Jeremías 1
1 Palabras de Jeremías hijo de Helcías, de los sacerdotes que habitaban en Anatot, en tierra de Benjamín;
The words of Jeremiah son of Hilkiah, —of the priests who were in Anathoth, in the land of Benjamin:
2 al cual llegó la palabra de Yahvé en los días de Josías, hijo de Amón, rey de Judá, el año decimotercero de su reinado,
unto whom came the word of Yahweh, in the days of Josiah son of Amon king of Judah, —in the thirteenth year of his reign;
3 y luego en los días de Joakim, hijo de Josías, rey de Judá, hasta el fin del año undécimo de Sedecías, hijo de Josías, rey de Judá, hasta la deportación de Jerusalén, en el mes quinto.
it came also in the days of Jehoiakim son of Josiah, king of Judah, unto the end of the eleventh year of Zedekiah son of Josiah king of Judah, —as far as the carrying away of Jerusalem captive, in the fifth month.
4 Me habló Dios en estos términos:
So then, the word of Yahweh came unto me, saying:
5 “Antes de formarte en el seno materno te conocí; y antes que salieras del seno te santifiqué; para profeta entre las naciones te he constituido.”
Before I formed thee at thy birth, I took knowledge of thee, And before thy nativity, I hallowed thee, —A prophet to the nations, I appointed thee.
6 Yo contesté: “¡Ah, Señor, Yahvé! he aquí que no sé hablar, porque soy un adolescente.”
Then said I—Ah! My Lord Yahweh! Lo! I know not how to speak, —For a child, am I!
7 Yahvé me respondió: “No digas: Soy un adolescente, sino anda a dondequiera que Yo te enviare, y habla todo cuanto Yo te dijere.
Then said Yahweh unto me, Do not say, A child, am, I,—For against whomsoever I send thee, shalt thou go, And whatsoever I command thee, shalt thou speak:
8 No tengas miedo delante de ellos, porque Yo estoy contigo para librarte” —oráculo de Yahvé.
Be not afraid of their faces, For with thee, am I, to deliver thee Declareth Yahweh.
9 Después extendió Yahvé su mano y tocando mi boca me dijo: “He aquí que pongo mis palabras en tu boca.
Then Yahweh put forth his hand, and touched my mouth, —and Yahweh said unto me, Lo! I have put my words in thy mouth.
10 Mira, Yo te pongo hoy sobre naciones, y sobre reinos, para desarraigar y derribar, para destruir y arruinar, para edificar y para plantar.”
See! I have set thee in charge this day, over the nations and over the kingdoms, To uproot and to break down, and to destroy and to tear in pieces, —To build and to plant.
11 Y me llegó la palabra de Yahvé, que dijo: “¿Qué ves Jeremías?” Respondí: “Veo una vara de almendro.”
Moreover the Word of Yahweh came unto me saying, What canst thou see Jeremiah? And I said, A twig of an almond-tree, can I see.
12 Y me dijo Yahvé: “Bien has visto; porque yo velo sobre mi palabra para cumplirla.”
Then said Yahweh unto me—Thou hast rightly seen, —for keeping watch, am I over my word to perform it.
13 Y me vino la palabra de Yahvé por segunda vez, que decía: “¿Qué ves?” Y contesté: “Veo una olla hirviente que viene de la parte del norte.”
And the word of Yahweh came unto me a second time saying, What canst thou see? And I said, A boiling caldron, can I see, with, the front thereof, on the North.
14 Entonces me dijo Yahvé: “Del norte se difundirá el mal sobre todos los habitantes del país.
Then said Yahweh unto me, —Out of the North, shall break forth calamity, against all the inhabitants of the land.
15 Pues he aquí que voy a llamar a todas las tribus de los reinos del norte, dice Yahvé, las cuales vendrán, y pondrán cada cual su trono a la entrada de las puertas de Jerusalén, y sobre sus muros todo en derredor, y sobre todas las ciudades de Judá.
For behold me! calling for all the families of the kingdoms of the North, Declareth Yahweh, —and they shall come, and set every one his throne at the opening of the gates of Jerusalem and against all her walls round about, and against all the cities of Judah!
16 Y pronunciaré contra ellos mi sentencia por todas sus maldades; por cuanto me han abandonado y quemado incienso a otros dioses, postrándose ante la obra de sus manos.
Then will I pronounce my judgments against them, concerning all their wickedness, —in that they have forsaken me and have burned incense unto other gods, and have bowed down to the works of their own hands,
17 Ciñe tus lomos, yérguete, y diles todo cuanto Yo te mandare; no les tengas miedo, no sea que Yo te confunda delante de ellos.
Thou, therefore, shalt gird thy loins, and arise, and speak unto them, all that, I, command thee, —be not dismayed because of them, lest I dismay thee before their face.
18 He aquí que hoy te pongo por ciudad fortificada, y por columna de hierro, y por muro de bronce contra toda esta tierra; contra los reyes de Judá, contra sus príncipes y sus sacerdotes, y contra el pueblo del país.
I, therefore—lo! I have set thee to-day as a fortified city, and as a pillar of iron and as walls of bronze, over all the land, —against the kings of Judah, against her princes, against her priests and against the people of the land.
19 Ellos te harán guerra, mas no prevalecerán contra ti; porque contigo estoy Yo, dice el Señor, para librarte.”
And they will fight against thee but shall not prevail against thee, —for with thee, am I, Declareth Yahweh, to deliver thee.
