1 Muerto Josué, los hijos de Israel consultaron a Yahvé, diciendo: “¿Quién de nosotros marchará primero contra el cananeo para combatirlo?”
And it came to pass after the death of Joshua that the children of Israel asked Jehovah, saying, Which of us shall go up against the Canaanites first, to fight against them?
2 Respondió Yahvé: “Judá; he aquí que he entregado la tierra en sus manos.”
And Jehovah said, Judah shall go up: behold, I have delivered the land into his hand.
3 Dijo entonces Judá a Simeón, su hermano: “Sube conmigo a la tierra de mi herencia, para hacer guerra contra los cananeos, y también yo iré contigo a la tierra de tu herencia.” Y Simeón le acompañó.
And Judah said to Simeon his brother, Come up with me into my lot, and let us fight against the Canaanites, and I likewise will go with thee into thy lot; and Simeon went with him.
4 Subió Judá, y Yahvé dio en sus manos a los cananeos y fereceos, de los cuales derrotaron en Bésec diez mil hombres.
And Judah went up; and Jehovah delivered the Canaanites and the Perizzites into their hand, and they smote them in Bezek, ten thousand men.
5 Encontraron en Bésec a Adonibésec, le atacaron y derrotaron a los cananeos y a los fereceos.
And they found Adoni-Bezek in Bezek, and fought against him, and they smote the Canaanites and the Perizzites.
6 Huyó Adonibésec; mas le persiguieron y después de haberle tomado preso le cortaron los pulgares de sus manos y de sus pies.
And Adoni-Bezek fled, and they pursued after him, and caught him, and cut off his thumbs and his great toes.
7 Entonces dijo Adonibésec: “Setenta reyes que tenían cortados los pulgares de sus manos y de sus pies, recogían las migajas debajo de mi mesa. Como yo hice, así me paga Dios.” Y le llevaron a Jerusalén, donde murió.
And Adoni-Bezek said, Seventy kings, with their thumbs and their great toes cut off, gleaned under my table: as I have done, so God has requited me. And they brought him to Jerusalem, and there he died.
8 Pues los hijos de Judá atacaron a Jerusalén y habiéndola tomado la pasaron a filo de espada y pusieron fuego a la ciudad.
And the children of Judah fought against Jerusalem, and took it, and smote it with the edge of the sword, and set the city on fire.
9 Después descendieron los hijos de Judá a combatir a los cananeos que habitaban en la montaña, en el Négueb y en la Sefelá.
And afterwards the children of Judah went down to fight against the Canaanites, that dwelt in the hill-country, and in the south, and in the lowland.
10 Y marchó Judá contra los cananeos que habitaban en Hebrón, cuyo nombre antiguo era Kiryat- Arbá, y derrotaron a Sesai, Ahimán y Talmai.
And Judah went against the Canaanites that dwelt in Hebron — the name of Hebron before was Kirjath-Arba; and they slew Sheshai and Ahiman and Talmai.
11 De allí marchó contra los habitantes de Dabir, cuyo nombre antiguo era Kiryatséfer.
And from there he went against the inhabitants of Debir; now the name of Debir before was Kirjath-sepher.
12 Entonces dijo Caleb: “Al que derrote a Kiryatséfer y la tome, le daré por mujer mi hija Acsá.”
And Caleb said, He that smites Kirjath-sepher and takes it, to him will I give Achsah my daughter as wife.
13 Y la tomó Otoniel, hijo de Kenas, hermano menor de Caleb; y este le dio por mujer su hija Acsá.
And Othniel the son of Kenaz, Caleb's younger brother, took it; and he gave him Achsah his daughter as wife.
14 Mientras ella se iba (con su marido), este la instigó a que pidiera a su padre un campo; y como ella se bajó del asno, le preguntó Caleb: “¿Qué te pasa?”
And it came to pass as she came, that she urged him to ask of her father the field; and she sprang down from the ass. And Caleb said to her, What wouldest thou?
15 Respondió ella: “Dame una bendición; ya que me has dado tierra de secano, dame también fuentes de agua.” Y Caleb le dio fuentes en las regiones superiores y en las inferiores.
And she said to him, Give me a blessing; for thou hast given me a southern land; give me also springs of water. And Caleb gave her the upper springs and the lower springs.
16 Los hijos del Cineo, cuñado de Moisés, subieron juntamente con los hijos de Judá, desde la ciudad de las Palmeras, al desierto de Judá, que está al sur, en Arad; y vinieron a habitar con el pueblo.
And the children of the Kenite, Moses' father-in-law, had gone up out of the city of palm-trees with the children of Judah into the wilderness of Judah, which is in the south of Arad; and they went and dwelt with the people.
17 Después acompañó Judá a su hermano Simeón y derrotaron a los cananeos que habitaban en Sefat; ejecutaron allí el anatema y fue llamada aquella ciudad Horma.
And Judah went with Simeon his brother, and they slew the Canaanites that inhabited Zephath, and utterly destroyed it; and they called the name of the city Hormah.
18 Judá tomó también a Gaza con su territorio, a Ascalón con su territorio y a Acarón con su territorio.
And Judah took Gazah and its border, and Ashkelon and its border, and Ekron and its border.
