Proverbios 16
1 Del hombre es preparar el corazón, mas la respuesta de la lengua viene de Yahvé.
Human beings may make plans in their minds, but the final decision is the Lord's.
2 Todos los caminos parecen limpios a los ojos del hombre, pero es Dios quien pesa los espíritus.
People think that whatever they do is fine, but the Lord looks at their intentions.
3 Encomienda a Yahvé tus planes, y tendrán éxito tus proyectos.
Trust whatever you do to the Lord, and your plans will be successful.
4 Todo lo ha creado Yahvé para su fin, aun al impío para el día aciago.
The Lord has a purpose in everything he does, even the wicked for the day of trouble.
5 Todo altivo de corazón es abominación para Yahvé, será castigado indefectiblemente.
The Lord hates the arrogant. You can be certain of this: the wicked won't go unpunished.
6 Con misericordia y fidelidad se expía la culpa, y con el temor de Dios (el hombre) se aparta del mal.
Sin is forgiven through trustworthy love and faithfulness; by honoring the Lord people are saved from evil.
7 Cuando los caminos de un hombre son agradables a Yahvé, Este reconcilia con él a sus enemigos.
When the way that people live pleases the Lord, he makes even their enemies be at peace with them.
8 Mejor poco con justicia, que grandes ganancias con injusticia.
Better to have just a little and be honest than to have a lot and be dishonest.
9 El corazón del hombre proyecta sus caminos, pero Yahvé dirige sus pasos.
You can plan in your mind what to do, but the Lord will guide you.
10 Los labios del rey pronuncian oráculos; no peca su boca cuando dicta sentencia.
The king is inspired in what he says; he is not unreliable in his decisions.
11 Balanza y platillos justos son de Dios, y obra suya son todas las pesas de la bolsa.
Accurate scales and balances are important to the Lord. He has determined all the weights in the bag.
12 Aborrecen los reyes a los malhechores, pues la justicia es el apoyo del trono.
It's a terrible thing for a king to do evil, for his throne is based on doing right.
13 Placen a los reyes los labios justos, y les agradan los que hablan con rectitud.
People who tell the truth please kings; they love those who say what is right.
14 La ira del rey anuncio es de muerte; pero el varón sabio la aplaca.
An angry king can put you to death. If you're wise you'll try and calm him down.
15 El semblante alegre del rey significa vida, y su favor es como nube de lluvia primaveral.
If the king is smiling, you'll live; his blessing is like the clouds that bring spring rain.
16 Adquirir sabiduría vale más que el oro, y mejor que la plata es poseer la inteligencia.
Far better to get wisdom than gold; far better to choose knowledge than silver.
17 La senda de los justos es huir del mal; guarda su alma el que guarda sus pasos.
The highway of the good leads away from evil. If you watch where you're going you'll save your life.
18 La soberbia precede a la caída, y la altivez de espíritu a la ruina.
Pride leads to destruction; and an arrogant spirit leads to a fall.
19 Mejor ser humilde con los humildes, que repartir despojos con los soberbios.
Better to have a humble spirit and live with the poor than to share plunder with the proud.
20 El que está atento a la palabra, saca provecho, y el que confía en Yahvé es dichoso.
If you pay attention to wise instruction you will do well; you'll be happy if you trust in the Lord.
21 El sabio de corazón es llamado prudente; y la dulzura en el hablar aumenta los frutos de la enseñanza.
If you think wisely you'll be called perceptive; if you speak pleasantly you'll be persuasive.
22 Fuente de vida es la sabiduría para quien la posee pero el castigo del necio es su necedad.
If you have good sense it will be a fountain of life to you, but stupid people are punished by their stupidity.
23 El corazón del sabio es maestro de su boca, en sus labios crece la doctrina.
A wise mind makes sure to say sensible things; the words spoken are persuasive.
24 Panal de miel son las palabras amables; delicia del alma y medicina de los huesos.
Kind words are like a honeycomb—they taste sweet and are healthy for the body.
25 Camino hay que al hombre le parece recto, pero en su remate está la muerte.
There's a way that seems to be right, but in the end it's the way of death.
26 El que se afana, para sí se afana; a esto le estimula su boca.
A good appetite helps workers—hunger encourages them.
27 El hombre perverso se cava la desventura; sobre sus labios hay como llamas de fuego.
Worthless people plot evil and their words burn like fire.
28 El hombre depravado provoca contiendas, y el chismoso siembra discordia entre los amigos.
Quarrelsome people cause conflict, and a gossip comes between the closest friends.
29 El inicuo halaga a su prójimo y así lo lleva por malos caminos.
Violent people lure their friends, and lead them in a direction that's not good for them.
30 Cuando uno guiña los ojos maquina maldades, y cuando se muerde los labios, las lleva a cabo.
People who give you a sly wink are plotting bad things; they purse their lips and make evil happen.
31 Corona de gloria es la canicie, se la halla en el camino de la justicia.
Gray hair is a glorious crown; it's achieved by living right.
32 El hombre sosegado es superior al valiente, y el que es señor de sí vale más que el conquistador de una ciudad.
Better to be slow to anger than to be powerful, better to have self-control than to conquer a town.
33 En el regazo se echan las suertes, pero de Yahvé depende toda decisión.
The lot is thrown into the lap, but the Lord makes every decision.
