Josué 22
1 Entonces llamó Josué a los rubenitas, a los gaditas y a la media tribu de Manasés,
Then Joshua summoned the Reubenites, the Gadites, and the half-tribe of Manasseh
2 y les dijo: “Vosotros habéis cumplido todo lo que os mandó Moisés, siervo de Yahvé; y habéis escuchado también mi voz en todo lo que os he mandado.
and told them, “You have done all that Moses the servant of the LORD commanded you, and you have obeyed my voice in all that I commanded you.
3 No habéis abandonado a vuestros hermanos durante este largo tiempo hasta hoy, sino que habéis guardado escrupulosamente el mandamiento de Yahvé, vuestro Dios.
All this time you have not deserted your brothers, up to this very day, but have kept the charge given you by the LORD your God.
4 Ahora, pues, ya que Yahvé vuestro Dios ha concedido descanso a vuestros hermanos, como les prometió, volveos e id a vuestras tiendas, al país de vuestra posesión, que os dio Moisés, siervo de Yahvé, al otro lado del Jordán.
And now that the LORD your God has given your brothers rest as He promised them, you may return to your homes in the land that Moses the servant of the LORD gave you across the Jordan.
5 Pero cuidad bien de poner en práctica los preceptos y la Ley que Moisés, siervo de Yahvé, os ha prescrito (y que consiste en) amar a Yahvé, vuestro Dios, caminar en todos sus caminos y observar sus mandamientos, adhiriéndoos a Él y sirviéndole de todo vuestro corazón y con toda vuestra alma.”
But be very careful to observe the commandment and the law that Moses the servant of the LORD gave you: to love the LORD your God, to walk in all His ways, to keep His commandments, to hold fast to Him, and to serve Him with all your heart and with all your soul.”
6 Luego Josué los bendijo y los despidió, y ellos se fueron a sus tiendas.
So Joshua blessed them and sent them on their way, and they went to their homes.
7 Moisés había dado a la mitad de la tribu de Manasés (posesión) en Basan, mas a la otra mitad se la dio Josué entre sus hermanos en este lado del Jordán, al occidente. Josué los bendijo al remitirlos a sus tiendas,
(To the half-tribe of Manasseh Moses had given land in Bashan, and to the other half Joshua gave land on the west side of the Jordan among their brothers.) When Joshua sent them to their homes he blessed them,
8 y les habló, diciendo: “Volveos a vuestras tiendas con grandes riquezas y con muchísimo ganado; con plata, oro, bronce, hierro y ropa en abundancia. Pero partid con vuestros hermanos los despojos de vuestros enemigos.”
saying, “Return to your homes with your great wealth, with immense herds of livestock, with silver, gold, bronze, iron, and very many clothes. Divide with your brothers the spoil of your enemies.”
9 Con esto los hijos de Rubén, los hijos de Gad y la media tribu de Manasés se volvieron, despidiéndose de los hijos de Israel en Silo, que está en el país de Canaán, para irse al país de Galaad, la tierra de su posesión, que habían recibido por Moisés según la orden de Yahvé.
So the Reubenites, the Gadites, and the half-tribe of Manasseh left the Israelites at Shiloh in the land of Canaan to return to their own land of Gilead, which they had acquired according to the command of the LORD through Moses.
10 Llegados que hubieron a los distritos del Jordán, que pertenecen a la tierra de Canaán, los hijos de Rubén, los hijos de Gad y la media tribu de Manasés edificaron allí, junto al Jordán, un altar, un altar grande y magnífico.
And when they came to Geliloth near the Jordan in the land of Canaan, the Reubenites, the Gadites, and the half-tribe of Manasseh built an imposing altar there by the Jordan.
11 Y se les dijo a los hijos de Israel: “Mirad que los hijos de Rubén, los hijos de Gad y la media tribu de Manasés han edificado ese altar en la frontera de la tierra de Canaán, en los distritos del Jordán, en la ribera de los hijos de Israel.”
Then the Israelites received the report: “Behold, the Reubenites, the Gadites, and the half-tribe of Manasseh have built an altar on the border of the land of Canaan, at Geliloth near the Jordan on the Israelite side.”
12 Al oír esto los hijos de Israel, se reunió toda la Congregación de los hijos de Israel en Silo, para salir contra ellos y hacerles la guerra.
