Deuteronomio 7
1 Cuando Yahvé, tu Dios, te haya introducido en la tierra adónde vas para poseerla, y haya echado de delante de ti a muchos pueblos: a los heteos, gergeseos, amorreos, cananeos, fereceos, heveos y jebuseos, siete pueblos más grandes y más fuertes que tú;
When the Lord thy God shall have brought thee into the land, which thou art going in to possess, and shall have destroyed many nations before thee, the Hethite, and the Gergezite, and the Amorrhite, and the Chanaanite, and the Pherezite, and the Hevite, and the Jebusite, seven nations much more numerous than thou art, and stronger than thou:
2 y cuando Yahvé, tu Dios, los haya puesto en tu mano y tú los hayas derrotado, los destruirás por completo; no pactarás con ellos, ni les tendrás compasión.
And the Lord thy God shall have delivered them to thee, thou shalt utterly destroy them. Thou shalt make no league with them, nor shew mercy to them:
3 No contraerás matrimonio con ellos; no darás tu hija a su hijo, ni tomarás su hija para tu hijo;
Neither shalt thou make marriages with them. Thou shalt not give thy daughter to his son, nor take his daughter for thy son:
4 porque ella apartará de Mí a tu hijo, para que sirva a otros dioses, con lo que Yahvé se irritará contra vosotros y acabará contigo muy pronto.
For she will turn away thy son from following me, that he may rather serve strange gods, and the wrath of the Lord will be kindled, and will quickly destroy thee.
5 Por el contrario, así habéis de hacer con ellos: derribaréis sus altares, quebraréis sus piedras de culto, cortaréis sus ascheras y quemaréis sus imágenes talladas.
But thus rather shall you deal with them: Destroy their altars, and break their statues, and cut down their groves, and burn their graven things.
6 Porque tú eres un pueblo santo para Yahvé, tu Dios; a ti te escogió Yahvé, tu Dios, para que seas pueblo peculiar suyo entre todos los pueblos que hay sobre la faz de la tierra.
Because thou art a holy people to the Lord thy God. The Lord thy God hath chosen thee, to be his peculiar people of all peoples that are upon the earth.
7 No por ser vosotros más numerosos que los otros pueblos, se ha prendado dé vosotros Yahvé y os ha escogido —pues sois el más pequeño de todos los pueblos—,
Not because you surpass all nations in number, is the Lord joined unto you, and hath chosen you, for you are the fewest of any people:
8 sino por el amor que Yahvé tenía hacia vosotros, y para guardar el juramento que había hecho a vuestros padres, os ha sacado con mano fuerte, rescatándoos de la casa de la servidumbre, de la mano del Faraón, rey de Egipto.
But because the Lord hath loved you, and hath kept his oath, which he swore to your fathers: and hath brought you out with a strong hand, and redeemed you from the house of bondage, out of the hand of Pharao the king of Egypt.
9 Por dónde has de conocer que Yahvé, tu Dios, es el Dios (verdadero), el Dios fiel, que guarda la alianza y la misericordia hasta mil generaciones para con los que le aman y cumplen sus mandamientos;
And thou shalt know that the Lord thy God, he is a strong and faithful God, keeping his covenant and mercy to them that love him, and to them that keep his commandments, unto a thousand generations:
10 pero a quien le odia le da el pago en su misma cara, destruyéndolo. No tardará; a aquel que le odia, le dará su merecido en persona.
And repaying forthwith them that hate him, so as to destroy them, without further delay immediately rendering to them what they deserve.
11 Guarda, pues, los mandamientos, las leyes y los preceptos que Yo te mando hoy, para ponerlos en práctica.
Keep therefore the precepts and ceremonies and judgments, which I command thee this day to do.
12 Si escucháis estos preceptos y los guardáis y ponéis en práctica, también Yahvé, tu Dios, te guardará la alianza y la misericordia que juro a tus padres.
If after thou hast heard these judgments, thou keep and do them, the Lord thy God will also keep his covenant to thee, and the mercy which he swore to thy fathers:
13 Te amará, te bendecirá y te multiplicará; bendecirá el fruto de tu seno y el fruto de tu tierra, tu trigo, tu vino y tu aceite, las crías de tus vacadas y las crías de tus rebaños sobre la tierra que juró a tus padres que te daría.
