Job 41
1 ¿Pescas tú con anzuelo a Leviatán, y atas con una cuerda su lengua?
Canst thou draw out leviathan with a hook? or his tongue with a cord [which] thou lettest down?
2 ¿Le meterás un junco en la nariz, le taladrarás con un gancho la quijada?
Canst thou put a hook into his nose? or bore his jaw through with a thorn?
3 ¿Acaso te dirigirá muchas súplicas, o te dirá palabras tiernas?
Will he make many supplications to thee? will he speak soft [words] to thee?
4 ¿Hará pacto contigo? ¿Lo tomarás por perpetuo esclavo?
Will he make a covenant with thee? wilt thou take him for a servant for ever?
5 ¿Juguetearás con él como con un pájaro? ¿Lo atarás para tus hijas?
Wilt thou play with him as [with] a bird? or wilt thou bind him for thy maidens?
6 ¿Lo tomarán los amigos para comida? ¿Se lo repartirán entre sí los mercaderes?
Shall the companions make a banquet of him? shall they part him among the merchants.
7 ¿Horadarás su cuero con flechas, y con el arpón su cabeza?
Canst thou fill his skin with barbed irons? or his head with fish spears?
8 Pon (una vez) en él tu mano; y no olvidarás el combate; no volverás a hacerlo.
Lay thy hand upon him, remember the battle, do no more.
9 He aquí que la esperanza (de los cazadores) es vana; su solo aspecto basta para echarlos por tierra.”
Behold, the hope of him is in vain: shall not [one] be cast down even at the sight of him?
10 “Nadie es tan audaz que le despierte. ¿Quién es capaz de mantenerse en pie delante de Mí?
None [is so] fierce that he dare rouse him: who then is able to stand before me?
11 ¿Quién me dio algo primero, para que Yo lo recompense? Mío es lo que hay bajo todo el cielo.
Who hath first benefited me, that I should repay [him]? [whatever is] under the whole heaven is mine.
12 No callaré sus miembros, su fuerza, la armonía de sus proporciones.
I will not conceal his parts, nor his power, nor his comely proportion.
13 ¿Quién puede abrir las mallas de su cota, franquear la doble fila de sus dientes?
Who can discover the face of his garment? [or] who can come [to him] with his double bridle?
14 Las puertas de su boca ¿quién jamás las ha abierto?; el cerco de sus dientes causa espanto.
Who can open the doors of his face? his teeth [are] terrible around.
15 Su espalda cubren escamas en forma de escudos, compactas como un sello de piedra.
[His] scales [are his] pride, shut together [as with] a close seal.
16 Se traba una con otra tan íntimamente, que el aire no puede pasar entre ellas.
One is so near to another, that no air can come between them.
17 Una está pegada a la otra; asidas entre sí no pueden separarse.
They are joined one to another, they stick together, that they cannot be sundered.
18 Sus estornudos son chispas de fuego, sus ojos como los párpados de la aurora.
His sneezings flash light, and his eyes [are] like the eyelids of the morning.
19 De su boca salen llamas y se escapan centellas de fuego.
Out of his mouth go burning lamps, [and] sparks of fire dart forth.
20 Sus narices arrojan humo, como de olla encendida e hirviente.
Out of his nostrils issueth smoke, as [out] of a seething pot or caldron.
21 Su resoplido enciende carbones y su boca despide llamaradas.
His breath kindleth coals, and a flame issueth from his mouth.
22 En su cerviz reside la fuerza, ante él tiembla el mismo espanto.
In his neck remaineth strength, and sorrow is turned into joy before him.
23 Aun las partes flojas de su carne están unidas entre sí, sin que quede resquicio ni posibilidad de oscilar.
The flakes of his flesh are joined together: they are firm in themselves; they cannot be moved.
24 Su corazón es duro como piedra; tan duro como la muela inferior.
His heart is as firm as a stone; yes, as hard as a piece of the nether [millstone].
25 Cuando se alza tienen miedo los más valientes, y de terror están fuera de sí.
When he raiseth himself, the mighty are afraid: by reason of breakings they purify themselves.
26 La espada que le acomete se rompe, lo mismo que la lanza, el dardo y la coraza.
The sword of him that attacketh him cannot hold: the spear, the dart, nor the habergeon.
27 Estima como paja el hierro, y el bronce como leña carcomida.
He esteemeth iron as straw, [and] brass as rotten wood.
28 No le pone en fuga el hijo del arco; las piedras de la honda le parecen paja.
The arrow cannot make him flee: sling-stones are turned with him into stubble.
29 La maza es para él como hojarasca, y se ríe del silbido del venablo.
Darts are counted as stubble: he laugheth at the shaking of a spear.
30 Su vientre tiene puntas de teja, se arrastra cual trillo sobre el cieno.
Sharp stones [are] under him: he spreadeth sharp pointed things upon the mire.
31 Hace hervir el abismo como olla, y el mar como caldero de ungüentos.
He maketh the deep to boil like a pot: he maketh the sea like a pot of ointment.
32 Tras él un surco de luz, de modo que el abismo parece canoso.
He maketh a path to shine after him; [one] would think the deep [to be] hoary.
33 No hay en la tierra semejante a él, pues fue creado para no tener miedo.
Upon earth there is not his like, who is made without fear.
34 Mira (con desprecio) lo más alto; es rey de todos los soberbios.”
He beholdeth all high [things]: he [is] a king over all the children of pride.
