Números 17
1 Habló Yahvé a Moisés, diciendo:
Yahweh spoke to Moses. He said,
2 “Habla a los hijos de Israel, y toma de cada casa paterna, de cada príncipe de su casa paterna una vara, o sea, doce varas, y escribe el nombre de cada uno en su vara.
“Speak to the people of Israel and get staffs from them, one for each ancestral tribe, twelve staffs. Write each man's name on his staff.
3 Sobre la vara de Leví escribe el nombre de Aarón, pues habrá una sola vara por cada cabeza de las casas paternas.
You must write Aaron's name on Levi's staff. There must be one staff for each leader from his ancestors' tribe.
4 Las depositarás en el Tabernáculo de la Reunión, ante el Testimonio, donde Yo suelo entrevistarme con vosotros.
You must place the staffs in the tent of meeting in front of the covenant decrees, where I meet with you.
5 Y sucederá que florecerá la vara de aquel a quien Yo escogiere; así me libraré de las murmuraciones de los hijos de Israel que murmuran contra vosotros.”
It will happen that the staff of the man whom I choose will bud. I will cause the complaints from the people of Israel to stop, which they are speaking against you.”
6 Habló, pues, Moisés a los hijos de Israel y todos sus príncipes le dieron las varas, cada príncipe una vara, conforme a sus casas paternas, o sea, doce varas, y entre ellas la vara de Aarón.
So Moses spoke to the people of Israel. All the tribal leaders gave him staffs, one staff from each leader, selected from each of the ancestral tribes, twelve staffs in all. Aaron's staff was among them.
7 Moisés puso las varas delante de Yahvé en el Tabernáculo del Testimonio,
Then Moses deposited the staffs before Yahweh in the tent of the covenant decrees.
8 y he aquí cuando al día siguiente Moisés entró en el Tabernáculo del Testimonio, florecía la vara de Aarón de la casa de Leví; había echado yemas, abierto flores y producido almendras.
The next day Moses went into the tent of the covenant decrees and, behold, Aaron's staff for the tribe of Levi had budded. It grew buds and produced blossoms and ripe almonds!
9 Y sacando Moisés todas las varas de la presencia de Yahvé las mostró a todos los hijos de Israel, los cuales las miraron; y tomó cada uno su vara.
Moses brought out all the staffs from before Yahweh to all the people of Israel, and each man took his staff.
10 Dijo entonces Yahvé a Moisés: “Vuelve la vara de Aarón al Testimonio, para que se conserve como advertencia para los hijos rebeldes y cesen así sus murmuraciones contra Mí, y no mueran.”
Yahweh said to Moses, “Put Aaron's staff in front of the covenant decrees. Keep it as a sign of guilt against the people who rebelled so that you may end complaints against me, or they will die.”
11 Moisés lo hizo así. Como le había mandado Yahvé, así hizo.
Moses did just as Yahweh had commanded him.
12 Y hablaron los hijos de Israel a Moisés, diciendo: “He aquí que perecemos; estamos perdidos, todos perdidos.
The people of Israel spoke to Moses and said, “We will die here. We will all perish!
13 ¡Cualquiera que se acerca a la Morada de Yahvé, muere! ¿Acaso hemos de ser aniquilados todos?”
Everyone who comes up, who approaches Yahweh's tabernacle, will die. Must we all perish?”
