2 Reyes 4

1 Una de las mujeres de los discípulos de los profetas, clamó a Eliseo, diciendo: “Tu siervo, mi marido, ha muerto, y tú sabes que tu siervo era temeroso de Yahvé; ahora ha venido el acreedor para llevarse mis dos hijos como esclavos.”

Now there cried a certain woman of the wives of the sons of the prophets to Elisha, saying, Thy servant my husband is dead; and thou knowest that thy servant feared the LORD: and the creditor hath come to take to my two sons to be his slaves.

2 Eliseo le dijo: “¿Qué puedo hacer yo por ti? Dime ¿qué tienes en casa?” Ella respondió: “Tu sierva no tiene ninguna otra cosa sino una orza de aceite.”

And Elisha said to her, What shall I do for thee? tell me, what hast thou in the house? And she said, Thy handmaid hath not any thing in the house, except a pot of oil.

3 Dijo él: “Vete a pedir fuera vasijas, de parte de todas tus vecinas, vasijas vacías, y no sean pocas.

Then he said, Go, borrow thee vessels abroad of all thy neighbours, even empty vessels; borrow not a few.

4 Luego entrarás y cerrarás la puerta tras de ti y tus hijos, y echarás (aceite) en todas esas vasijas, y las que estuvieren llenas, las pondrás aparte.”

And when thou hast come in, thou shalt shut the door upon thee and upon thy sons, and shalt pour out into all those vessels, and thou shalt set aside that which is full.

5 Ella se retiró de él, cerró la puerta tras de sí y de sus hijos; y mientras estos le alcanzaban (las vasijas) ella las llenaba.

So she went from him, and shut the door upon her and upon her sons, who brought the vessels to her; and she poured out.

6 Estando ya todas llenas, dijo a su hijo: “Alcánzame otra vasija.” Él le respondió: “No hay más vasijas.” Y se detuvo el aceite.

And it came to pass, when the vessels were full, that she said to her son, Bring me yet a vessel. And he said to her, There is not a vessel more. And the oil stopped flowing.

7 Ella fue entonces y se lo contó al varón de Dios, el cual dijo: “Vete y vende el aceite, y paga tus deudas; y viviréis de lo restante, tú y tus hijos.”

Then she came and told the man of God. And he said, Go, sell the oil, and pay thy debt, and live thou and thy children on the rest.

8 Un día pasó Eliseo a Sunem, donde había una mujer distinguida, la cual le obligó a que comiese. Y siempre que pasaba se detenía allí para comer.

And it fell on a day, that Elisha passed to Shunem, where was a great woman; and she constrained him to eat bread. And so it was, that as oft as he passed by, he turned in there to eat bread.

9 Dijo entonces ella a su marido: Mira, por favor, yo sé que este hombre que viene tan a menudo a nuestra casa, es un santo varón de Dios.

And she said to her husband, Behold now, I perceive that this is an holy man of God, who passeth by us continually.

10 Hagamos en el piso de arriba un cuartito con paredes, y pongámosle allí una cama, una mesa, una silla, y un candelero, para que siempre que nos visite pueda retirarse allí.”

Let us make a little chamber, I pray thee, with walls; and let us set for him there a bed, and a table, and a stool, and a lampstand: and it shall be, when he cometh to us, that he shall turn in there.

11 Efectivamente, llegó allá un día (Eliseo) y retirándose al cuarto, se acostó allí.

And it fell on a day, that he came there, and he turned into the chamber, and lay there.

12 Luego dijo a Giecí, su criado: “Llama a esta sunamita.” La llamó y ella se presentó ante él.

And he said to Gehazi his servant, Call this Shunammite. And when he had called her, she stood before him.

13 Entonces dijo a (Giecí): “Dile a ella: Mira, tú nos has tratado con tanta solicitud. ¿Qué se puede hacer para ti? ¿Hay que intervenir por ti ante el rey, o ante el jefe del ejército?” Respondió ella: “Yo habito en medio de mi pueblo.”

And he said to him, Say now to her, Behold, thou hast been careful for us with all this care; what is to be done for thee? wouldest thou be spoken for to the king, or to the captain of the host? And she answered, I dwell among my own people.

14 “¿Qué se puede entonces hacer por ella?”, preguntó (Eliseo). Giecí respondió: “Desgraciadamente no tiene hijo, y su marido es ya viejo.”