19 Yahvé estuvo con Judá de modo que pudo apoderarse de la montaña, pero no pudo expulsar a los habitantes de los valles, porque tenían carros de hierro.
And Jehovah was with Judah; and he took possession of the hill-country, for he did not dispossess the inhabitants of the valley, because they had chariots of iron.
20 A Caleb se le dio Hebrón, como le había prometido Moisés; y Caleb expulsó de allí a los tres hijos de Enac.
And they gave to Caleb Hebron, as Moses had said; and he dispossessed from thence the three sons of Anak.
21 Los hijos de Benjamín no expulsaron a los jebuseos que habitaban en Jerusalén; y así habitan los jebuseos con los hijos de Benjamín en Jerusalén hasta el día de hoy.
And the children of Benjamin did not dispossess the Jebusites, the inhabitants of Jerusalem; but the Jebusites dwell with the children of Benjamin in Jerusalem to this day.
22 Los de la casa de José, por su parte, subieron contra Betel, y Yahvé estuvo con ellos.
And the house of Joseph, they also went up against Bethel; and Jehovah was with them.
23 Mientras exploraban Betel, cuyo nombre antiguo era Luz,
And the house of Joseph sent to search out Bethel; now the name of the city before was Luz.
24 vieron los centinelas a un hombre que salía de la ciudad, y le dijeron: “Muéstranos, te rogamos, por dónde se puede entrar en la ciudad, y usaremos contigo de misericordia.”
And the guards saw a man come forth out of the city, and said unto him, Shew us, we pray thee, how [we] may enter into the city, and we will shew thee kindness.
25 Él les mostró por donde se podía entrar en la ciudad, y ellos pasaron la ciudad a filo de espada; mas dejaron salir a aquel hombre con toda su familia,
And he shewed them how to enter into the city. And they smote the city with the edge of the sword; but they let go the man and all his family.
26 el cual fue a tierra de los heteos, donde edificó una ciudad, y la llamó Luz. Este es su nombre hasta el día de hoy.
And the man went into the land of the Hittites, and built a city, and called its name Luz, which is its name to this day.
27 Manasés no desposeyó a (los habitantes de) Betseán con sus aldeas, ni a los de Taanac con sus aldeas, ni a los habitantes de Dor con sus aldeas, ni a los habitantes de Ibleam con sus aldeas, ni a los habitantes de Megiddó con sus aldeas; por lo cual los cananeos lograron mantenerse en aquel territorio.
And Manasseh did not dispossess Beth-shean and its dependent villages, nor Taanach and its dependent villages, nor the inhabitants of Dor and its dependent villages, nor the inhabitants of Ibleam and its dependent villages, nor the inhabitants of Megiddo and its dependent villages; and the Canaanites would dwell in that land.
28 Cuando Israel cobró fuerza, hizo tributarios a los cananeos, pero no los expulsó por completo.
And it came to pass when Israel became strong, that they made the Canaanites tributary; but they did not utterly dispossess them.
29 Efraím no expulsó a los cananeos que habitaban en Guécer; y los cananeos siguieron viviendo en medio de ellos en Guécer.
And Ephraim did not dispossess the Canaanites that dwelt in Gezer; but the Canaanites dwelt among them in Gezer.
30 Zabulón no expulsó a los habitantes de Ketrón, ni a los habitantes de Nahalol; y los cananeos siguieron viviendo en medio de ellos pero vinieron a ser tributarios.
Zebulun did not dispossess the inhabitants of Kitron, nor the inhabitants of Nahalol; but the Canaanites dwelt among them, and became tributaries.
31 Aser no expulsó a los habitantes de Acó ni a los habitantes de Sidón, Ahalab, Aczib, Helbá, Afee y Rohob;
Asher did not dispossess the inhabitants of Accho, nor the inhabitants of Zidon, nor Ahlab, nor Achzib, nor Helbah, nor Aphik, nor Rehob;
32 sino que los hijos de Aser vivieron en medio de los cananeos, habitantes del país, pues, no los expulsaron.
and the Asherites dwelt among the Canaanites, the inhabitants of the land; for they did not dispossess them.
33 Neftalí no expulsó a los habitantes de Betsemes, ni a los habitantes de Betanat, sino que habitó en medio de los cananeos, habitantes del país; pero los habitantes de Betsemes y de Betanat vinieron a ser tributarios suyos.
Naphtali did not dispossess the inhabitants of Beth-shemesh, nor the inhabitants of Beth-anath; and he dwelt among the Canaanites, the inhabitants of the land, but the inhabitants of Beth-shemesh and of Beth-anath became tributaries to them.
34 Los amorreos estrecharon a los hijos de Dan en las montañas; pues no les permitían bajar a los valles.
And the Amorites forced the children of Dan into the hill-country, for they would not suffer them to come down to the valley.
35 Lograron los amorreos habitar en Har-Heres, en Ayalón, y en Saalbim; mas cuando la mano de la casa de José pesó sobre ellos, vinieron a ser tributarios.
And the Amorites would dwell on mount Heres, in Ajalon and in Shaalbim; but the hand of the house of Joseph prevailed, and they became tributaries.
36 El territorio de los amorreos se extendía desde la subida de Acrabim y desde Selá para arriba.
And the border of the Amorites was from the ascent of Akrabbim, from the rock, and upwards.
