Ezequiel 14

1 Vinieron a mí algunos varones de entre los ancianos de Israel, y se sentaron delante de mí.

Some elders of Israel arrived and sat down with me.

2 Entonces me habló Yahvé en estos términos:

A message from the Lord came to me, saying,

3 “Hijo de hombre, estos hombres se han erigido ídolos en sus corazones y han puesto ante sus ojos el escándalo de su maldad. ¿Acaso Yo me dejaré consultar por ellos?

“Son of man, these men are worshiping idols in their minds even though they know this will lead them to sin. Why should I respond to their requests?

4 Por eso, háblales, diciendo: Así dice Yahvé, el Señor: Todo hombre de la casa de Israel que se erija ídolos en su corazón y ponga ante sus ojos el escándalo de su maldad, cuando viniere al profeta, Yo, Yahvé, le responderé según la multitud de sus ídolos;

So tell them that this is what the Lord God says: When the people of Israel worship idols in their minds that will lead them to sin, and then come to consult the prophet, I the Lord will give them an answer appropriate to their many idols.

5 a fin de prender a la casa de Israel en (los deseos de) su corazón, ya que todos ellos se han apartado de Mí, para seguir sus ídolos.

Like this I might have the people of Israel decide to recommit themselves to me. Right now, because of their idols, all of them treat me as their enemy.

6 Por lo cual, habla a la casa de Israel: Así dice Yahvé, el Señor: Volveos, y convertíos de vuestros ídolos y apartad vuestro rostro de todas vuestras abominaciones.

So tell the people of Israel that this is what the Lord God says: Repent! Give up worshiping your idols Stop all your disgusting practices.

7 Porque a todo hombre de la casa de Israel y a todo extranjero que mora en Israel, que dejare de ir en pos de Mí, erigiendo para sí ídolos en su corazón y poniendo ante sus ojos el escándalo de su maldad, si viniere al profeta para consultarle acerca de Mí, Yo, Yahvé, le responderé por Mí mismo.

When the people of Israel or foreigners living with them worship idols in their minds that will lead them to sin and then come to consult the prophet, I the Lord will answer them myself.

8 Y pondré mi rostro contra ese hombre, y haré de él un espanto, para que sea una señal y un proverbio, y le exterminaré de en medio de mi pueblo; y conoceréis que Yo soy Yahvé.

I will oppose anyone who does this and make any example of them that others will talk about. I will remove them from among my people. Then you will know that I am the Lord.

9 Y si el profeta se deja inducir al error y habla, soy Yo, Yahvé quien engañaré a tal profeta; y extenderé mi mano contra él y le exterminaré de en medio de Israel, mi pueblo.

But if the prophet is deceived into giving a message, it was I the Lord who deceived him to do this. I will still reach out and destroy that prophet from my people Israel.

10 Así llevarán (la pena) de su iniquidad. Como la iniquidad del que pregunta, así será la iniquidad del profeta,

They will be responsible for the punishment they receive, as will those who believe in these prophets will receive the same punishment.

11 a fin de que en adelante no se desvíe de Mí la casa de Israel ni se contamine más con todos sus pecados. Entonces serán mi pueblo, y Yo seré su Dios”, dice Yahvé, el Señor.

This is so that the people of Israel won't abandon me anymore and won't make themselves unclean with all their sins. Then they will be my people and I will be their God, declares the Lord God.”

12 Me llegó la palabra de Yahvé, diciendo:

A message from the Lord came to me again, saying,

13 “Hijo de hombre, cuando un país pecare contra Mí, cometiendo infidelidad, y Yo extendiere contra él mi brazo, quebrando el báculo de su pan, enviándole hambre y matándole hombres y bestias;

“Son of man, if a people in a country sin against me by being unfaithful to me, then I will act against them by cutting off their food supply, so they experience famine, with no food for people or animals.

14 aunque se hallasen en él estos tres varones: Noé, Daniel y Job, tan solo ellos, por su justicia, salvarían su vida, dice Yahvé, el Señor.

Even if Noah, Daniel, and Job, these three men, were present their good lives would only save themselves, declares the Lord God.

15 Si yo hiciere pasar bestias feroces por ese país para devastarlo, de modo que venga a ser un desierto intransitable, a causa de las fieras,

I could send wild animals rampaging through the country, so they would leave it uninhabited and desolate, a place no one would travel through for fear of such animals.

16 si estos tres varones estuvieran allí, por mi vida, dice Yahvé, el Señor, no podrían librar ni a hijos ni a hijas; ellos solos se librarían, y el país quedaría desolado.

As I live, declares the Lord God, even if these three men were present, they couldn't save their own sons or daughters. They would only save themselves, but the land would be left desolate.

17 O si Yo enviando la espada contra aquel país dijere: “¡Espada, pasa por ese país, para que le mate hombres y bestias!”

I could bring war to that country and say, ‘Have a sword cut through it,’ so that I destroy both people and animals.

18 Si estos tres varones estuvieran allí, por mi vida, dice Yahvé, el Señor, no podrían librar ni a hijos ni a hijas, sino que tan solo ellos mismos se salvarían.

As I live, declares the Lord God, even if these three men were present, they couldn't save their own sons or daughters. They would only save themselves.

19 O si Yo mandare contra aquel país la peste, para derramar sobre él mi ira con sangre, y exterminar del mismo, hombres y bestias,

I could send a disease on that country and because of my anger I would kill many, both people and animals.

20 si Noé, Daniel y Job estuvieran entre ellos, por mi vida, dice Yahvé, el Señor, con toda su justicia no podrían salvar ni a hijo ni a hija; salvarían tan solo la propia vida.

As I live, declares the Lord God, even if Noah, Daniel, and Job were present, they couldn't save their sons or daughters. Their good lives would only save themselves.

21 Pues así dice Yahvé, el Señor: ¿Cuánto más (perecerá) Jerusalén si Yo enviare contra ella mis cuatro azotes terribles (juntamente): la espada, el hambre, los animales feroces y la peste, para exterminar allí hombres y bestias?

This is what the Lord God says: It will be so much worse when I send my four severe judgments against Jerusalem—war, famine, wild animals, and disease, so that both people and animals are killed!

22 Sin embargo quedará en ella un resto que escapará, que saldrá con hijos e hijas. He aquí que vendrán a vosotros; y veréis sus caminos y sus obras; y comprenderéis el mal que habré hecho venir sobre Jerusalén; de todo lo que habré traído sobre ella.

Even so a few of them will survive, some sons and daughters who will be taken captive. They will be brought to you in Babylon, and when you realize what they did and how they acted, you will understand why I had to bring such a disaster down on Jerusalem—everything I did to it.

23 Lo comprenderéis, cuando viereis su camino y sus obras; y conoceréis que no sin razón hice lo que hice en ella”, dice Yahvé, el Señor.

Realizing what they did and how they acted will help you to see that I had good reasons to do everything I did to Jerusalem, declares the Lord God.”