And he said, What then is to be done for her? And Gehazi answered, Verily she hath no child, and her husband is old.

15 Dijo entonces: “Llámala.” La llamó y ella se paró a la puerta.

And he said, Call her. And when he had called her, she stood in the door.

16 Dijo él: “El año que viene, a este tiempo, abrazarás un hijo.” Mas ella respondió: “No, señor mío, varón de Dios, no engañes a tu sierva.”

And he said, About this season, next year, thou shalt embrace a son. And she said, Nay, my lord, thou man of God, do not lie to thy handmaid.

17 En efecto, concibió la mujer y dio a luz un hijo el año siguiente, por ese mismo tiempo, como Eliseo lo había anunciado.

And the woman conceived, and bore a son at that season that Elisha had said to her, according to the set time.

18 Creció el niño, pero un día habiendo salido para ver a su padre, que estaba con los segadores,

And when the child was grown, it happened on a day, that he went out to his father to the reapers.

19 dijo a su padre: “¡Mi cabeza, mi cabeza!” El (padre) dijo al criado: “Llévalo a su madre.”

And he said to his father, My head, my head. And he said to a lad, Carry him to his mother.

20 Él lo alzó y lo llevó a su madre, sobre cuyas rodillas (el niño) estuvo sentado hasta el mediodía, y luego murió.

And when he had taken him, and brought him to his mother, he sat on her knees till noon, and then died.

21 Entonces ella subió, le puso sobre la cama del varón de Dios, cerró la puerta y salió.

And she went up, and laid him on the bed of the man of God, and shut the door upon him, and went out.

22 Llamó a su marido y le dijo: “Mándame, por favor, uno de los criados con una borrica, para que yo vaya corriendo en busca del varón de Dios; luego volveré.”

And she called to her husband, and said, Send me, I pray thee, one of the young men, and one of the donkeys, that I may run to the man of God, and come again.

23 Contestó él: “¿Por qué vas a verlo hoy? Hoy no es novilunio ni sábado.” Pero ella respondió: “Adiós.”

And he said, Why wilt thou go to him to day? it is neither new moon, nor sabbath. And she said, It shall be well.

24 Hizo aparejar la borrica, y dijo a su criado: “¡Arrea y anda! no me detengas en el camino hasta que yo te lo diga.”

Then she saddled a donkey, and said to her servant, Drive, and go forward; slack not thy riding for me, except I bid thee.

25 Fue y llegó al varón de Dios en el monte Carmelo. Cuando el varón de Dios la vio de lejos, dijo a Giecí, su criado: “He ahí a esa sunamita.

So she went and came to the man of God to mount Carmel. And it came to pass, when the man of God saw her afar off, that he said to Gehazi his servant, Behold, yonder is that Shunammite:

26 Córre, pues, al encuentro de ella, y dile: «¿Te va bien? ¿Y cómo están tu marido y el niño?»” “¡Bien!”, dijo ella.

Run now, I pray thee, to meet her, and say to her, Is it well with thee? is it well with thy husband? is it well with the child? And she answered, It is well.

27 Pero llegada al varón de Dios en el monte, le asió de los pies. Giecí se acercó para arrancarla; mas el varón de Dios dijo: “Déjala porque su alma está llena de amargura, pero Yahvé me lo ha ocultado, y no me lo ha revelado.”

And when she came to the man of God to the hill, she caught him by the feet: but Gehazi came near to thrust her away. And the man of God said, Let her alone; for her soul is sorrowful within her: and the LORD hath hid it from me, and hath not told me.

28 Exclamó ella: “¿Acaso he pedido yo un hijo a mi señor? ¿No te dije: no me engañes?”

Then she said, Did I ask a son from my lord? did I not say, Do not deceive me?

29 Dijo él entonces a Giecí: “Cíñete los lomos, y toma mi báculo en tu mano y marcha. Si encuentras a alguno no le saludes; y si alguna te saluda no le respondas; y pon mi báculo sobre el rostro del niño.”

Then he said to Gehazi, Gird up thy loins, and take my staff in thy hand, and go thy way: and if thou shalt meet any man, greet him not; and if any shall greet thee, answer him not again: and lay my staff upon the face of the child.

30 Mas la madre del niño dijo: “¡Por la vida de Yahvé y por la vida de tu alma! No me apartaré de ti.” Se levantó él también y la siguió.

