Hechos 11

1 Oyeron los apóstoles y los hermanos que estaban en Judea, que también los gentiles habían aceptado la palabra de Dios.

Now the Apostles, and the brethren in various parts of Judaea, heard that the Gentiles also had received God's Message;

2 Cuando pues Pedro ascendió a Jerusalén, le juzgaban por eso los de la circuncisión,

and, when Peter returned to Jerusalem, the champions of circumcision found fault with him.

3 diciendo: “Tú entraste en casas de hombres incircuncisos y comiste con ellos”.

"You went into the houses of men who are not Jews," they said, "and you ate with them."

4 Por lo cual Pedro comenzó a darles cuenta de todo ordenadamente, diciendo:

Peter, however, explained the whole matter to them from the beginning.

5 “Estaba yo en la ciudad de Joppe, en oración, cuando vi en éxtasis una visión, un objeto, a manera de lienzo grande que descendía del cielo, pendiente de los cuatro extremos, y vino hacia mí.

"While I was in the town of Jaffa, offering prayer," he said, "in a trance I saw a vision. There descended what seemed to be an enormous sail, being let down from the sky by ropes at the four corners, and it came close to me.

6 Fijando en él mis ojos lo contemplaba y veía los cuadrúpedos de la tierra, las fieras, los reptiles, y las aves del cielo.

Fixing my eyes on it, I examined it closely, and saw various kinds of quadrupeds, wild beasts, reptiles and birds.

7 Oí también una voz que me decía: “Levántate, Pedro, mata y come”.

I also heard a voice saying to me, "'Rise, Peter, kill and eat.'

8 “De ninguna manera, Señor, dije yo, porque jamás ha entrado en mi boca cosa común o inmunda”.

"'On no account, Lord,' I replied, 'for nothing unholy or impure has ever gone into my mouth.'

9 Respondió por segunda vez una voz del cielo: “Lo que Dios ha purificado, tú no lo llames inmundo”.

"But a voice answered, speaking a second time from the sky, "'What God has purified, you must not regard as unholy.'

10 Esto se repitió tres veces, y todo fue alzado de nuevo hacia el cielo.

"This was said three times, and then everything was drawn up again out of sight.

11 Y he aquí en aquel mismo momento se presentaron junto a la casa en que nos hallábamos, tres hombres enviados a mí desde Cesarea.

"Now at that very moment three men came to the house where we were, having been sent from Caesarea to find me.

12 Díjome entonces el Espíritu que fuese con ellos sin vacilar. Me acompañaron también estos seis hermanos, y entramos en la casa de aquel hombre.

And the Spirit told me to accompany them without any misgivings. There also went with me these six brethren who are now present, and we reached the Centurion's house.

13 El cual nos contó cómo había visto al ángel de pie en su casa, que le decía: “Envía a Joppe y haz venir a Simón por sobrenombre Pedro.

Then he described to us how he had seen the angel come and enter his house and say, "'Send to Jaffa and fetch Simon, surnamed Peter.

14 Este te dirá palabras por las cuales serás salvado tú y toda tu casa”.

He will teach you truths by which you and all your family will be saved.'"

15 Apenas había yo empezado a hablar, cayó el Espíritu Santo sobre ellos, como al principio sobre vosotros.

"And," said Peter, "no sooner had I begun to speak than the Holy Spirit fell upon them, just as He fell upon us at the first.

16 Entonces me acordé de la palabra del Señor cuando dijo: “Juan por cierto ha bautizado con agua, vosotros, empero, seréis bautizados en Espíritu Santo”.

Then I remembered the Lord's words, how He used to say, "'John baptized with water, but you shall be baptized in the Holy Spirit.'

17 Si pues Dios les dio a ellos el mismo don que a nosotros, que hemos creído en el nombre del Señor Jesucristo, ¿quién era yo para poder oponerme a Dios?”

"If therefore God gave them the same gift as He gave us when we first believed on the Lord Jesus Christ, why, who was I to be able to thwart God?"

18 Oído esto se tranquilizaron y glorificaron a Dios diciendo: “Luego también a los gentiles les ha concedido Dios el arrepentimiento para la vida”.

This statement of Peter's silenced his opponents. They extolled the goodness of God, and said, "So, then, to the Gentiles also God has given the repentance which leads to Life."

19 Aquellos que habían sido dispersados a causa de la persecución contra Esteban, fueron hasta Fenicia, Chipre y Antioquía, mas predicaban el Evangelio únicamente a los judíos.

Those, however, who had been driven in various directions by the persecution which broke out on account of Stephen made their way to Phoenicia, Cyprus and Antioch, delivering the Message to none but Jews.

20 Había entre ellos algunos varones de Chipre y Cirene, los cuales, llegados a Antioquía, conversaron también con los griegos anunciándoles al Señor Jesús;

But some of them were Cyprians and Cyrenaeans, who, on coming to Antioch, spoke to the Greeks also and told them the Good News concerning the Lord Jesus.

21 y la mano del Señor estaba con ellos, y un gran número abrazó la fe y se convirtió al Señor.

The power of the Lord was with them, and there were a vast number who believed and turned to the Lord.

22 La noticia de estas cosas llegó a oídos de la Iglesia que estaba en Jerusalén, por lo cual enviaron a Bernabé hasta Antioquía.

When tidings of this reached the ears of the Church in Jerusalem, they sent Barnabas as far as Antioch.

23 Este llegado allá, y viendo la gracia de Dios, se llenó de gozo, y exhortaba a todos a perseverar en el Señor según habían propuesto en su corazón;

On getting there he was delighted to see the grace which God had bestowed; and he encouraged them all to remain, with fixed resolve, faithful to the Lord.

24 porque era un varón bueno y lleno de Espíritu Santo y de fe. Así se agregó un gran número al Señor.

For he was a good man, and was full of the Holy Spirit and of faith; and the number of believers in the Lord greatly increased.

25 Partió entonces ( Bernabé ) para Tarso a buscar a Saulo

Then Barnabas paid a visit to Tarsus to try to find Saul.

26 y habiéndolo hallado lo llevó a Antioquía. Y sucedió que un año entero se congregaron en la Iglesia, instruyendo a mucha gente; y fue en Antioquía donde por primera vez los discípulos fueron llamados cristianos.

He succeeded, and brought him to Antioch; and for a whole year they attended the meetings of the Church, and taught a large number of people. And it was in Antioch that the disciples first received the name of 'Christians.'

27 En aquellos días bajaron profetas de Jerusalén a Antioquía;

At that time certain Prophets came down from Jerusalem to Antioch,

28 y levantándose uno de ellos, por nombre Agabo, profetizaba por medio del Espíritu Santo que un hambre grande había de venir sobre la tierra, como en efecto sucedió bajo Claudio.

one of whom, named Agabus, being instructed by the Spirit, publicly predicted the speedy coming of a great famine throughout the world. (It came in the reign of Claudius.)

29 Determinaron, pues, los discípulos, enviar socorro a los hermanos que habitaban en Judea, cada uno según sus facultades.

So the disciples decided to send relief, every one in proportion to his means, to the brethren living in Judaea.

30 Lo que hicieron efectivamente, enviándolo a los ancianos por mano de Bernabé y Saulo.

This they did, forwarding their contributions to the Elders by Barnabas and Saul.
