1 Cuando Sansón llegó a Gaza, vio allí a una prostituta, en cuya casa entró.
Then went Samson to Gaza, and saw there an harlot, and went in to her.
2 Se les dijo a los de Gaza: “Sansón ha venido a esta.” Por lo cual lo cercaron, y estuvieron en acecho toda aquella noche, a la puerta de la ciudad. Y toda la noche quedaron tranquilos, diciendo: “Cuando salga la luz del alba lo mataremos.”
And it was told the Gazites, saying, Samson is come here. And they compassed him in, and laid wait for him all night in the gate of the city, and were quiet all the night, saying, In the morning, when it is day, we shall kill him.
3 Sansón permaneció acostado hasta la medianoche. A medianoche se levantó, y tomando las hojas de la puerta de la ciudad con las dos jambas, las arrancó juntamente con el cerrojo, y echándoselas a cuestas las llevó a la cumbre del monte que mira hacia Hebrón.
And Samson lay till midnight, and arose at midnight, and took the doors of the gate of the city, and the two posts, and went away with them, bar and all, and put them on his shoulders, and carried them up to the top of an hill that is before Hebron.
4 Después de esto amó a una mujer que habitaba en el valle de Sorec y que se llamaba Dalila.
And it came to pass afterward, that he loved a woman in the valley of Sorek, whose name was Delilah.
5 Vinieron a ellas los príncipes de los filisteos y le dijeron: “Atráelo con halagos para ver en qué consiste su gran fuerza, y cómo podríamos prevalecer contra él para atarlo y sujetarlo, y te daremos cada uno mil cien siclos de plata.”
And the lords of the Philistines came up to her, and said to her, Entice him, and see wherein his great strength lies, and by what means we may prevail against him, that we may bind him to afflict him; and we will give you every one of us eleven hundred pieces of silver.
6 Dijo Dalila a Sansón: “Dime, te ruego, en qué consiste tu gran fuerza y con qué se te debe atar para sujetarte.”
And Delilah said to Samson, Tell me, I pray you, wherein your great strength lies, and with which you might be bound to afflict you.
7 Sansón respondió: “Si me atan con siete cuerdas frescas, húmedas aún, quedaré sin fuerzas y vendré a ser como cualquier otro hombre.”
And Samson said to her, If they bind me with seven green thongs that were never dried, then shall I be weak, and be as another man.
8 Entonces los príncipes de los filisteos le llevaron siete cuerdas frescas, todavía húmedas, y lo ató con ellas.
Then the lords of the Philistines brought up to her seven green thongs which had not been dried, and she bound him with them.
9 Tenía ella en el aposento gentes en acecho, y le dijo: “Sansón, los filisteos sobre ti.” Mas él rompió las cuerdas, como se rompe un hilo de estopa cuando siente el fuego; de manera que no se descubrió (el secreto de) su fuerza.
Now there were men lying in wait, abiding with her in the chamber. And she said to him, The Philistines be on you, Samson. And he broke the thongs, as a thread of wick is broken when it touches the fire. So his strength was not known.
10 Entonces dijo Dalila a Sansón: “He aquí que te has burlado de mí, diciéndome mentiras. Ahora dime, te ruego, con qué podrás ser atado.”
And Delilah said to Samson, Behold, you have mocked me, and told me lies: now tell me, I pray you, with which you might be bound.
11 Él contestó: “Si me atan cien con sogas nuevas, no usadas todavía para otra cosa, quedaré sin fuerzas y vendré a ser como cualquier otro hombre.”
And he said to her, If they bind me fast with new ropes that never were occupied, then shall I be weak, and be as another man.
12 Tomó Dalila sogas nuevas, y habiéndolo atado con ellas, le dijo: “Sansón, los filisteos sobre ti”; y estaban efectivamente acechadores apostados en el aposento. Pero él rompió las sogas de sobre sus brazos como un hilo.
Delilah therefore took new ropes, and bound him therewith, and said to him, The Philistines be on you, Samson. And there were liers in wait abiding in the chamber. And he broke them from off his arms like a thread.
13 Luego dijo Dalila a Sansón: “Hasta ahora te has burlado de mí, diciéndome mentiras; dime al fin con qué podrás ser atado.” Y él le dijo: “Entreteje las siete trenzas de mi cabeza con una clavija de tejedor.”
And Delilah said to Samson, Till now you have mocked me, and told me lies: tell me with which you might be bound. And he said to her, If you weave the seven locks of my head with the web.
14 Ella las aseguró con una clavija y le dijo: “Sansón, los filisteos sobre ti.” Pero él, despertando de su sueño, arrancó la clavija de tejedor juntamente con la urdimbre.
And she fastened it with the pin, and said to him, The Philistines be on you, Samson. And he awaked out of his sleep, and went away with the pin of the beam, and with the web.
15 Ella entonces le dijo: “¿Cómo puedes decir: Yo te amo, cuando tu corazón no está conmigo? Ya tres veces te has burlado de mí, y no me has manifestado en qué consiste tu gran fuerza.”
And she said to him, How can you say, I love you, when your heart is not with me? you have mocked me these three times, and have not told me wherein your great strength lies.
16 Y como ella le molestase con sus palabras todos los días y le apremiase, perdió su alma la gana de vivir,
And it came to pass, when she pressed him daily with her words, and urged him, so that his soul was vexed to death;
17 y le descubrió todo su corazón, diciendo: Nunca ha pasado navaja por mi cabeza, pues soy nazareo de Dios desde el seno de mi madre. Si yo fuese rapado, perdería mi fuerza, me quedaría débil y vendría a ser como cualquier otro hombre.”
