Jeremías 40
1 He aquí la palabra que Jeremías recibió de Yahvé, después que Nabuzardán, capitán de la guardia, lo había dejado ir de Ramá. Cuando lo hizo venir, estaba aún atado con cadenas en medio de todos los cautivos de Jerusalén y de Judá que iban deportados a Babilonia.
The word which came to Jeremiah from Jehovah, after that Nebuzaradan, captain of the guard, had let him go from Ramah. For he had taken him, and he had been bound with chains among all the captives of Jerusalem and Judah which were carried away captive to Babylon.
2 El capitán de la guardia llamó a Jeremías y le dijo: “Yahvé tu Dios había predicho estos males contra este lugar;
And the captain of the guard took Jeremiah, and said to him: “Jehovah, thy God, pronounced this evil against this place;
3 y Yahvé los ha traído y cumplido como lo había dicho; porque pecasteis contra Yahvé, y no obedecisteis su voz, por eso os ha sucedido esto.
and now Jehovah hath brought it, and done according as he spake, because ye sinned against Jehovah, and obeyed not his voice; therefore hath this thing come upon you.
4 Ahora, pues, mira que hoy te quito las cadenas que están sobre tus manos. Si te parece bien ir conmigo a Babilonia, ven y yo te cuidaré, pero si no quieres ir conmigo a Babilonia, no vengas. Mira que todo el país está delante de ti; podrás irte a cualquier lugar que te parezca bueno y conveniente.”
And now, behold, I loose thee this day from the chains upon thy hands. If it seem good to thee to come with me to Babylon, come; and I will set my eyes upon thee; but if it seem evil to thee to come with me to Babylon, forbear; behold, the whole land is before thee; whither it seemeth good and desirable for thee to go, thither go.”
5 (Jeremías) tardaba aún en volver, por lo cual (le dijo); “Vete a Godolías, hijo de Ahicam, hijo de Safán, a quien el rey de Babilonia ha constituido gobernador de las ciudades de Judá. Habita con él en medio del pueblo, o vete a donde mejor te parezca.” El capitán de la guardia le dio también provisiones y regalos y le despidió.
And while he was not yet gone away [[he said]]: “Go to Gedaliah, the of son Ahikam, the son of Shaphan, whom the king of Babylon hath made governor over the cities of Judah, and dwell with him among the people; or go whithersoever it seemeth good to thee to go.” And the captain of the guard gave him provisions, and a present, and dismissed him.
6 Se fue Jeremías a Godolías, hijo de Ahicam, a Masfá, y habitó allí, en medio del pueblo que había quedado en el país.
And Jeremiah went to Gedaliah, the son of Ahikam, to Mizpah, and dwelt with him among the people that were left in the land.
7 Cuando a todos los capitanes de las tropas desparramadas por el campo, a ellos y a sus gentes, llegó la noticia de que el rey de Babilonia había hecho gobernador del país a Godolías, hijo de Ahicam, y que le había encomendado los hombres y las mujeres y los niños, y aquellos pobres del país que no habían sido deportados a Babilonia;
Now when all the captains of the forces which were in the fields, they and their men, heard that the king of Babylon had made Gedaliah, the son of Ahikam, governor over the land, and had committed to his charge men and women and children, of the poor of the land, of them that were not carried away captive to Babylon,
8 vinieron a Godolías, a Masfá, (estos hombres): Ismael, hijo de Natanías, Johanán y Jonatán, hijos de Caree, Seraías, hijo de Tanhumet, los hijos de Efai netofatita, y Jezanías, hijo del Macaatita, ellos y sus gentes.
then they came to Gedaliah, to Mizpah; namely, Ishmael, the son of Nethaniah, and Johanan and Jonathan, the sons of Kareah, and Seraiah, the son of Tanhumeth, and the sons of Ephai the Netophathite, and Jezaniah, the son of the Maachathite, they and their men;
9 Y Godolías, hijo de Ahicam, hijo de Safán, les juró a ellos y a sus gentes diciendo: “No temáis servir a los caldeos; permaneced en el país y servid al rey de Babilonia, y os irá bien.
and Gedaliah, the son of Ahikam, the son of Shaphan, swore to them and to their men, saying, “Fear not to serve the Chaldaeans; dwell in the land, and serve the king of Babylon, and it shall be well with you.
10 He aquí que yo me quedo en Masfá, para estar a disposición de los caldeos que lleguen a nosotros; vosotros, en cambio, recoged la vendimia, la mies y el aceite, y metedlos en vuestras tinajas; y habitad en las ciudades que habéis ocupado.”
As for me, behold, I will dwell at Mizpah, to stand before the Chaldaeans, who shall come to us; but ye, gather ye in wine, and summer fruits, and oil, and put them in your vessels, and dwell in your cities which ye have taken.”
11 También todos los judíos que se encontraban en Moab, entre los hijos de Ammón y en Edom, y los desparramados en todos los países, supieron que el rey de Babilonia, había dejado un resto para Judá y que les había puesto por gobernador a Godolías, hijo de Ahicam, hijo de Safán.
Also when all the Jews that were in Moab, and among the children of Ammon, and in Edom, and that were in all the countries, heard that the king of Babylon had left a remnant to Judah, and that he had set over them Gedaliah, the son of Ahikam, the son of Shaphan,
12 Entonces todos aquellos judíos, volvieron de todos los lugares adonde habían sido desplazados y vinieron al país de Judá, a Godolías, a Masfá, y recolectaron vino y frutos en abundancia.
then all the Jews returned from all the places whither they were driven, and came to the land of Judah, to Gedaliah, to Mizpah, and gathered wine and summer fruits in abundance.
13 Johanán, hijo de Caree, y todos los capitanes de las tropas dispersas por el campo, vinieron a Godolías, a Masfá,
And Johanan, the son of Kareah, and all the captains of the forces that were in the fields, came to Gedaliah, to Mizpah,
14 y le dijeron: “¿No sabes acaso que Baalís, rey de los hijos de Ammón, ha enviado a Ismael, hijo de Natanías, para quitarte la vida?” Pero Godolías, hijo de Ahicam, no les dio crédito.
and said to him, “Dost thou know that Baalis, the king of the children of Ammon, hath sent Ishmael, the son of Nethaniah, to slay thee?” But Gedaliah, the son of Ahikam, believed them not.
15 Entonces Johanán, hijo de Caree, dijo secretamente a Godolías en Masfá: “Yo iré y mataré a Ismael, hijo de Natanías, sin que nadie lo sepa. ¿Por qué ha de matarte él a ti, y han de dispersarse todos los judíos que se han congregado en torno tuyo? Sería la ruina del resto de Judá.”
And Johanan, the son of Kareah, spake to Gedaliah in private at Mizpah, saying, “Let me go, I pray thee, and smite Ishmael, the son of Nethaniah, and no man shall know it. Wherefore should he slay thee, that all the Jews which are gathered to thee should be scattered, and the remnant in Judah perish?”
16 Mas Godolías, hijo de Ahicam, respondió a Johanán, hijo de Caree: “No hagas tal cosa; porque lo que dices de Ismael es falso.”
But Gedaliah, the son of Ahikam, said to Johanan, the son of Kareah, “Thou shalt not do this thing, for thou speakest falsely of Ishmael.”
