas.
the words of a tattler, are dainties, they, therefore go down into the chambers of the inner man.
9 Quien es remiso en sus labores, hermano es del que disipa sus bienes.
Surely he that is slothful in his work, brother, is he to a master at laying waste.
10 Ciudadela fuerte es el nombre de Yahvé, en ella se refugia el justo y está seguro.
A tower of strength, is the Name of Yahweh, thereinto, runneth the righteous, and is safe.
11 Las riquezas son para el rico una ciudad fuerte, en su fantasía le parecen una alta muralla.
The substance of a rich man, is his strong city, and like a high wall, in his imagination.
12 Antes de la caída se engríe el corazón humano, y a la gloria precede la humillación.
Before grievous injury, a man’s heart is haughty, and, before honour, is humility.
13 Quien responde antes de escuchar, muestra su insensatez y confusión.
He that answereth before he heareth, a folly, it is to him, and, a reproach.
14 El espíritu sostiene al hombre en la flaqueza pero al espíritu abatido ¿quién lo sostendrá?
The spirit of a man, sustaineth his sickness, but, a dejected spirit, who can bear it?
15 El corazón prudente adquiere sabiduría, y el oído de los sabios busca doctrina.
the heart of the intelligent, acquireth knowledge, yea, the ear of the wise, seeketh knowledge.
16 Los presentes allanan al hombre el camino, y lo llevan a la presencia de los magnates.
The gift of a man, maketh room for him, and, before great men, setteth him down.
17 Inocente parece el que primero expone su causa, pero viene su adversario y lo examina.
Righteous is he that is first in his own cause, then cometh his neighbour, and thoroughly searcheth him.
18 La suerte pone fin a las contiendas, y decide entre los poderosos.
The lot causeth, contentions, to cease, and, the mighty, it parteth.
19 Un hermano ofendido (resiste) más que una fortaleza, y sus querellas son como los cerrojos de una ciudadela.
A brother estranged, [is worse] than a strong city, —and, contentions, are as the bar of a citadel.
20 De los frutos de su boca sacia el hombre su vientre; se harta del producto de sus labios.
Of the fruit of a man’s mouth, shall his inmost mind be satisfied, with the product of his lips, shall he be satisfied.
21 La muerte y la vida están en poder de la lengua; cual sea su uso, tales serán los frutos que se comen.
Death and life, are in the power of the tongue, and, its friends, shall eat its fruits.
22 El que halla una esposa halla cosa buena, es un favor que le viene de Yahvé.
Who hath found a wife, hath found a blessing, and hath obtained favour from Yahweh.
23 Habla el pobre suplicando, mas el rico responde con aspereza.
Supplications, doth the poor man utter, but, the rich, answereth fiercely.
24 Amigos hay que solo sirven para perdición, pero hay también amigos más adictos que un hermano.
A man having [many] friends, shall come to ruin, but there is a loving one, who sticketh closer than a brother.
