Deuteronomio 6

1 Este es el mandamiento, estas son las leyes y los preceptos que Yahvé, vuestro Dios, mandó que se os enseñase, para que los pongáis por obra en la tierra adonde pasáis para tomarla en posesión,

This, then is the commandment—[namely] the statutes and the regulations, which Yahweh your God hath commanded to teach you, —that ye may do them in the land whither ye are passing over to possess it:

2 a fin de que temas a Yahvé, tu Dios, de modo que observes todas sus leyes y mandamientos que yo te ordeno: tú, y tu hijo, y el hijo de tu hijo, todos los días de tu vida; y para que vivas muchos días.

that thou mayest revere Yahweh thy God, [so as] to keep all his statutes and his commandments which I am commanding thee, thou and thy son and thy sons’ son, all the days of thy life, —and that thy days may be prolonged.

3 Escucha, oh Israel, y pon cuidado en cumplirlos, a fin de que te vaya bien, y crezcáis más y más, según la promesa que te ha hecho Yahvé, el Dios de tus padres, de darte una tierra que mana leche y miel.

Therefore shalt thou hear, O Israel, and shalt observe to do, that it may be well with thee, and that ye may multiply greatly, as Yahweh the God of thy fathers hath spoken to thee, in a land flowing with milk and honey.

4 Oye, Israel: Yahvé, nuestro Dios, Yahvé es uno solo.

Hear, O Israel: Yahweh, is our God, —Yahweh alone.

5 Amarás a Yahvé, tu Dios, con todo tu corazón, con toda tu alma y con todas tus fuerzas.

Thou shalt therefore love Yahweh thy God, —with all thy heart and with all thy soul, and with all thy might;

6 Y estas palabras que hoy te ordeno estarán sobre tu corazón.

so shall these words which I am commanding thee to-day, be upon thy heart;

7 Las inculcarás a tus hijos, y hablarás de ellas, ora estando en tu casa, ora viajando, cuando te acuestes y cuando te levantes.

and thou shalt impress them upon thy sons, and shalt speak of them, —when thou sittest in thy house and when thou walkest by the way, and when thou liest down and when thou risest up;

8 Las atarás para recuerdo a tu mano y te servirán como frontales entre tus ojos;

and thou shalt bind them for a sign upon thy hand, —and they shall serve for bands between thine eyes;

9 y las escribirás en los postes de tu casa y en tus puertas.

and thou shalt write them upon the posts of thy house and within thy gates.

10 Cuando Yahvé, tu Dios, te haya introducido en la tierra que juró a tus padres, a Abrahán, a Isaac y a Jacob, que te daría: ciudades grandes y espléndidas que tú no has edificado,

So shall it be, when Yahweh thy God shall bring thee into the land, which he sware to thy fathers—to Abraham to Isaac and to Jacob to give unto thee, —into cities great and goodly, which thou didst not build;

11 casas llenas de toda suerte de bienes que tú no acumulaste, cisternas excavadas que tú no excavaste, viñas y olivares que no plantaste; y cuando comieres y te hartares,

and houses full of all good things, which thou filledst not, and hewn cisterns which thou hewedst not, vineyards and oliveyards which thou plantedst not, —and shalt eat and be full,

12 guárdate entonces de olvidarte de Yahvé que te sacó de la tierra de Egipto, de la casa de la servidumbre.

take heed unto thyself, lest thou forget Yahweh, —who brought thee forth out of the land of Egypt out of the house of servants.

13 A Yahvé, tu Dios, temerás, a Él (solo) servirás, y por su nombre jurarás.

Yahweh thy God, shalt thou revere And him, shalt thou serve, —And by his name, shalt thou swear.

14 No os vayáis tras otros dioses, tras ninguno de los dioses de las naciones que os rodean;

Ye shall not go after other gods, —of the gods of the peoples who are surrounding you;

15 porque Yahvé, tu Dios, que habita en medio de ti, es un Dios celoso; no sea que la ira de Yahvé se encienda contra ti y te extermine de sobre la faz de la tierra.

for a jealous GOD, is Yahweh thy God in thy midst, —lest the anger of Yahweh thy God kindle upon thee, and so he destroy thee from off the face of the ground.

16 No tentéis a Yahvé, vuestro Dios, como le tentasteis en Masá.

Ye shall not put Yahweh your God to the proof, —as ye put him to the proof in Massah [that is, "The place of proving"].

17 Observad fielmente los mandamientos de Yahvé, Dios vuestro, sus testimonios y preceptos que Él te ha prescrito.

Ye shall, keep, the commandments of Yahweh your God and his testimonies and his statutes which he hath commanded thee;

18 Haz lo que es bueno y recto a los ojos de Yahvé, para que te vaya bien y entres a poseer aquella excelente tierra que Yahvé prometió bajo juramento dar a tus padres,

so shalt thou do what is right and what is pleasing in the eyes of Yahweh, —that it may be well with thee, and thou mayest enter in and possess the good land, which Yahweh sware unto thy fathers;

19 cuando arroje, según su promesa, a todos tus enemigos que se te presenten.

to thrust out all thine enemies from before thee, —As spake Yahweh.

20 Cuando el día de mañana te preguntare tu hijo diciendo: ¿Qué son estos testimonios, estas leyes y preceptos que Yahvé, nuestro Dios, os ha mandado?

When thy son shall ask thee in time to come, saying, —What mean the testimonies and the statutes and the regulations, which Yahweh our God commanded you?

21 Responderás a tu hijo: ‘Éramos esclavos del Faraón en Egipto, y Yahvé nos sacó de Egipto con mano potente.

Then shalt thou say unto thy son, Servants, were we unto Pharaoh in Egypt, —and Yahweh brought us forth out of Egypt with a firm hand;

22 Yahvé hizo a nuestra vista señales y prodigios grandes y terribles contra Egipto, contra el Faraón y contra toda su casa;

and Yahweh put forth signs and wonders great and sore upon Egypt upon Pharaoh and upon all his household before our eyes;

23 mas a nosotros nos sacó de allí, conduciéndonos, a fin de darnos esta tierra que había prometido con juramento a nuestros padres.

but he brought us forth from thence, —that he might bring us in, to give unto us the land, which he sware unto our fathers.

24 Y nos mandó cumplir todas estas leyes y temer a Yahvé, nuestro Dios, para que seamos felices todos los días, y para que Él nos dé vida, como ha hecho hasta ahora.

So then Yahweh commanded us to do all these statutes, to revere Yahweh our God, —for our good, all the days, to preserve us alive (as at this day);

25 Será nuestro deber cumplir fielmente todos estos mandamientos ante Yahvé, nuestro Dios, como Él nos ha mandado.’

and righteousness, shall it be to us, —when we take heed to do all this commandment, before Yahweh our God, as he commanded us.