And when they heard this, the whole congregation of Israel assembled at Shiloh to go to war against them.
13 Pero (primero) enviaron los hijos de Israel a Finés, hijo del sacerdote Eleazar, hacia los hijos de Rubén, hacia los hijos de Gad y hacia la media tribu de Manasés en el país de Galaad,
The Israelites sent Phinehas son of Eleazar the priest to the land of Gilead, to the Reubenites, the Gadites, and the half-tribe of Manasseh.
14 y con él diez príncipes, un príncipe de las casas paternas de cada tribu de Israel; eran todos ellos cabezas de sus casas paternas, entre los millares de Israel.
With him they sent ten chiefs—one family leader from each tribe of Israel, each the head of a family among the clans of Israel.
15 Los cuales fueron a los hijos de Rubén, a los hijos de Gad y a la media tribu de Manasés, en el país de Galaad, y hablaron con ellos en estos términos:
They went to the Reubenites, the Gadites, and the half-tribe of Manasseh in the land of Gilead and said to them,
16 “Así dice toda la Congregación de Yahvé: ¿Qué infidelidad es esta que habéis cometido contra el Dios de Israel, apartándoos ahora de Yahvé, y edificándoos un altar, para rebelaros hoy contra Yahvé?
“This is what the whole congregation of the LORD says: ‘What is this breach of faith you have committed today against the God of Israel by turning away from the LORD and building for yourselves an altar, that you might rebel against the LORD this day?
17 ¿Acaso no nos basta la maldad de Fegor, de la cual hasta hoy no nos hemos purificado, aunque hubo castigo de la Congregación de Yahvé?
Was not the sin of Peor enough for us, from which we have not cleansed ourselves to this day? It even brought a plague upon the congregation of the LORD.
18 ¡Y ahora vosotros os apartáis de Yahvé! Si vosotros hoy os rebeláis contra Yahvé, se encenderá mañana su ira contra toda la Congregación de Israel.
And now, would you turn away from the LORD? If you rebel today against the LORD, tomorrow He will be angry with the whole congregation of Israel.
19 Si la tierra de vuestra posesión es inmunda, pasaos a la tierra de la posesión de Yahvé, donde está el Tabernáculo de Yahvé, y tomad posesión en medio de nosotros; pero no os rebeléis contra Yahvé, ni contra nosotros, edificándoos un altar, fuera del altar de Yahvé, nuestro Dios.
If indeed the land of your inheritance is unclean, then cross over to the land of the LORD’s possession, where the LORD’s tabernacle stands, and take possession of it among us. But do not rebel against the LORD or against us by building for yourselves an altar other than the altar of the LORD our God.
20 ¿No cometió Acán, hijo de Zare, maldad respecto de las cosas consagradas al anatema, y sobre toda la Congregación de Israel descargó la ira? Y no solamente él pereció por su iniquidad.”
Was not Achan son of Zerah unfaithful regarding what was set apart for destruction, bringing wrath upon the whole congregation of Israel? Yet it was not only Achan who perished because of his sin!’”
21 Respondieron los hijos de Rubén, los hijos de Gad y la media tribu de Manasés y dijeron a los jefes de los millares de Israel:
Then the Reubenites, the Gadites, and the half-tribe of Manasseh answered the leaders of the clans of Israel:
22 “El supremo Dios, Yahvé, sí, el supremo Dios, Yahvé, Él lo sabe, y lo sepa también Israel: si ha sido por rebelión, o por infidelidad contra Yahvé, no haya hoy salvación para nosotros.
“The LORD, the Mighty One, is God! The LORD, the Mighty One, is God! He knows, and may Israel also know. If this was in rebellion or breach of faith against the LORD, do not spare us today.
23 Si nos hemos edificado un altar para apartarnos de Yahvé, para ofrecer sobre él holocaustos y oblaciones, y para presentar allí sacrificios pacíficos, que Yahvé nos demande.
If we have built for ourselves an altar to turn away from Him and to offer burnt offerings and grain offerings on it, or to sacrifice fellowship offerings on it, may the LORD Himself hold us accountable.
24 Muy al contrario, hicimos esto por la siguiente preocupación: Él día de mañana vuestros hijos hablarán, tal vez, a nuestros hijos, diciendo: ¿Qué tenéis vosotros que ver con Yahvé, el Dios de Israel?
