Amós 5

1 Escuchad estas palabras que profiero como lamentación sobre vosotros, oh casa de Israel:

Hear ye this word which I take up against you, [even] a lamentation, O house of Israel.

2 Cayó, no volverá a levantarse más la virgen de Israel; echada ha sido sobre su tierra, no hay quien la levante.

The virgin of Israel is fallen; she shall no more rise: she is forsaken upon her land; [there is] none to raise her up.

3 Porque así dice Yahvé, el Señor: “La ciudad que mandaba a la guerra mil hombres, quedará reducida a cien, y la que mandaba cien, se quedará con diez en la casa de Israel.”

For thus saith the Lord GOD; The city that went out [by] a thousand shall leave an hundred, and that which went forth [by] an hundred shall leave ten, to the house of Israel.

4 Porque así dice Yahvé a la casa de Israel: “¡Buscadme y viviréis!

For thus saith the LORD unto the house of Israel, Seek ye me, and ye shall live:

5 No busquéis a Betel, ni vayáis a Gálgala, ni paséis a Bersabee; pues Gálgala irá al cautiverio, sin falta, y Betel será reducida a la nada.”

But seek not Beth-el, nor enter into Gilgal, and pass not to Beer-sheba: for Gilgal shall surely go into captivity, and Beth-el shall come to nought.

6 Buscad a Yahvé y viviréis, no sea que penetre como fuego en la casa de José y la devore, sin que haya en Betel quien lo apague.

Seek the LORD, and ye shall live; lest he break out like fire in the house of Joseph, and devour [it], and [there be] none to quench [it] in Beth-el.

7 Vosotros tornáis el derecho en ajenjo, y echáis por tierra la justicia.

Ye who turn judgment to wormwood, and leave off righteousness in the earth,

8 Él hizo las Pléyades y Orión; Él convierte en aurora las más densas tinieblas; y muda el día en noche; Él llama las aguas del mar, y las derrama sobre la tierra, Yahvé es su Nombre.

[Seek him] that maketh the seven stars and Orion, and turneth the shadow of death into the morning, and maketh the day dark with night: that calleth for the waters of the sea, and poureth them out upon the face of the earth: The LORD [is] his name:

9 Él trae la ruina sobre los fuertes, y la destrucción sobre la ciudad fortificada.

That strengtheneth the spoiled against the strong, so that the spoiled shall come against the fortress.

10 Mas ellos odian al censor en la puerta, y aborrecen al que habla rectamente.

They hate him that rebuketh in the gate, and they abhor him that speaketh uprightly.

11 Por tanto, ya que pisoteáis al débil y recibís de él tributo de trigo, no habitaréis las casas que habéis edificado de piedras talladas, y aunque habéis plantado viñas deliciosas, no beberéis su vino.

Forasmuch therefore as your treading [is] upon the poor, and ye take from him burdens of wheat: ye have built houses of hewn stone, but ye shall not dwell in them; ye have planted pleasant vineyards, but ye shall not drink wine of them.

12 Pues Yo sé la multitud de vuestros crímenes y cuan graves pecados habéis cometido vosotros, que oprimís al justo, aceptáis cohecho y torcéis (el derecho) de los pobres ante los tribunales.

For I know your manifold transgressions and your mighty sins: they afflict the just, they take a bribe, and they turn aside the poor in the gate [from their right].

13 Por eso el sabio se calla en este tiempo, pues es un tiempo malo.

Therefore the prudent shall keep silence in that time; for it [is] an evil time.

14 Buscad el bien, y no el mal, para que tengáis vida y así Yahvé de los ejércitos; estará con vosotros, como lo decís.

Seek good, and not evil, that ye may live: and so the LORD, the God of hosts, shall be with you, as ye have spoken.

15 Aborreced el mal, y amad el bien, y restableced la justicia en el foro; quizás Yahvé, el Dios de los ejércitos, se apiade del resto de José.

Hate the evil, and love the good, and establish judgment in the gate: it may be that the LORD God of hosts will be gracious unto the remnant of Joseph.

16 Por lo cual, así dice Yahvé, el Dios de los ejércitos, el Señor: En todas las plazas habrá llantos, y en todas las calles dirán: «¡Ay, ay!» Llamarán a duelo a los labradores, y a hacer lamentación a los que saben plañir.

Therefore the LORD, the God of hosts, the Lord, saith thus; Wailing [shall be] in all streets; and they shall say in all the highways, Alas! alas! and they shall call the husbandman to mourning, and such as are skilful of lamentation to wailing.

17 En todas las viñas habrá llantos, porque Yo pasaré por en medio de ti, dice Yahvé.

And in all vineyards [shall be] wailing: for I will pass through thee, saith the LORD.

18 ¡Ay de los que desean el día de Yahvé! ¿Qué será para vosotros el día de Yahvé? Será día de tinieblas, y no de luz.

Woe unto you that desire the day of the LORD! to what end [is] it for you? the day of the LORD [is] darkness, and not light.

19 Será como si un hombre huyendo de un león da con un oso; o si entrando en una casa, al apoyar su mano en la pared, es mordido por una culebra.

As if a man did flee from a lion, and a bear met him; or went into the house, and leaned his hand on the wall, and a serpent bit him.

20 ¿No es acaso tiniebla el día de Yahvé, y no luz, densa oscuridad sin resplandor alguno?

[Shall] not the day of the LORD [be] darkness, and not light? even very dark, and no brightness in it?

21 “Yo aborrezco y desecho vuestras fiestas, y no me agradan vuestras asambleas solemnes.

I hate, I despise your feast days, and I will not smell in your solemn assemblies.

22 Cuando me presentéis holocaustos y oblaciones, no los gustaré, ni miraré vuestros sacrificios de (animales) cebados.

Though ye offer me burnt offerings and your meat offerings, I will not accept [them: ] neither will I regard the peace offerings of your fat beasts.

23 ¡Aparta de Mí el ruido de tus cantos! No quiero escuchar las melodías de tu salterio.

Take thou away from me the noise of thy songs; for I will not hear the melody of thy viols.

24 ¡Corra, al contrario, el juicio como agua, y la justicia como torrente perenne!

But let judgment run down as waters, and righteousness as a mighty stream.

25 ¿Acaso me ofrecisteis sacrificios y ofrendas durante los cuarenta años en el desierto, oh casa de Israel?

Have ye offered unto me sacrifices and offerings in the wilderness forty years, O house of Israel?

26 Antes bien, llevasteis a Sikkut, vuestro rey, y a Quiyún, vuestras imágenes, la estrella de vuestro dios, que os habíais fabricado.

But ye have borne the tabernacle of your Moloch and Chiun your images, the star of your god, which ye made to yourselves.

27 Por eso os llevaré cautivos mas allá de Damasco”, dice Yahvé, cuyo Nombre es Dios de los ejércitos.

Therefore will I cause you to go into captivity beyond Damascus, saith the LORD, whose name [is] The God of hosts.
