Deuteronomio 5
1 Moisés convocó a todo Israel y le dijo: “Oye, Israel, las leyes y los preceptos que hoy intimo a vuestros oídos, aprendedlos y guardadlos para ponerlos en práctica.
And Moses called all Israel, and said to them, Hear, Israel, the ordinances and judgements, all that I speak in your ears this day, and you shall learn them, and observe to do them.
2 Yahvé, nuestro Dios, hizo con nosotros alianza en el Horeb.
The Lord your God made a covenant with you in Choreb.
3 No con nuestros padres hizo Yahvé esta alianza, sino con nosotros, que hoy todos estamos aquí y todavía vivimos.
The Lord did not make this covenant with your fathers, but with you: you are all here alive this day.
4 Cara a cara habló Yahvé con vosotros en el monte, desde en medio del fuego,
The Lord spoke to you face to face in the mountain out of the midst of the fire.
5 —yo estaba entonces entre Yahvé y vosotros, para comunicaros la palabra de Yahvé; porque teníais miedo del fuego y no subisteis al monte— Dijo así:
And I stood between the Lord and you at that time to report to you the words of the Lord, (because you were afraid before the fire, and you went not up to the mountain) saying,
6 ‘Yo soy Yahvé, tu Dios, que te saqué de la tierra de Egipto, de la casa de la servidumbre.
I am the Lord your God, who brought you out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of bondage.
7 No tendrás otros dioses delante de Mí.
You shall have no other gods before my face.
8 No te harás estatua o imagen alguna de cuanto hay arriba en el cielo, ni de cuanto hay abajo en la tierra, ni de lo que se halla en las aguas debajo de la tierra;
You shall not make to yourself an image, nor likeness of any thing, whatever things [are] in the heaven above, and whatever [are] in the earth beneath, and whatever [are] in the waters under the earth.
9 no las adorarás ni les darás culto, porque Yo, Yahvé, tu Dios, soy un Dios celoso, que castigo la iniquidad de los padres en los hijos, hasta la tercera y cuarta generación de los que me aborrecen,
You shall not bow down to them, nor shall you serve them; for I am the Lord your God, a jealous God, visiting the sins of the fathers upon the children to the third and fourth generation to them that hate me,
10 y que uso de misericordia hasta mil generaciones de los que me aman y guardan mis mandamientos.
and doing mercifully to thousands of them that love me, and that keep my commandments.
11 No tomarás en vano el nombre de Yahvé, tu Dios, porque Yahvé no dejará impune al que tomare su nombre en vano.
You shall not take the name of the Lord your God in vain, for the Lord your God will certainly not acquit him that takes his name in vain.
12 Guarda el día de sábado para santificarlo, como te lo ha mandado Yahvé, tu Dios.
Keep the sabbath day to sanctify it, as the Lord your God commanded you.
13 Seis días trabajarás, y harás todo tu trabajo;
Six days you shall work, and you shall do all your works;
14 mas el día séptimo es día de descanso consagrado a Yahvé, tu Dios, no hagas trabajo alguno, ni tú, ni tu hijo, ni tu hija, ni tu siervo, ni tu sierva, ni tu buey, ni tu asno, ni ninguna bestia tuya, ni el extranjero que mora dentro de tus puertas para que descanse tu siervo y tu sierva como tú.
but on the seventh day [is] the sabbath of the Lord your God: you shall do in it no work, you, and your son, and your daughter, your man-servant, and your maidservant, your ox, and your ass, and all your cattle, and the stranger that sojourns in the midst of you; that your man-servant may rest, and your maid, and your ox, as well as you.
15 Acuérdate de que fuiste siervo en el país de Egipto y que Yahvé, tu Dios, te sacó de allí con mano fuerte y con brazo extendido; por eso Yahvé, tu Dios, te ha mandado guardar el día de sábado.
And you shall remember that you were a slave in the land of Egypt, and the Lord your God brought you out thence with a mighty hand, and a high arm: therefore the Lord appointed you to keep the sabbath day and to sanctify it.
16 Honra a tu padre y a tu madre, como te ha mandado Yahvé, tu Dios, para que vivas largo tiempo y te vaya bien sobre la tierra que Yahvé, tu Dios, te va a dar.
Honour your father and your mother, as the Lord your God commanded you; that it may be well with you, and that you may live long upon the land, which the Lord your God gives you.
17 No matarás.
You shall not commit murder.
18 No cometerás adulterio.
You shall not commit adultery.
