Eclesiastés 8
1 ¿Quién como el sabio? ¿Quién sabe explicar las cosas? La sabiduría da brillo al rostro del hombre, y se muda la aspereza de su semblante.
Who is as the wise man? and who knoweth the interpretation of a thing? the wisedome of a man doth make his face to shine: and the strength of his face shalbe changed.
2 Yo (digo): Guarda el mandato del rey, a causa del juramento hecho a Dios.
I aduertise thee to take heede to ye mouth of the King, and to the worde of the othe of God.
3 No te retires a la ligera de su presencia, ni te obstines en cosa mala; porque lo que quiere, eso lo hace.
Haste not to goe forth of his sight: stand not in an euill thing: for he will doe whatsoeuer pleaseth him.
4 Pues la palabra del rey es poderosa, y quién le dirá: “¿Qué es lo que haces?”
Where the word of ye King is, there is power, and who shall say vnto him, What doest thou?
5 El que guarda el mandato no experimentará mal alguno; el corazón del sabio conoce el tiempo y lo que conviene.
He that keepeth the commandement, shall knowe none euill thing, and the heart of the wise shall knowe the time and iudgement.
6 Pues cada cosa tiene su tiempo y su manera, porque es grande el mal que gravita sobre el hombre,
For to euery purpose there is a time and iudgement, because the miserie of man is great vpon him.
7 ya que ignora lo que ha de venir; y ¿quién le manifestará el modo de su realización?
For he knoweth not that which shalbe: for who can tell him when it shalbe?
8 El hombre no es dueño de su aliento para retenerlo, ni tiene poder sobre el día de la muerte. No hay tregua en este combate, y la impiedad no podrá librar a los que la sirven.
Man is not lorde ouer the spirit to retaine the spirite: neither hath hee power in the day of death, nor deliuerance in the battell, neither shall wickednesse deliuer the possessers thereof.
9 Todas estas cosas he visto, fijando mi atención sobre cuanto pasa debajo del sol. Hay tiempos en que el hombre domina al hombre para arruinarlo.
All this haue I seene, and haue giuen mine heart to euery worke, which is wrought vnder the sunne, and I sawe a time that man ruleth ouer man to his owne hurt.
10 También he visto a impíos que recibieron sepultura y entraron (en el reposo), mientras los que frecuentaban el lugar santo son olvidados en la ciudad donde habían obrado rectamente. También esto es vanidad.
And likewise I sawe the wicked buried, and they returned, and they that came from the holy place, were yet forgotten in the citie where they had done right: this also is vanitie.
11 Por cuanto la sentencia contra el mal obrar no se ejecuta prontamente, por eso el corazón de los hijos de los hombres se anima a hacer el mal.
Because sentence against an euill worke is not executed speedily, therefore the heart of the children of men is fully set in them to doe euill.
12 Pero aunque el pecador centuplique sus malas obras y prolongue (sus días), sin embargo sé yo que les irá bien a quienes temen a Dios, a los que temen en su presencia.
Though a sinner doe euill an hundreth times, and God prolongeth his dayes, yet I knowe that it shalbe well with them that feare the Lord, and doe reuerence before him.
13 A los impíos, empero, no les irá bien; no prolongarán sus días, (serán) como la sombra, porque no temen la faz del Señor.
But it shall not be well to the wicked, neither shall he prolong his dayes: he shall be like a shadowe, because he feareth not before God.
14 (Otra) vanidad existe sobre la tierra: hay justos que padecen lo que corresponde a las obras de los impíos; e impíos que cobran como corresponde a las obras de los justos. Y dije: también esto es vanidad.
There is a vanitie, which is done vpon the earth, that there be righteous men to whom it commeth according to the worke of the wicked: and there be wicked men to whom it commeth according to the worke of the iust: I thought also that this is vanitie.
15 Por eso ensalcé la alegría, puesto que el hombre no tiene otra ventura bajo el sol que comer, beber y alegrarse. Esto es lo que queda de su trabajo en los días de su vida que Dios le concede bajo el sol.
And I praysed ioy: for there is no goodnesse to man vnder the sunne, saue to eate and to drinke and to reioyce: for this is adioyned to his labour, the dayes of his life that God hath giuen him vnder the sunne.
16 Así apliqué mi corazón a conocer la sabiduría, y a examinar el trabajo que los hombres hacen sobre la tierra; porque hay ojos que ni de noche ni de día ven el sueño.
When I applied mine heart to knowe wisedome, and to behold the busines that is done on earth, that neither day nor night the eyes of man take sleepe,
17 Y vi toda la obra de Dios (y comprendí) que el hombre no puede entender cuanto se hace debajo del sol. Por mucho que se afane el hombre en buscar, nada descubrirá; y aun cuando el sabio afirmare saberlo, nada podrá hallar.
Then I behelde the whole worke of God, that man cannot finde out ye worke that is wrought vnder the sunne: for the which man laboureth to seeke it, and cannot finde it: yea, and though the wise man thinke to knowe it, he cannot finde it.
