Jueces 3
1 Estos son los pueblos que Yahvé dejó para probar por medio de ellos a Israel, a cuantos no tenían experiencia de las guerras de los cananeos
Now these are the nations which Jehovah left, to prove Israel by them, even as many of Israel as had not known all the wars of Canaan;
2 —con el único fin de instruir a las generaciones de los hijos de Israel y enseñarles la guerra, por lo menos a aquellos que antes no la conocían—,
only that the generations of the children of Israel might know, to teach them war, at the least such as before knew nothing of it:
3 los cinco príncipes de los filisteos, todos los cananeos, los sidonios y los heveos que habitaban en el monte Líbano, desde el monte Baalhermón hasta la entrada de Hamat.
namely, the five lords of the Philistines, and all the Canaanites, and the Sidonians, and the Hivites who lived on Mount Lebanon, from Mount Baal Hermon to Lebo Hamath.
4 Servían estos para probar por medio de ellos a Israel, a fin de saber si obedecería los mandamientos que Yahvé había prescrito a sus padres por boca de Moisés.
They were left, to prove Israel by them, to know whether they would listen to the commandments of Jehovah, which he commanded their fathers by the hand of Moses.
5 Así, los hijos de Israel habitaban entre los cananeos, los heteos, los amorreos, los fereceos, los heveos y los jebuseos.
The children of Israel lived among the Canaanites, the Hethites, and the Amorites, and the Perizzites, and the Hivites, and the Jebusites:
6 Y tomaron las hijas de ellos por mujeres, dando sus hijas a los hijos de ellos y sirviendo a sus dioses.
and they took their daughters to be their wives, and gave their own daughters to their sons and served their gods.
7 Los hijos de Israel hicieron lo que era malo a los ojos de Yahvé y, olvidándose de Yahvé, su Dios, sirvieron a los Baales y a las Ascheras.
The children of Israel did that which was evil in the sight of Jehovah, and forgot Jehovah their God, and served the Baals and the Asheroth.
8 Y se airó Yahvé contra Israel, y los vendió en manos de Cusan Rasataim, rey de Mesopotamia; y sirvieron los hijos de Israel a Cusan Rasataim ocho años.
Therefore the anger of Jehovah was kindled against Israel, and he sold them into the hand of Cushan Rishathaim king of Aram Naharaim; and the children of Israel served Cushan Rishathaim eight years.
9 Entonces clamaron los hijos de Israel a Yahvé, y Yahvé suscitó un libertador para los hijos de Israel que los libró: Otoniel, hijo de Kenas, hermano menor de Caleb.
When the children of Israel cried to Jehovah, Jehovah raised up a savior to the children of Israel, who saved them, even Othniel the son of Kenaz, Caleb's younger brother; and he obeyed him.
10 Vino sobre él el espíritu de Yahvé y juzgó a Israel. Y salió a la guerra, y Yahvé entregó en sus manos a Cusan Rasataim, rey de Aram, y su mano pesó sobre Cusan Rasataim.
The Spirit of Jehovah came on him, and he judged Israel; and he went out to war, and Jehovah delivered Cushan Rishathaim king of Mesopotamia into his hand: and his hand prevailed against Cushan Rishathaim.
11 Así tuvo el país descanso durante cuarenta años. Y murió Otoniel, hijo de Kenas.
The land had rest forty years. And Othniel the son of Kenaz died.
12 Volvieron los hijos de Israel a hacer lo que era malo a los ojos de Yahvé, y Yahvé hizo prevalecer a Eglón, rey de Moab, contra Israel, por cuanto hacían lo que era malo a los ojos de Yahvé.
The children of Israel again did that which was evil in the sight of Jehovah: and Jehovah strengthened Eglon the king of Moab against Israel, because they had done that which was evil in the sight of Jehovah.
13 Congregando consigo a los hijos de Amón y a Amalec, Eglón se puso en marcha, derrotó a Israel y se apoderó de la Ciudad de las Palmeras.
He gathered to him the people of Ammon and Amalek; and he went and struck Israel, and they possessed the city of palm trees.
14 Y los hijos de Israel sirvieron a Eglón, rey de Moab, diez y ocho años.
The children of Israel served Eglon the king of Moab eighteen years.
15 Clamaron entonces los hijos de Israel a Yahvé, y Yahvé les suscitó un libertador: Aod, hijo de Gerá, benjaminita, hombre zurdo. Cuando los hijos de Israel enviaron por mano de él un presente a Eglón, rey de Moab,
But when the children of Israel cried to Jehovah, Jehovah raised them up a savior, Ehud the son of Gera, the Benjamite, a man left-handed. The children of Israel sent tribute by him to Eglon the king of Moab.