19 No hurtarás.
You shall not steal.
20 No dirás falso testimonio contra tu prójimo.
You shall not bear false witness against your neighbour.
21 No codiciarás la mujer de tu prójimo, ni desearás la casa de tu prójimo, ni su campo, ni su siervo, ni su sierva, ni su buey, ni su asno, ni cosa alguna que sea de tu prójimo.’
You shall not covet your neighbour's wife; you shall not covet your neighbour's house, nor his field, nor his man-servant, nor his maid, nor his ox, nor his ass, nor any beast of his, nor any thing that is your neighbour's.
22 Estas son las palabras que Yahvé, con poderosa voz, dirigió a toda vuestra asamblea en el monte, desde el fuego, la nube y las tinieblas; y no añadió más. Las escribió sobre dos tablas de piedra, las cuales Él me entregó.
These words the Lord spoke to all the assembly of you in the mountain out of the midst of the fire—[there was] darkness, blackness, storm, a loud voice—and he added no more, and he wrote them on two tables of stone, and he gave them to me.
23 Mas vosotros, cuando oísteis la voz de en medio de las tinieblas, mientras el monte estaba en llamas, os acercasteis a mí, todos los jefes de las tribus y vuestros ancianos,
And it came to pass when you heard the voice out of the midst of the fire, for the mountain burnt with fire, that you came to me, even all the heads of your tribes, and your elders:
24 y me dijisteis: ‘Mira, Yahvé, nuestro Dios, nos ha manifestado su gloria y su grandeza, y hemos oído su voz de en medio del fuego. Hoy hemos visto a Dios hablar con el hombre, sin que este haya perdido la vida.
and you said, Behold, the Lord our God has shown us his glory, and we have heard his voice out of the midst of the fire: this day we have seen that God shall speak to man, and he shall live.
25 Ahora, pues, ¿por qué hemos de morir devorados por este gran fuego? Pues si seguimos oyendo la voz de Yahvé, nuestro Dios, moriremos.
And now let us not die, for this great fire will consume us, if we shall hear the voice of the Lord our God any more, and we shall die.
26 Porque ¿quién de todos los hombres ha oído la voz de Dios vivo hablando de en medio del fuego, como nosotros, y no ha perdido la vida?
For what flesh [is there] which has heard the voice of the living God, speaking out of the midst of the fire, as we [have heard], and shall live?
27 Acércate tú, y oye todo lo que dijere Yahvé, nuestro Dios; y tú nos comunicarás todo cuanto Yahvé, nuestro Dios, te indique, y nosotros lo oiremos y cumpliremos.’
Do you draw near, and hear all that the Lord our God shall say, and you shall speak to us all things whatever the Lord our God shall speak to you, and we will hear, and do.
28 Oyó Yahvé la voz de vuestras palabras cuando me hablabais, y dijo Yahvé: ‘He oído el son de las palabras que este pueblo te ha dicho; está bien todo lo que dicen.
And the Lord heard the voice of your words as you spoke to me; and the Lord said to me, I have heard the voice of the words of this people, even all things that they have said to you. [They have] well [said] all that they have spoken.
29 ¡Ojalá que siempre tengan este sentir, para que me teman y guarden en todo tiempo todos mis mandamientos, a fin de que sean felices ellos y sus hijos para siempre!
O that there were such a heart in them, that they should fear me and keep my commands always, that it might be well with them and with their sons for ever.
30 Anda y diles: Retiraos a vuestras tiendas.
Go, say to them, Return you to your houses;
31 Pero tú quédate aquí conmigo, y Yo te diré todos los mandamientos, leyes y preceptos que les has de enseñar, para que los pongan por obra en la tierra que les voy a dar en herencia.’
but stand you here with me, and I will tell you all the commands, and the ordinances, and the judgements, which you shall teach them, and let them do so in the land which I give them for an inheritance.
32 Poned, pues, cuidado en cumplir lo que Yahvé, vuestro Dios, os ha mandado. No declinéis ni a la diestra ni a la izquierda.
And you shall take heed to do as the Lord your God commanded you; you shall not turn aside to the right hand or to the left,
33 Seguid en todo el camino que Yahvé, vuestro Dios, os ha mandado, para que viváis y prosperéis y tengáis larga vida en la tierra que vais a heredar.
according to all the way which the Lord your God commanded you to walk in it, that he may give you rest; and that it may be well with you, and you may prolong your days on the land which you shall inherit.