But in fact we have done this for fear that in the future your descendants might say to ours, ‘What have you to do with the LORD, the God of Israel?
25 Yahvé ha puesto el Jordán como frontera entre nosotros y vosotros, oh hijos de Rubén e hijos de Gad; vosotros no tenéis parte con Yahvé. Con esto vuestros hijos podrían extinguir en nuestros hijos el temor de Yahvé.
For the LORD has made the Jordan a border between us and you Reubenites and Gadites. You have no share in the LORD!’ So your descendants could cause ours to stop fearing the LORD.
26 Por lo cual dijimos: Pongámonos a erigir ese altar, no para holocaustos, ni para sacrificios,
That is why we said, ‘Let us take action and build an altar for ourselves, but not for burnt offerings or sacrifices.
27 sino como testimonio entre nosotros y vosotros, y entre nuestros descendientes después de nosotros, para poder servir a Yahvé delante de Él, con nuestros holocaustos, con nuestras víctimas y con nuestros sacrificios pacíficos; de modo que vuestros hijos no podrán decir el día de mañana a nuestros hijos: No tenéis parte en Yahvé.
Rather, let it be a witness between us and you and the generations to come, that we will worship the LORD in His presence with our burnt offerings, sacrifices, and peace offerings.’ Then in the future, your descendants cannot say to ours, ‘You have no share in the LORD!’
28 Dijimos pues: Si el día de mañana dijeran esto a nosotros, o a nuestros descendientes, responderíamos: Mirad la figura del altar de Yahvé que hicieron nuestros padres, no para holocaustos, ni para sacrificios, sino para que sea testimonio entre nosotros y vosotros.
Therefore we said, ‘If they ever say this to us or to our descendants, we will answer: Look at the replica of the altar of the LORD that our fathers made, not for burnt offerings or sacrifices, but as a witness between us and you.’
29 ¡Lejos sea de nosotros el que nos rebelemos contra Yahvé, o que nos apartemos hoy de Yahvé, edificando un altar para holocaustos, oblaciones y sacrificios, fuera del altar de Yahvé, nuestro Dios, que está delante de su Tabernáculo!”
Far be it from us to rebel against the LORD and turn away from Him today by building an altar for burnt offerings, grain offerings, or sacrifices, other than the altar of the LORD our God, which stands before His tabernacle.”
30 Cuando el sacerdote Finés, los príncipes de la Congregación, y los jefes de los millares de Israel que estaban con él, oyeron las palabras de los hijos de Rubén, de los hijos de Gad y de los hijos de Manasés, se tranquilizaron;
When Phinehas the priest and the chiefs of the congregation—the heads of Israel’s clans who were with him—heard what the descendants of Reuben, Gad, and Manasseh had to say, they were satisfied.
31 y dijo Finés, hijo del sacerdote Eleazar, a los hijos de Rubén, a los hijos de Gad y a los hijos de Manasés: “Ahora sabemos que Yahvé está en medio de nosotros, puesto que no habéis cometido tal infidelidad contra Yahvé. Así habéis librado a los hijos de Israel de la mano de Yahvé.”
Phinehas son of Eleazar the priest said to the descendants of Reuben, Gad, and Manasseh, “Today we know that the LORD is among us, because you have not committed this breach of faith against Him. Consequently, you have delivered the Israelites from the hand of the LORD.”
32 Después Finés, hijo del sacerdote Eleazar, y los príncipes dejaron a los hijos de Rubén y a los hijos de Gad y se volvieron de la tierra de Galaad a la tierra de Canaán, a los hijos de Israel, para darles respuesta.
Then Phinehas son of Eleazar the priest, together with the other leaders, returned to the Israelites in the land of Canaan and brought back a report regarding the Reubenites and Gadites in the land of Gilead.
33 Y quedaron satisfechos los hijos de Israel, los cuales bendijeron a Dios y no hablaron más de salir contra ellos en guerra, para devastar la tierra que habitaban los hijos de Rubén y los hijos de Gad.
The Israelites were satisfied with the report, and they blessed God and spoke no more about going to war against them to destroy the land where the Reubenites and Gadites lived.
34 Y los hijos de Rubén y los hijos de Gad pusieron por título al altar que habían construido: “Testimonio entre nosotros de que Yahvé es Dios.”
So the Reubenites and Gadites named the altar Witness, for they said, “It is a witness between us that the LORD is God.”
