Ester 3

1 Después de esto, el rey ensalzó a Amán, hijo de Hamedata, agagita. Lo ensalzó y puso su silla sobre la de todos los príncipes que tenía.

2 Por lo cual todos los siervos del rey que estaban a la puerta del rey, doblaban la rodilla y se postraban ante Amán; porque así lo había mandado el rey acerca de él. Solo Mardoqueo no doblaba la rodilla ni se postraba.

3 Por lo cual los siervos del rey que estaban a la puerta del rey, dijeron a Mardoqueo: “¿Por qué traspasas la orden del rey?”

4 Así le hablaban todos los días sin que él les hiciese caso. Al fin informaron a Amán para ver si Mardoqueo persistía en su resolución; porque les había dicho que era judío.

5 Cuando vio Amán que Mardoqueo no doblaba la rodilla ni se postraba ante él, se llenó de cólera;

6 más reputando por nada alargar su mano solo contra Mardoqueo, de cuya nacionalidad le habían informado, procuró exterminar al pueblo de Mardoqueo, a todos los judíos que había en el reino entero de Asuero.

7 En el mes primero, que es el mes de Nisán, el año duodécimo del rey Asuero, se echó el “pur”, es decir, la suerte delante de Amán, para cada día y cada mes, (y salió) el mes duodécimo, que es el mes de Adar.

8 Entonces dijo Amán al rey Asuero: “Hay un pueblo esparcido que vive disperso entre los pueblos de todas las provincias de tu reino. Sus leyes son diferentes de las de todos los pueblos, y no cumplen ellos las leyes del rey. No le conviene al rey tolerarlos.

9 Si al rey le parece bien escríbase (una orden) según la cual sean destruidos; y yo pagaré diez mil talentos de plata en manos de los administradores de la hacienda, para que los entreguen a la tesorería del rey.”

10 Con esto el rey quitó de su mano su anillo de sellar, y lo dio a Amán, hijo de Hamedata, agagita, enemigo de los judíos.

11 Y dijo el rey a Amán: “La plata sea para ti y en cuanto al pueblo, haz con él lo que mejor te parezca.”

12 Fueron llamados los secretarios del rey en el mes primero, el día trece del mismo; y conforme a todas las órdenes de Amán se escribió a los sátrapas del rey, a los gobernadores que había en cada provincia, y a los príncipes de cada pueblo; a cada provincia en su escritura y a cada pueblo en su lenguaje. Se escribió las cartas en nombre del rey Asuero, y fueron selladas con el anillo del rey.

13 Las cartas se enviaron por medio de correos a todas las provincias del rey, mandando destruir, matar y exterminar a todos los judíos, jóvenes y viejos, niños y mujeres, en un mismo día, el trece del mes duodécimo, que es el mes de Adar, y saquear sus bienes.

14 Una copia del escrito que había de publicarse como edicto en cada provincia, fue notificada a todos los pueblos, a fin de que estuvieran preparados para aquel día.

15 Los correos salieron a toda prisa, cumpliendo la orden del rey. Cuando el edicto se publicó en Susa, la capital, el rey y Amán se sentaron a beber, en tanto que la ciudad de Susa estaba consternada.
