Jueces 20

1 Entonces salieron todos los hijos de Israel, desde Dan hasta Bersabee, incluso los de la tierra de Galaad, y se reunieron como un solo hombre delante de Yahvé en Masfá.

Then went out all the children of Israel, and the congregation was assembled together as one man, from Dan even to Beer-sheba', with the land of Gil'ad, unto the Lord in Mizpah.

2 Se presentaron los jefes de todo el pueblo, de todas las tribus de Israel, en la asamblea del pueblo de Dios, cuatrocientos mil hombres de a pie, armados de espada.

and there presented themselves the chiefs of all the people, of all the tribes of Israel, in the assembly of the people of God, four hundred thousand men on foot that drew the sword.

3 Los hijos de Benjamín supieron que los hijos de Israel habían subido a Masfá. Preguntaron los hijos de Israel: “¿Podemos saber cómo fue perpetrada esta maldad?”

(And the children of Benjamin heard that the children of Israel were gone up to Mizpah.) And the children of Israel said, Speak, how did this wickedness take place?

4 Entonces el levita, marido de la mujer muerta, tomó la palabra y dijo: “Llegué yo con mi mujer secundaria a Gabaá, de Benjamín, para pasar la noche;

And the Levite, the husband of the woman that was murdered, answered and said, I came to Gib'ah that belongeth to Benjamin, I and my concubine, to stay one night,

5 y se levantaron contra mí los vecinos de Gabaá, me cercaron durante la noche en la casa con intención de matarme, y abusaron de mi mujer secundaria, de modo que murió.

When the men of Gib'ah rose against me, and beset the house round about against me by night; me they intended to slay; and my concubine they humbled, so that she died.

6 Por tanto eché mano de mi segunda mujer, la dividí en trozos, y la envié por todo el país de la herencia de Israel, por cuanto han cometido un crimen y una infamia en Israel.

And I took hold of my concubine and cut her in pieces, and sent her about throughout all the fields of the inheritance of Israel; for they had committed incest and scandal in Israel.

7 He aquí que todos vosotros sois hijos de Israel; dad vuestro parecer y decidid aquí mismo.”

Behold, ye are all here children of Israel: furnish for yourselves here advice and counsel.

8 Entonces todo el pueblo se levantó como un solo hombre, y dijo: “Ninguno vuelva a su tienda, ni regrese nadie a su casa.

And all the people then arose as one man, saying, We will not go any of us to his tent, neither will we turn any of us into his house.

9 Lo que ahora tenemos que hacer a Gabaá es esto: (Iremos) contra ella por sorteo;

And now this shall be the thing which we will do to Gib'ah: We will go up against it by lot;

10 tomaremos de entre todas las tribus de Israel diez hombres por cada ciento, ciento por cada mil, y mil por cada diez mil, que busquen víveres para el ejército y cuando ellos vuelvan, hagamos contra Gabaá de Benjamín conforme a la infamia que ha cometido en Israel.”

And we will take ten men out of every hundred throughout all the tribes of Israel, and a hundred out of every thousand, and a thousand out of every ten thousand, to procure provisions for the people; that they may do, when they come to Gib'ah of Benjamin, in accordance with all the scandalous deed that they have wrought in Israel.

11 Se juntaron todos los israelitas, contra la ciudad, unidos como un solo hombre.

So all the men of Israel were gathered against the city, associated together as one man.

12 Luego las tribus de Israel enviaron hombres a todas las familias de Benjamín que dijeran: “¿Qué maldad es esta que se ha cometido entre vosotros?

And the tribes of Israel sent men through all the divisions of Benjamin, saying, What wickedness is this that hath been done among you?

13 Entregad ahora a aquellos hijos de Belial, que están en Gabaá, para que les demos muerte y así extirpemos el mal de en medio de Israel.” Pero los hijos de Benjamín no quisieron escuchar la voz de sus hermanos, los hijos de Israel;

Now therefore deliver up the men, those worthless people, who are in Gib'ah, that we may put them to death, and remove evil from Israel. But the children of Benjamin would not hearken to the voice of their brethren the children of Israel.

14 sino que de las (demás) ciudades acudieron a Gabaá, para comenzar la guerra contra los hijos de Israel.

And the children of Benjamin gathered themselves together out of the cities unto Gib'ah, to go out to battle with the children of Israel.

15 Se contaron en aquel día veinte y seis mil benjaminitas armados de espada que habían venido de sus ciudades, sin contar los habitantes de Gabaá, de los cuales se alistaron setecientos hombres escogidos.

And at that time there were numbered of the children of Benjamin out of the cities twenty and six thousand men that drew the sword, beside the inhabitants of Gib'ah, who were numbered seven hundred chosen men.

16 Entre toda esta gente había setecientos hombres escogidos, zurdos; todos capaces de tirar piedras con la honda contra un cabello sin errar el blanco.

Among all this people there were seven hundred chosen men lame in the right hand: every one of these could sling a stone at a hair, and would not miss.

17 Entre los hijos de Israel, fuera de Benjamín, se contaron cuatrocientos mil hombres armados de espada, todos hombres aguerridos.