That he told her all his heart, and said to her, There has not come a razor on my head; for I have been a Nazarite to God from my mother’s womb: if I be shaven, then my strength will go from me, and I shall become weak, and be like any other man.
18 Dalila vio que le había descubierto todo su corazón, por lo cual envió a llamar a los príncipes de los filisteos, diciendo: “Subid aún esta vez, porque me ha descubierto todo su corazón.” Subieron los príncipes de los filisteos a la casa de ella, llevando el dinero en su mano.
And when Delilah saw that he had told her all his heart, she sent and called for the lords of the Philistines, saying, Come up this once, for he has showed me all his heart. Then the lords of the Philistines came up to her, and brought money in their hand.
19 Le hizo entonces dormir sobre sus rodillas; luego llamó al hombre para que le cortara las siete trenzas de la cabeza; entretanto, ella misma comenzó a sujetarlo, y su fuerza se apartó de él.
And she made him sleep on her knees; and she called for a man, and she caused him to shave off the seven locks of his head; and she began to afflict him, and his strength went from him.
20 Y ella le dijo: “Sansón, los filisteos sobre ti.” Él, despertándose de su sueño, se dijo: “Saldré como las demás veces, y me desembarazaré”, pues no sabía que Yahvé se había apartado de él.
And she said, The Philistines be on you, Samson. And he awoke out of his sleep, and said, I will go out as at other times before, and shake myself. And he knew not that the LORD was departed from him.
21 Los filisteos, después de haberlo prendido, le sacaron los ojos, y lo llevaron a Gaza, donde lo sujetaron con doble cadena de bronce; y en la cárcel tuvo que dar vueltas a la muela.
But the Philistines took him, and put out his eyes, and brought him down to Gaza, and bound him with fetters of brass; and he did grind in the prison house.
22 Mas el cabello de su cabeza comenzó a crecer después de haber sido rapado.
However, the hair of his head began to grow again after he was shaven.
23 Los príncipes de los filisteos se reunieron para ofrecer un gran sacrificio a Dagón, su dios, y celebrar fiesta; pues decían: “Nuestro dios ha entregado en nuestras manos a Sansón, nuestro enemigo.”
Then the lords of the Philistines gathered them together for to offer a great sacrifice to Dagon their god, and to rejoice: for they said, Our god has delivered Samson our enemy into our hand.
24 También el pueblo, al verle, alabó a su dios, diciendo: “Nuestro dios ha entregado en nuestras manos a nuestro enemigo, que asolaba nuestro país, matando a nuestra gente.”
And when the people saw him, they praised their god: for they said, Our god has delivered into our hands our enemy, and the destroyer of our country, which slew many of us.
25 Y en la alegría de su corazón dijeron: “Llamad a Sansón, para que nos divierta.” Llamaron a Sansón de la cárcel y tuvo que divertirlos. Pero Sansón, al cual tenían colocado entre las columnas,
And it came to pass, when their hearts were merry, that they said, Call for Samson, that he may make us sport. And they called for Samson out of the prison house; and he made them sport: and they set him between the pillars.
26 dijo al muchacho que le tenía de la mano: “Déjame tocar las columnas sobre las cuales se sustenta la casa, para apoyarme sobre ellas.”
And Samson said to the lad that held him by the hand, Suffer me that I may feel the pillars whereupon the house stands, that I may lean on them.
27 Ahora bien, la casa estaba llena de hombres y mujeres; también todos los príncipes de los filisteos estaban allí, y sobre las azoteas había unos tres mil hombres y mujeres que miraban a Sansón que los divertía.
Now the house was full of men and women; and all the lords of the Philistines were there; and there were on the roof about three thousand men and women, that beheld while Samson made sport.
28 Entonces Sansón invocó a Yahvé, y dijo: “Señor, Yahvé, acuérdate de mí, te ruego, y dame fuerza solamente esta vez, para que de una vez me vengue de los filisteos por mis dos ojos.”
And Samson called to the LORD, and said, O Lord God, remember me, I pray you, and strengthen me, I pray you, only this once, O God, that I may be at once avenged of the Philistines for my two eyes.
29 Y agarró Sansón las dos columnas de en medio, sobre las cuales estribaba la casa; y apoyándose sobre ellas, sobre la una con su mano derecha, y sobre la otra con la izquierda,
And Samson took hold of the two middle pillars on which the house stood, and on which it was borne up, of the one with his right hand, and of the other with his left.
30 dijo: “Muera yo con los filisteos”, y dio tan fuertemente (contra las columnas) que la casa cayó sobre los príncipes de los filisteos y sobre todo el pueblo que allí estaba reunido, de modo que los que mató muriendo, fueron más numerosos que los que había muerto en vida.
And Samson said, Let me die with the Philistines. And he bowed himself with all his might; and the house fell on the lords, and on all the people that were therein. So the dead which he slew at his death were more than they which he slew in his life.
31 Sus hermanos y toda la casa de su padre bajaron, y levantándolo se lo llevaron. Lo sepultaron entre Saraá y Estaol, en la sepultura de Manué, su padre. Fue juez de Israel por espacio de veinte años.
Then his brothers and all the house of his father came down, and took him, and brought him up, and buried him between Zorah and Eshtaol in the burial plot of Manoah his father. And he judged Israel twenty years.