And he will love thee and multiply thee, and will bless the fruit of thy womb, and the fruit of thy land, thy corn, and thy vintage, thy oil, and thy herds, and the flocks of thy sheep upon the land, for which he swore to thy fathers that he would give it thee.
14 Serás bendito más que todos los pueblos; no habrá varón ni mujer estéril en medio de ti, ni tampoco entre tus ganados.
Blessed shalt thou be among all people. No one shall be barren among you of either sex, neither of men nor cattle.
15 Desterrará Yahvé de ti toda enfermedad, y no descargará sobre ti ninguna de las enfermedades malignas de Egipto, que tú conoces; no las enviará contra ti, sino que las descargará sobre todos los que te odian.
The Lord will take away from thee all sickness: and the grievous infirmities of Egypt, which thou knowest, he will not bring upon thee, but upon thy enemies.
16 Devorarás a todos los pueblos que Yahvé, tu Dios, te va a entregar; no los perdonará tu ojo, ni sirvas a sus dioses; pues esto sería para ti un lazo.
Thou shalt consume all the people, which the Lord thy God will deliver to thee. Thy eye shall not spare them, neither shalt thou serve their gods, lest they be thy ruin.
17 Acaso dirás en tu corazón: ‘Estos pueblos son más numerosos que yo, ¿cómo podré arrojarlos?’
If thou say in thy heart: These nations are more than I, how shall I be able to destroy them?
18 No los temas; acuérdate bien de lo que hizo Yahvé, tu Dios, con el Faraón y con todo Egipto,
Fear not, but remember what the Lord thy God did to Pharao and to all the Egyptians,
19 y de las grandes pruebas que vieron tus ojos, de las señales, las maravillas, la mano fuerte y el brazo extendido con que te sacó Yahvé, el Dios tuyo. Del mismo modo hará Yahvé, tu Dios, con todos los pueblos a los cuales tú temes.
The exceeding great plagues, which thy eyes saw, and the signs and wonders, and the strong hand, and the stretched out arm, with which the Lord thy God brought thee out: so will he do to all the people, whom thou fearest.
20 Aun avispones enviará Yahvé, tu Dios, contra ellos, hasta que perezcan los restantes y los que se hayan escondido de tu presencia.
Moreover the Lord thy God will send also hornets among them, until he destroy and consume all that have escaped thee, and could hide themselves.
21 No los temas, pues en medio de ti está Yahvé, tu Dios, el Dios grande y terrible.
Thou shalt not fear them, because the Lord thy God is in the midst of thee, a God mighty and terrible:
22 Yahvé, tu Dios, expulsará estos pueblos delante de ti poco a poco; no podrás acabar con ellos de golpe, no sea que se multipliquen contra ti las fieras del campo.
He will consume these nations in thy sight by little and little and by degrees. Thou wilt not be able to destroy them altogether: lest perhaps the beasts of the earth should increase upon thee.
23 Yahvé, tu Dios, los pondrá en tu poder y los llenará de gran consternación, hasta que sean exterminados.
But the Lord thy God shall deliver them in thy sight: and shall slay them until they be utterly destroyed.
24 Él entregará sus reyes en tu mano, y tú borrarás sus nombres de debajo del cielo. Nadie podrá resistirte, hasta que los hayas destruido.
And he shall deliver their kings into thy hands, and thou shalt destroy their names from under Heaven: no man shall be able to resist thee, until thou destroy them.
25 Entregarás al fuego las estatuas de sus dioses. No codicies la plata y el oro que hubiere sobre ellas, ni lo tomarás para ti, no sea que te sirva para ruina; porque es abominación para Yahvé, tu Dios.
Their graven things thou shalt burn with fire: thou shalt not covet the silver and gold of which they are made, neither shalt thou take to thee any thing thereof, lest thou offend, because it is an abomination to the Lord thy God.
26 No lleves tal abominación a tu casa, para no ser anatema como lo es ella. Detéstala y abomínala en extremo, por cuanto es anatema.
Neither shalt thou bring any thing of the idol into thy house, lest thou become an anathema, like it. Thou shalt detest it as dung, and shalt utterly abhor it as uncleanness and filth, because it is an anathema.