And the men of Israel, beside Benjamin, were numbered four hundred thousand men that drew the sword: all these were men of war.

18 Se levantaron y subieron a Betel, para consultar a Dios. Preguntaron los hijos de Israel: “¿Quién de nosotros subirá primero para hacer la guerra contra los hijos de Benjamín?” Respondió Yahvé: “Judá será el primero.”

And they arose, and went up to Beth-el, and asked counsel of God; and the children of Israel said, Who of us shall go up at first to the battle with the children of Benjamin? And the Lord said, Judah, at first.

19 Se levantaron entonces los hijos de Israel a la mañana y acamparon frente a Gabaá.

And the children of Israel rose up in the morning, and encamped against Gib'ah.

20 Y salieron los hombres de Israel a dar batalla a Benjamín, tomando posición contra ellos cerca de Gabaá.

And the men of Israel went out to battle with Benjamin; and the men of Israel put themselves in battle-array against them by Gib'ah.

21 Pero los hombres de Benjamín hicieron una salida desde la ciudad, y derribaron por tierra en aquel día veinte y dos mil hombres de los israelitas.

And the Children of Benjamin came forth out of Gib'ah, and struck down to the ground of the Israelites on that day twenty and two thousand men.

22 Sin embargo, los hombres de Israel recobraron su vigor y volvieron a ponerse en orden de batalla en el mismo sitio donde se habían ordenado el primer día.

And the people the men of Israel took courage, and set themselves again in battle-array in the place where they had arrayed themselves on the first day.

23 Además, los hijos de Israel subieron y lloraron delante de Yahvé hasta la tarde; y consultaron a Yahvé, diciendo: “¿He de presentarme de nuevo en batalla a los hijos de Benjamín mi hermano?” Respondió Yahvé: “Subid contra él.”

And the children of Israel went up and wept before the Lord until the evening, and asked counsel of the Lord, saying, Shall I again approach to battle with the children of Benjamin my brother? And the Lord said, Go up against him.

24 Se acercaron los hijos de Israel a los hijos de Benjamín también el segundo día.

And the children of Israel came near against the children of Benjamin on the second day.

25 Pero Benjamín hizo también el segundo día una salida contra ellos desde Gabaá, y derribaron otros diez y ocho mil de los hijos de Israel, todos ellos armados de espada.

And Benjamin went forth against them out of Gib'ah on the second day, and struck down to the ground of the children of Israel again eighteen thousand men: all these were men that drew the sword.

26 Por eso todos los hijos de Israel, y todo el pueblo, subieron y vinieron a Betel, donde permanecieron llorando delante de Yahvé. Ayunaron aquel día hasta la tarde y ofrecieron holocaustos y hostias pacíficas ante Yahvé.

Now all the children of Israel, and all the people, went up, and came unto Beth-el, and wept, and sat there before the Lord, and fasted on that day until the evening, and offered burnt-offerings and peace-offerings before the Lord.

27 Y consultaron los hijos de Israel a Yahvé —pues en aquellos días estaba allí el Arca de la Alianza de Dios,

And the children of Israel inquired of the Lord, (for there was the ark of the covenant of God in those days,

28 y Finés, hijo de Eleazar, hijo de Aarón, desempeñaba en aquel tiempo el servicio de Yahvé— diciendo: “¿Marcharé otra vez para dar batalla a los hijos de Benjamín, mi hermano, o cesaré?” Respondió Yahvé: “Sube, que mañana le entregaré en tu mano.”

And Phinehas, the son of Elazar, the son of Aaron, stood before it in those days, ) saying, shall I yet continue to go out to battle with the children of Benjamin my brother, or shall I forbear? And the Lord said, Go up; for tomorrow will I deliver him into thy hand.

29 Entonces Israel puso una emboscada alrededor de Gabaá,

And Israel sent men to lie in wait round about Gib'ah.

30 y al tercer día subieron los hijos de Israel contra los hijos de Benjamín, y se pusieron en orden de batalla contra Gabaá, como las otras veces.

And the children of Israel went up against the children of Benjamin on the third day, and put themselves in array against Gib'ah, as at previous times.

31 Los hijos de Benjamín salieron contra el pueblo, y alejados ya de la ciudad, comenzaron a hacer estragos entre el pueblo, como las veces anteriores, en los caminos, de los cuales uno sube a Betel, y el otro a Gabaá. Así dieron muerte en el campo a unos treinta hombres de Israel.

And the children of Benjamin went out against the people, and were drawn away from the city; and they began to smite some of the people, and kill, as at previous times, in the highways, of which one goeth up to Beth-el, and the other to Gib'ah in the field, about thirty men of Israel.

32 Y se decían los hijos de Benjamín: “Están derrotados ante nosotros como anteriormente”, en tanto que los hijos de Israel decían: “Huyamos y alejémoslos de la ciudad hacia estos caminos.”

And the children of Benjamin said, They are defeated before us, as at the first. But the children of Israel said, Let us flee, and draw them from the city unto the highways.

