2 Reyes 1
1 Después de la muerte de Acab, se rebeló Moab contra Israel.
Moab rebelled against Israel after the death of Ahab.
2 Un día se cayó Ococías por una ventana de su aposento alto en Samaria, de modo que quedó enfermo. Despachó, pues, mensajeros, a los cuales dijo: “Id y consultad a Beelzebul, dios de Acarón, si acaso sanaré de esta enfermedad.”
Ahaziah fell down through the lattice in his upper room that was in Samaria, and was sick. So he sent messengers, and said to them, “Go, enquire of Baal Zebub, the god of Ekron, whether I will recover of this sickness.”
3 Dijo entonces el ángel de Yahvé a Elías tesbita: “Levántate y sube al encuentro de los mensajeros del rey de Samaria y diles: «¿Acaso no hay Dios en Israel, para que vayáis a consultar a Beelzebul, dios de Acarón?
But the LORD’s angel said to Elijah the Tishbite, “Arise, go up to meet the messengers of the king of Samaria, and tell them, ‘Is it because there is no God in Israel that you go to enquire of Baal Zebub, the god of Ekron?
4 Por esto, así dice Yahvé: No dejarás la cama en que te has postrado, sino que morirás sin remedio.»” Y Elías se marchó.
Now therefore the LORD says, “You will not come down from the bed where you have gone up, but you will surely die.”’” Then Elijah departed.
5 Volvieron los mensajeros. El rey les dijo: “¿Por qué estáis ya de vuelta?”
The messengers returned to him, and he said to them, “Why is it that you have returned?”
6 Le contestaron: “Un hombre vino a nuestro encuentro y nos dijo: Id y volveos al rey que os ha enviado, y decidle: Así dice Yahvé: ¿Acaso no hay Dios en Israel, para que tú envíes a consultar a Beelzebul, dios de Acarón? Por tanto no dejarás la cama en que te has postrado, sino que morirás sin remedio.”
They said to him, “A man came up to meet us, and said to us, ‘Go, return to the king who sent you, and tell him, “The LORD says, ‘Is it because there is no God in Israel that you send to enquire of Baal Zebub, the god of Ekron? Therefore you will not come down from the bed where you have gone up, but you will surely die.’”’”
7 Él les preguntó: “¿Qué aspecto tenía ese hombre que subió a vuestro encuentro y os ha dicho esto?”
He said to them, “What kind of man was he who came up to meet you and told you these words?”
8 Ellos le respondieron: “Era un varón cubierto de una piel velluda y un cinto de cuero ceñido a sus lomos.” Dijo (el rey): “Es Elías tesbita.”
They answered him, “He was a hairy man, and wearing a leather belt around his waist.” He said, “It’s Elijah the Tishbite.”
9 Entonces envió el rey un capitán de cincuenta hombres con sus cincuenta soldados; el cual subió hasta (el profeta), y he aquí que este estaba sentado sobre la cumbre del monte. Y le dijo: “Varón de Dios, el rey ha dicho: «Desciende.»”
Then the king sent a captain of fifty with his fifty to him. He went up to him; and behold, he was sitting on the top of the hill. He said to him, “Man of God, the king has said, ‘Come down!’”
10 Elías respondió y dijo al capitán de los cincuenta: “Si yo soy varón de Dios, baje fuego del cielo y te consuma a ti y a tus cincuenta.” Y descendió fuego del cielo y le consumió a él y a sus cincuenta.
Elijah answered to the captain of fifty, “If I am a man of God, then let fire come down from the sky and consume you and your fifty!” Then fire came down from the sky, and consumed him and his fifty.
11 Ococías volvió a enviar contra él otro capitán de cincuenta con sus cincuenta hombres el cual tomó la palabra y dijo: “Varón de Dios, así ha dicho el rey: «Desciende inmediatamente.»”
Again he sent to him another captain of fifty with his fifty. He answered him, “Man of God, the king has said, ‘Come down quickly!’”
12 Elías respondió y les dijo: “Si yo soy varón de Dios, baje fuego del cielo y te consuma a ti y tus cincuenta.” Y descendió del cielo fuego de Dios, y le consumió a él y a sus cincuenta.
Elijah answered them, “If I am a man of God, then let fire come down from the sky and consume you and your fifty!” Then God’s fire came down from the sky, and consumed him and his fifty.
13 (Ococías) volvió a enviar por tercera vez un capitán de cincuenta con sus cincuenta hombres. Este tercer capitán de cincuenta subió, y llegado dobló sus rodillas ante Elías, le suplicó y le dijo: “Varón de Dios, te ruego que mi vida, y la vida de estos tus cincuenta siervos, sea preciosa a tus ojos.
Again he sent the captain of a third fifty with his fifty. The third captain of fifty went up, and came and fell on his knees before Elijah, and begged him, and said to him, “Man of God, please let my life and the life of these fifty of your servants be precious in your sight.
14 Bien sé que fuego del cielo bajó y consumió a los dos primeros capitanes de cincuenta, con sus cincuenta hombres. Mi vida sea, pues, preciosa a tus ojos.”
Behold, fire came down from the sky and consumed the last two captains of fifty with their fifties. But now let my life be precious in your sight.”
15 Entonces el Ángel de Yahvé dijo a Elías: “Desciende con él; no le tengas miedo.” Se levantó y fue con él al rey;
The LORD’s angel said to Elijah, “Go down with him. Don’t be afraid of him.” Then he arose and went down with him to the king.
16 y le dijo: “Así dice Yahvé: Por cuanto has enviado mensajeros para consultar a Beelzebul, dios de Acarón, como si no hubiera Dios en Israel, cuya palabra se pueda consultar, por tanto no dejarás la cama en que te has postrado, sino que morirás sin remedio.”
He said to him, “The LORD says, ‘Because you have sent messengers to enquire of Baal Zebub, the god of Ekron, is it because there is no God in Israel to enquire of his word? Therefore you will not come down from the bed where you have gone up, but you will surely die.’”
17 Murió efectivamente, conforme a la palabra de Yahvé que Elías había dicho; y en su lugar subió al trono Joram, el año segundo de Joram, hijo de Josafat, rey de Judá; porque (Ococías) no tenía hijo.
So he died according to the LORD’s word which Elijah had spoken. Jehoram began to reign in his place in the second year of Jehoram the son of Jehoshaphat king of Judah, because he had no son.
18 Los demás hechos que hizo Ococías ¿no están escritos en el libro de los anales de los reyes de Israel?
Now the rest of the acts of Ahaziah which he did, aren’t they written in the book of the chronicles of the kings of Israel?
