Génesis 47

1 Fue, pues, José a dar parte al Faraón, diciendo: “Mi padre y mis hermanos han venido del país de Canaán, con sus ovejas y sus vacadas y todo lo que poseen, y he aquí que están en la tierra de Gosen.”

And Joseph came and told Pharao, [saying], My father, and my brethren, and their cattle, and their oxen, and all their possessions, are come out of the land of Chanaan, and behold, they are in the land of Gesem.

2 Después tomó a cinco de sus hermanos y se los presentó al Faraón.

And he took of his brethren five men, and set them before Pharao.

3 Y cuando el Faraón preguntó a sus hermanos: “¿Cuál es vuestra ocupación?”, respondieron al Faraón: “Nosotros, tus siervos, somos pastores de ganado menor, tanto nosotros como nuestros padres.”

And Pharao said to the brethren of Joseph, What is your occupation? and they said to Pharao, Thy servants are shepherds, both we and our father.

4 Y dijeron además al Faraón: “Hemos venido para morar en esta tierra; porque no hay pastos para los rebaños que tienen tus siervos, por ser grande el hambre en el país de Canaán. Permite, pues, que habiten tus siervos en la tierra de Gosen.”

And they said to Pharao, We are come to sojourn in the land, for there is no pasture for the flocks of thy servants, for the famine has prevailed in the land of Chanaan; now then, we will dwell in the land of Gesem. And Pharao said to Joseph, Let them dwell in the land of Gesem; and if thou knowest that there are among them able men, make them overseers of my cattle. So Jacob and his sons came into Egypt, to Joseph; and Pharao, king of Egypt, heard [of it].

5 Dijo entonces el Faraón a José: “Tu padre y tus hermanos han venido a ti.

And Pharao spoke to Joseph, saying, Thy father, and thy brethren, are come to thee.

6 La tierra de Egipto está a tu disposición. Da a tu padre y a tus hermanos morada en la mejor parte del país; habiten ellos en la tierra de Gosen; y si sabes que hay entre ellos hombres capaces, hazlos mayorales de mis ganados.”

Behold, the land of Egypt is before thee; settle thy father and thy brethren in the best land.

7 Luego José hizo venir a su padre Jacob y le presentó al Faraón; y Jacob bendijo al Faraón.

And Joseph brought in Jacob his father, and set him before Pharao; and Jacob blessed Pharao.

8 Cuando preguntó el Faraón a Jacob: “¿Cuántos son los días de los años de tu vida”?,

And Pharao said to Jacob, How many are the years of the days of thy life?

9 contestó Jacob al Faraón: “Los días de los años de mi peregrinación son ciento treinta años; pocos y malos han sido los días de los años de mi vida, y no llegaron a los días de los años de la vida de mis padres en los días de su peregrinación.”

And Jacob said to Pharao, The days of the years of my life, wherein I sojourn, are a hundred and thirty years; few and evil have been the days of the years of my life, they have not attained to the days of the life of my fathers, in which days they sojourned.

10 Después de haber bendecido Jacob al Faraón, salió de su presencia.

And Jacob blessed Pharao, and departed from him.

11 Según había mandado el Faraón, estableció José a su padre y a sus hermanos, asignándoles posesiones en la tierra de Egipto, en la mejor parte del país, en la comarca de Ramesés.

And Joseph settled his father and his brethren, and gave them a possession in the land of Egypt, in the best land, in the land of Ramesses, as Pharao commanded.

12 Y José proveyó de pan a su padre y a sus hermanos y a toda la casa de su padre, según el número de los hijos.

And Joseph gave provision to his father, and his brethren, and to all the house of his father, corn for each person.

13 No había pan en todo el país, porque el hambre era muy grande; la tierra de Egipto y también la tierra de Canaán estaban agotadas por el hambre.

And there was no corn in all the land, for the famine prevailed greatly; and the land of Egypt, and the land of Chanaan, fainted for the famine.

14 Entonces José recogió toda la plata que se hallaba en el país de Egipto y en el país de Canaán a cambio del trigo que ellos compraron, y llevó ese dinero al palacio del Faraón.

And Joseph gathered all the money that was found in the land of Egypt, and the land of Chanaan, [in return for] the corn which they bought, and he distributed corn to them; and Joseph brought all the money into the house of Pharao.

15 Acabado el dinero del país de Egipto y del país de Canaán, vinieron todos los egipcios a José, diciendo: “Danos pan. ¿Por qué hemos de morir en tu presencia?, pues el dinero se ha agotado.”

And all the money failed out of the land of Egypt, and out of the land of Chanaan; and all the Egyptians came to Joseph, saying, Give us bread, and why do we die in thy presence? for our money is spent.

16 Contestó José: “Entregad vuestro ganado, y os lo daré por vuestro ganado, si es que se ha acabado el dinero.”

And Joseph said to them, Bring your cattle, and I will give you bread for your cattle, if your money is spent.

17 Trajeron, pues, sus ganados a José, y José les dio pan a cambio de caballos y de rebaños de ovejas y de vacas y de asnos. Aquel año los proveyó de pan a trueque de todos sus ganados.