33 Entonces todos los hombres de Israel levantándose de sus puestos, se ordenaron en batalla en Baaltamar; también los israelitas de la emboscada se lanzaron fuera de sus posiciones, desde la llanura de Gabaá.

And all the men of Israel rose up out of their place, and put themselves in array at Ba'al-thamar: and those that lay in wait of Israel rushed forth out of their place, out of the meadows of Gib'ah.

34 Vinieron así contra Gabaá diez mil hombres escogidos de todo Israel, y la batalla fue recia, mas (los de Benjamín) no advirtieron que ya les alcanzaba el mal.

And there came against Gib'ah ten thousand chosen men out of all Israel, and the battle was severe; but they knew not that the evil was overtaking them.

35 Así derrotó Yahvé a Benjamín ante Israel, pues los hijos de Israel mataron en aquel día veinte y cinco mil cien hombres de Benjamín, todos armados de espada.

And the Lord smote Benjamin before Israel; and the children of Israel destroyed of the Benjamites on that day twenty and five thousand and one hundred men: all these were those that drew the sword.

36 Se vieron, pues, derrotados los hijos de Benjamín, porque los hijos de Israel cedieron terreno a Benjamín, fiándose de la emboscada que habían tendido contra Gabaá.

And the children of Benjamin saw that they were defeated; for the men of Israel gave place to the Benjamites, because they trusted unto those that lay in wait whom they had set against Gib'ah.

37 Efectivamente los emboscados se arrojaron sobre Gabaá con toda rapidez, y avanzando pasaron toda la ciudad a filo de espada.

And those in ambush hastened, and spread themselves over Gib'ah; and those that lay in wait moved along, and smote all the city with the edge of the sword.

38 Habían convenido los hijos de Israel con los de la emboscada en que estos hiciesen subir desde la ciudad una gran humareda.

Now there was an understanding between the men of Israel and those that lay in wait, that they should make an abundance of columns of smoke rise up out of the city.

39 Así cuando los hombres de Israel volvieron las espaldas en la batalla, y Benjamín hubo comenzado a matar entre los hombres de Israel unos treinta hombres —pues se decían: “están completamente derrotados ante nosotros como en la primera batalla”—

And when the men of Israel turned round in the battle, and Benjamin began to smite and kill of the men of Israel about thirty persons; for they said, Surely they are entirely defeated before us, as in the first battle:

40 empezó a elevarse desde la ciudad la columna de humo; de manera que cuando los benjaminitas miraron hacia atrás, vieron que de toda la ciudad subía fuego al cielo.

Then began the cloud to arise up out of the city as a pillar of smoke; and when the Benjamites looked behind them, behold, the flames of all the city were ascending up to heaven.

41 Entretanto los hombres de Israel les dieron la cara, y los benjaminitas vieron aterrados que les había alcanzado el mal.

And when the men of Israel turned again, the men of Benjamin were amazed; for they saw that the evil had overtaken them.

42 Volvieron las espaldas ante los hombres de Israel, tomando el camino del desierto; pero la batalla los alcanzó, y los que salían de la ciudad fueron matados, pues estaban encerrados por ambos lados.

Therefore they turned round before the men of Israel unto the way to the wilderness; but the battle overtook them; and those who came out of the cities destroyed them in the midst of them.

43 Cercando a los benjaminitas los persiguieron y los exterminaron en los refugios hasta enfrente de Gabaá, por la parte oriental.

They enclosed the Benjamites round about, chased them, they overtook them in their places of rest, as far as opposite to Gib'ah toward the rising of the sun.

44 Y cayeron de Benjamín diez y ocho mil hombres, todos ellos hombres valientes.

And there fell of Benjamin eighteen thousand men: all these were men of valor.

45 Los restantes volvieron las espaldas y huyeron camino del desierto, hacia la peña de Remmón. Mas (los de Israel) hicieron entre ellos una rebusca matando a cinco mil hombres en los caminos. Y siguiendo en su alcance hasta Gidom mataron de ellos dos mil hombres más.

And they turned and fled toward the wilderness unto the rock of Rimmon; and they gleaned of them in the highways five thousand men; and they pursued hard after them as far as Gid'om, and slew of them two thousand men.

46 Ascendieron las bajas de Benjamín en aquel día a veinte y cinco mil hombres de guerra, todos ellos hombres valientes.

So that all who fell on that day of Benjamin were twenty and five thousand men that drew the sword: all these were men of valor.

47 Solo los seiscientos hombres que habían vuelto las espaldas, lograron escaparse al desierto, a la peña de Remmón, donde permanecieron durante cuatro meses.

But six hundred men turned and fled into the wilderness unto the rock Rimmon, and they abode on the rock Rimmon four months.

48 Luego los hombres de Israel se volvieron contra (el resto de) los hijos de Benjamín, y los pasaron a filo de espada, así las ciudades, hombres y bestias, como todo lo que hallaron. Y pegaron fuego a todas las ciudades que encontraron.

And the men of Israel turned again upon the children of Benjamin, and smote them with the edge of the sword, as well the men of every city, as the beasts, and all that was found: also all the cities that they came upon did they set on fire.
