Job 21
1 Replicó Job y dijo:
But Job answered and said,
2 “Escuchad bien mis palabras. Que me deis, a lo menos, este consuelo.
Hear you, hear you my words, that I may not have this consolation from you.
3 Toleradme, para que pueda hablar; y cuando haya hablado, podréis burlaros.
Raise me, and I will speak; then you shall not laugh me to scorn.
4 ¿Por ventura me quejo de un hombre? ¿Cómo no ha de impacientarse mi espíritu?
What! is my reproof of man? and why should I not be angry?
5 Miradme y espantaos, y poned la mano sobre la boca.
Look upon me, and wonder, laying your hand upon your cheek.
6 Yo, de solo pensarlo, tiemblo, y se apodera de mí un escalofrío.
For even when I remember, I am alarmed, and pains seize my flesh.
7 ¿Cómo es que viven los inicuos, alcanzan muchos años y gran fuerza?
Therefore do the ungodly live, and grow old even in wealth?
8 Sus hijos viven en su presencia, y sus vástagos ante sus ojos.
Their seed is according to [their] desire, and their children are in [their] sight.
9 Sus casas están en paz, sin temer nada, y la vara de Dios no los alcanza.
Their houses are prosperous, neither [have they] any where [cause for] fear, neither is there a scourge from the Lord upon them.
10 Sus toros son siempre fecundos, sus vacas paren y no abortan.
Their cow does not cast her calf, and their [beast] with young is safe, and does not miscarry.
11 Como manadas de ovejas salen sus pequeñuelos, y sus niños saltan (de gozo).
And they remain as an unfailing flock, and their children play before [them], taking up the lute and harp;
12 Bailan al son de la pandereta y de la cítara, y se regocijan al son de la flauta.
and they rejoice at the voice of a song.
And they spend their days in wealth, and fall asleep in the rest of the grave. (Sheol h7585)
14 Y, sin embargo, estos dicen a Dios: «Retírate de nosotros, no nos gusta conocer tus caminos.
Yet [such a man] says to the Lord, Depart from me; I desire not to know your ways.
15 ¿Qué es el Todopoderoso para que le sirvamos? ¿Qué ganaremos rogándole?»
What is the Mighty One, that we should serve him? and what profit is there that we should approach him?
16 ¿No está su fortuna en sus manos? ¡Lejos de mí el consejo de los impíos!
For their good things were in [their] hands, but he regards not the works of the ungodly.
17 Pues ¡cuántas veces se apaga la lámpara de los malvados, y viene sobre ellos su destrucción! ¡Y cuántas veces (Dios) en su ira les asigna dolores!
Nevertheless, the lamp of the ungodly also shall be put out, and destruction shall come upon them, and pangs of vengeance shall seize them.
18 Son como hojarasca llevada por el viento, como tamo que arrebata un torbellino.
And they shall be as chaff before the wind, or as dust which the storm has taken up.
19 (Dicen) que Dios guarda para los hijos la iniquidad del (padre). ¡Que le castigue a él, para que sepa!
Let his substance fail [to supply] his children: [God] shall recompense him, and he shall know it.
20 ¡Vean sus propios ojos su ruina, y beba él mismo la ira del Omnipotente!
Let his eyes see his own destruction, and let him not be saved by the Lord.
21 Pues ¿qué interés puede tener él por el futuro de su casa, cuando se le cortare el número de sus meses?
For his desire is in his house with him, and the number of his months has been suddenly cut off.
22 ¿Es acaso a Dios, a quien se puede enseñar sabiduría, siendo Él quien juzga a los grandes?
Is it not the Lord who teaches understanding and knowledge? and does not he judge murders?
23 Uno muere en su pleno vigor, enteramente feliz y tranquilo,
One shall die in his perfect strength, and wholly at ease and prosperous;
24 cubiertas sus entrañas de grosura, bien empapada la médula de sus huesos;
and his inwards are full of fat, and his marrow is diffused [throughout him].
25 y; otro muere en amargura de alma, sin haber gozado de los bienes.
And another dies in bitterness of soul, not eating any good thing.
26 Pero yacen en el polvo de modo igual, y los cubren los gusanos.
But they lie down in the earth together, and corruption covers them.
27 Ya conozco vuestros pensamientos, y los planes insidiosos que fraguáis contra mí.
So I know you, that you presumptuously attack me:
28 Porque decís: «¿Dónde está la casa del opresor? ¿Qué se hizo de la tienda que habitaban los impíos?»
so that you will say, Where is the house of the prince? and where is the covering of the tabernacles of the ungodly?
29 ¿No habéis preguntado jamás a los que pasan por el camino? Por eso tampoco conocéis lo que os indican:
Ask those that go by the way, and do not disown their tokens.
30 que en el día de la perdición es salvado el impío, y que escapa en el día de la ira.
For the wicked hastens to the day of destruction: they shall be led away for the day of his vengeance.
31 ¿Quién le echa en cara su conducta? y por lo que hizo ¿quién lo castiga?
Who will tell him his way to his face, whereas he has done [it]? who shall recompense him?
32 Es llevado al sepulcro (con honor), y sobre su túmulo se vela.
And he has been led away to the tombs, and he has watched over the heaps.
33 Leves le son los terrones del valle; y todos siguen en pos de él, así como no tienen número los que van delante de él.
The stones of the valley have been sweet to him, and every man shall depart after him, and [there are] innumerable [ones] before him.
34 ¿Cómo pues me consoláis con vanas palabras si vuestras respuestas no son más que perfidia?”
How then do you comfort me in vain? whereas I have no rest from your molestation.