16 Aod se hizo una daga de dos filos, de un palmo de largo, que se ciñó debajo de su ropa sobre el muslo derecho;
Ehud made him a sword which had two edges, eighteen inches in length; and he girded it under his clothing on his right thigh.
17 y así llevó el presente a Eglón, rey de Moab, que era un hombre muy gordo.
He offered the tribute to Eglon king of Moab: now Eglon was a very fat man.
18 Terminada la entrega del presente, despidió Aod la gente que había traído el presente,
When he had made an end of offering the tribute, he sent away the people who bore the tribute.
19 y volviéndose desde Pesilim, cerca de Gálgala, dijo: “Oh rey, tengo un mensaje secreto para ti”. El rey dijo: “¡Silencio!”, y salieron de su presencia todos los que con el estaban.
But he himself turned back from the quarries that were by Gilgal, and said, "I have a secret message for you, O king." The king said, "Keep silence." All who stood by him went out from him.
20 Entonces Aod se acercó al rey que estaba sentado en la habitación de verano que tenía reservada para sí solo. Y le dijo Aod: “Tengo para ti un mensaje de parte de Dios.” Se levantó con esto Eglón de la silla,
Ehud came to him; and he was sitting by himself alone in the cool upper room. Ehud said, "I have a message from God to you, O king." He arose out of his seat.
21 y Aod, alargando su mano izquierda, sacó la daga que llevaba sobre su muslo derecho, y la clavó en el vientre de Eglón.
And it happened as he rose up that Ehud put forth his left hand and took the sword from his right thigh and thrust it into his belly.
22 Entró incluso el mango tras la hoja, y se cerró la grosura sobre la hoja, de modo que no pudo retirar la daga del vientre, del cual salieron los excrementos.
And the handle also went in after the blade; and the fat closed on the blade, for he didn't draw the sword out of his belly; and it came out behind.
23 Se escapó Aod por la galería, cerrando tras sí la puerta de la habitación y echando el cerrojo.
Then Ehud went forth into the porch, and shut the doors of the upper room on him, and locked them.
24 Salido ya él, llegaron los siervos del rey y miraron, y he aquí que la puerta de la habitación estaba cerrada con cerrojo, por lo cual dijeron: “Sin duda se cubre los pies en la cámara de verano.”
Now when he was gone out, his servants came; and they saw, and look, the doors of the upper room were locked; and they said, "Surely he is covering his feet in the upper room."
25 Esperaron hasta darles vergüenza; mas he aquí que él no abrió la puerta de la cámara alta; por lo cual tomando la llave abrieron, y vieron a su señor caído en el suelo y muerto.
They waited until they were ashamed; and look, he did not open the doors of the upper room: therefore they took the key, and opened them, and look, their lord was fallen down dead on the earth.
26 Mientras ellos estaban perplejos Aod huyó, y pasando más allá de Pesilim, se puso a salvo en Seirá.
Ehud escaped while they waited, and passed beyond the quarries, and escaped to Seirah.
27 Llegado a casa tocó la trompeta en la montaña de Efraím; y los hijos de Israel bajaron con él de la montaña, llevándole a su frente.
It happened, when he had come, that he blew a trumpet in the hill country of Ephraim; and the children of Israel went down with him from the hill country, and he before them.
28 Y les dijo: “Seguidme, pues Yahvé ha entregado en vuestras manos a vuestros enemigos, los moabitas.” Bajaron en pos de él, y tomaron los vados del Jordán frente a Moab, sin dejar pasar a nadie.
He said to them, "Follow after me; for Jehovah has delivered your enemies the Moabites into your hand." They went down after him, and took the fords of the Jordan against the Moabites, and did not allow a man to pass over.
29 Mataron en aquel tiempo, como diez mil hombres de Moab, todos robustos, y todos hombres valientes. No escapó uno solo.
They struck of Moab at that time about ten thousand men, every lusty man, and every man of valor; and there escaped not a man.
30 Aquel día fue Moab humillado bajo la mano de Israel, y el país tuvo descanso ochenta años.
So Moab was subdued that day under the hand of Israel. Then the land had rest eighty years. And Ehud judged them until he died.
31 Después de Aod, Samgar, hijo de Amat, mató a seiscientos hombres de los filisteos con un aguijón de bueyes. También él libertó a Israel.
And after him was Shamgar the son of Anath, who alone struck down six hundred men of the Philistines with an oxgoad. And he also saved Israel.
