Habacuc 1

1 Carga que vio Habacuc profeta.

The burden which Habakkuk the prophet saw.

2 ¿Hasta cuándo, Yahvé, he de clamar sin que Tú me escuches? ¿Hasta cuándo daré voces a Ti por la violencia sin que me salves?

O LORD, how long shall I cry, and thou wilt not hear! even cry out to thee of violence, and thou wilt not save!

3 ¿Por qué me haces ver la iniquidad y contemplas lo que sufro? Devastación y violencia están ante mis ojos; hay pleitos y surgen contiendas.

Why dost thou show me iniquity, and cause me to behold grievance? for plundering and violence are before me: and there are that raise strife and contention.

4 Por eso se embota la ley, y nunca sale sentencia justa; el inicuo rodea al justo, y así sale torcido el derecho.

Therefore the law is feeble, and judgment doth never go forth: for the wicked doth surround the righteous; therefore judgment goeth forth perverted

5 Mirad a las naciones y observad; admiraos y llenaos de espanto; pues voy a hacer una obra en vuestros días, que no creeríais si alguien la contase.

Behold ye among the heathen, and regard, and wonder marvellously: for I will work a work in your days, which ye will not believe, though it be told you.

6 Pues he aquí que suscitaré a los caldeos, ese pueblo cruel e impetuoso que recorre las anchuras de la tierra, para ocupar moradas que no son suyas.

For, lo, I raise up the Chaldeans, that bitter and hasty nation, which shall march through the breadth of the land, to possess the dwellingplaces that are not theirs.

7 Es horrible y espantoso, y crea él mismo su derecho y su grandeza.

They are terrible and dreadful: their judgment and their dignity shall proceed from themselves.

8 Sus caballos son más ligeros que el leopardo y más feroces que el lobo nocturno. Se lanza la caballería, sus jinetes llegan de lejos; vuelan cual águila que se da prisa para devorar.

Their horses also are swifter than the leopards, and are more fierce than the evening wolves: and their horsemen shall spread themselves, and their horsemen shall come from far; they shall fly as the eagle that hasteth to eat.

9 Vienen todos ellos para hacer violencia; viento abrasador va delante de ellos; toman cautivos tan numerosos como la arena.

They shall come all for violence: their faces shall sup up as the east wind, and they shall gather the captives as the sand.

10 (Es un pueblo) que se burla de los reyes, y se ríe de los príncipes; se mofa de todas las fortalezas, alza terraplenes y las toma.

And they shall scoff at the kings, and the princes shall be a scorn to them: they shall laugh at every strong hold; for they shall heap dust, and take it.

11 Luego, como el huracán, cambia de rumbo y pasa, y se acarrea culpa (imputando) su fuerza a su dios.

Then shall his mind change, and he shall pass over, and offend, imputing this his power to his god.

12 ¿No eres Tú, oh Yahvé, desde la eternidad, el Dios mío, mi Santo? No moriremos, porque Tú, Yahvé, hiciste (aquel pueblo) para ejercer tu justicia; Tú, oh Roca, le has establecido para aplicar castigos.

Art thou not from everlasting, O LORD my God, my Holy One? we shall not die. O LORD, thou hast ordained them for judgment; and, O mighty God, thou hast established them for correction.

13 Tus ojos son demasiado puros para mirar el mal, y no puedes ver la injusticia. ¿Por qué, pues, soportas a los pérfidos y callas cuando el inicuo devora al que es más justo que él?

Thou art of purer eyes than to behold evil, and canst not look on iniquity: why lookest thou on them that deal treacherously, and keepest silence when the wicked devoureth the man that is more righteous than he?

14 ¿Por qué hiciste a los hombres como los peces del mar, como los reptiles que no tienen quien los gobierne?

And makest men as the fishes of the sea, as the creeping things, that have no ruler over them?

15 A todos ellos los pesca aquel con el anzuelo; los arrastra con su red, y los reúne en su barredera; por eso se goza y está alegre.

They take up all of them with the hook, they catch them in their net, and gather them in their drag: therefore they rejoice and are glad.

16 Y por eso ofrece sacrificios a su red, e incienso a su barredera; pues gracias a ellos es pingüe su porción, y suculenta su comida.

Therefore they sacrifice to their net, and burn incense to their drag; because by them their portion is fat, and their food plenteous.

17 ¿Es posible que siga vaciando su red, y continúe destrozando sin piedad a los pueblos?

Shall they therefore empty their net, and not spare continually to slay the nations?