And they brought their cattle to Joseph; and Joseph gave them bread in return for their horses, and for their sheep, and for their oxen, and for their asses; and Joseph maintained them with bread for all their cattle in that year.

18 Pasado aquel año, vinieron a él el año siguiente y le dijeron: “No ocultaremos a nuestro señor que se ha agotado el dinero, y también los ganados pertenecen ya a nuestro señor; no nos queda nada delante de nuestro señor, salvo nuestros cuerpos y nuestras tierras.

And that year passed, and they came to him in the second year, and said to him, Must we then be consumed from before our lord? for if our money has failed, and our possessions, and our cattle, [brought] to thee our lord, and there has not been left to us before our lord more than our own bodies and our land, [we are indeed destitute].

19 ¿Por qué hemos de perecer ante tus ojos, tanto nosotros como nuestras tierras? Cómpranos a nosotros y nuestras tierras por pan, y nosotros y nuestras tierras serviremos al Faraón, y danos para sembrar; así viviremos y no moriremos, y no quedarán desolados los campos.”

In order, then, that we die not before thee, and the land be made desolate, buy us and our land for bread, and we and our land will be servants to Pharao: give seed that we may sow, and live and not die, so our land shall not be made desolate.

20 Adquirió, pues, José todo el suelo de Egipto para el Faraón; todos los egipcios vendieron cada uno su campo porque el hambre prevalecía sobre ellos. Así la tierra vino a ser propiedad del Faraón;

And Joseph bought all the land of the Egyptians, for Pharao; for the Egyptians sold their land to Pharao; for the famine prevailed against them, and the land became Pharao's.

21 el cual hizo pasar al pueblo a las ciudades, desde un extremo del territorio de Egipto hasta el otro.

And he brought the people into bondage to him, for servants, from one extremity of Egypt to the other,

22 Mas no adquirió las tierras de los sacerdotes; porque los sacerdotes percibían del Faraón una ración determinada, y comían la ración determinada que les daba el Faraón; por eso no vendieron sus tierras.

except only the land of the priests; Joseph bought not this, for Pharao gave a portion in the way of gift to the priests; and they ate their portion which Pharao gave them; therefore they sold not their land.

23 Dijo entonces José al pueblo: “Mirad, hoy os he comprado para el Faraón, a vosotros y vuestras tierras. Ahí tenéis semilla, sembrad la tierra;

And Joseph said to all the Egyptians, Behold, I have bought you and your land this day for Pharao; take seed for you, and sow the land.

24 y al tiempo de la siega, daréis la quinta parte al Faraón; las otras cuatro partes serán vuestras, para sembrar los campos, y para sustentar a vosotros y los que están en vuestras casa, y para alimento de vuestros niños.”

And there shall be the fruits of it; and ye shall give the fifth part to Pharao, and the four [remaining] parts shall be for yourselves, for seed for the earth, and for food for you, and all that are in your houses.

25 A lo cual ellos dijeron: “Nos ha dado la vida. Con tal que hallemos gracia a los ojos de mi señor, seremos siervos del Faraón.”

And they said, Thou hast saved us; we have found favour before our lord, and we will be servants to Pharao.

26 Y José puso esto por ley que vale para las tierras de Egipto hasta el día de hoy y en virtud de la cual la quinta parte es para el Faraón. Tan solo las tierras de los sacerdotes no vinieron a ser propiedad del Faraón.

And Joseph appointed it to them for an ordinance until this day; to reserve a fifth part for Pharao, on the land of Egypt, except only the land of the priests, that was not Pharao's.

27 Habitó Israel en el país de Egipto, en la región de Gosen; allí adquirieron posesiones y crecieron y se multiplicaron mucho.

And Israel dwelt in Egypt, in the land of Gesem, and they gained an inheritance upon it; and they increased and multiplied very greatly.

28 Vivió Jacob diez y siete años en la tierra de Egipto, y fueron los días de Jacob, los años de su vida, ciento cuarenta y siete años.

And Jacob survived seventeen years in the land of Egypt; and Jacob's days of the years of his life were a hundred and forty-seven years.

29 Cuando los días de Israel tocaron a su fin, llamó a José, y le dijo: “Si he hallado gracia a tus ojos, te ruego pongas tu mano debajo de mi muslo y uses conmigo de misericordia y de fidelidad: No me sepultes en Egipto.

and the days of Israel drew nigh for him to die: and he called his son Joseph, and said to him, If I have found favour before thee, put thy hand under my thigh, and thou shalt execute mercy and truth toward me, so as not to bury me in Egypt.

30 Cuando yo descansare con mis padres, me llevarás de Egipto y me sepultarás en el sepulcro de ellos.”

But I will sleep with my fathers, and thou shalt carry me up out of Egypt, and bury me in their sepulchre. And he said, I will do according to thy word.

31 “Júramelo”, dijo Jacob. Y José se lo juró, e Israel se postró sobre la cabecera de su lecho.

And he said, Swear to me; and he swore to him. And Israel did reverence, leaning on the top of his staff.