And the mother of the child said, As the LORD liveth, and as thy soul liveth, I will not leave thee. And he arose, and followed her.

31 Entretanto Giecí se les adelantó y puso el báculo sobre el rostro del niño; pero no hubo voz en él ni señal de vida, por lo cual se volvió al encuentro (de Eliseo) y le dio noticia, diciendo: “No ha despertado el niño.”

And Gehazi passed on before them, and laid the staff upon the face of the child; but there was neither voice, nor hearing. Therefore he went again to meet him, and told him, saying, The child is not awakened.

32 Llegó Eliseo a la casa; y he aquí que halló al niño muerto, tendido sobre su cama.

And when Elisha had come into the house, behold, the child was dead, and laid upon his bed.

33 Entró, cerró la puerta tras los dos, y oró a Yahvé.

He went in therefore, and shut the door upon them both, and prayed to the LORD.

34 Luego subió, y acostándose sobre el niño, puso su boca sobre la boca de este, sus ojos sobre sus ojos, y sus manos sobre sus manos, y se tendió sobre él. Así se calentó la carne del niño.

And he went up, and lay upon the child, and put his mouth upon his mouth, and his eyes upon his eyes, and his hands upon his hands: and he stretched himself upon the child; and the flesh of the child became warm.

35 Después se retiró y anduvo por la casa, de un lugar a otro. Subió (de nuevo) y se tendió sobre el niño, el cual estornudó siete veces y abrió los ojos.

Then he returned, and walked in the house to and fro; and went up, and stretched himself upon him: and the child sneezed seven times, and the child opened his eyes.

36 Entonces llamó a Giecí y dijo: “Llama a esa sunamita.” La llamó, y ella vino donde estaba él; y dijo (Eliseo): “Toma a tu hijo.”

And he called Gehazi, and said, Call this Shunammite. So he called her. And when she had come in to him, he said, Take up thy son.

37 Entró ella y postrándose en tierra se echó a sus pies. Luego tomó a su hijo y salió.

Then she went in, and fell at his feet, and bowed herself to the ground, and took up her son, and went out.

38 Eliseo volvió a Gálgala. Había entonces hambre en el país; y estando los discípulos de los profetas sentados delante de él, dijo a su criado: “Pon la olla grande, y cuece un potaje para los discípulos de los profetas.”

And Elisha came again to Gilgal: and there was a famine in the land; and the sons of the prophets were sitting before him: and he said to his servant, Set on the great pot, and boil pottage for the sons of the prophets.

39 Salió, pues, uno de ellos al campo a recoger hierbas; y hallando una como cepa silvestre, recogió de ella coloquíntidas campestres y llenó con ellas su manto. Vuelto a casa las cortó en pedazos y las echó en la olla del potaje; pues no las conocían.

And one went out into the field to gather herbs, and found a wild vine, and gathered from it wild gourds his lap full, and came and shred them into the pot of pottage: for they knew them not.

40 Sirvieron después a aquellos hombres la comida, pero luego que probaron el potaje alzaron el grito, diciendo: “Hay muerte en la olla, oh varón de Dios.” Y no pudieron comer.

So they poured out for the men to eat. And it came to pass, as they were eating of the pottage, that they cried out, and said, O thou man of God, there is death in the pot. And they could not eat of it.

41 Ordenó él: “Traed harina.” Y la echó en la olla, diciendo: “Sírvelo a la gente para que coma”, y no hubo ya nada malo en la olla.

But he said, Then bring meal. And he cast it into the pot; and he said, Pour out for the people, that they may eat. And there was no harm in the pot.

42 Vino un hombre de Baalsalisá que trajo al varón de Dios pan de primicias, veinte panes de cebada y espigas de trigo nuevo en su alforja. Dijo (Eliseo): “Dáselo a la gente para que coma.”

And there came a man from Baalshalisha, and brought the man of God bread of the firstfruits, twenty loaves of barley, and full ears of grain in its husk. And he said, Give to the people, that they may eat.

43 Pero respondió su siervo: “¿Cómo? ¿Esto he de servir a cien hombres?” Replicó él: “Dáselo a la gente para que coma, porque así dice Yahvé: «Comerán y aun sobrará.: »”

And his servant said, What, should I set this before an hundred men? He said again, Give the people, that they may eat: for thus saith the LORD, They shall eat, and shall have some left.

44 Entonces los puso delante de ellos, y comieron, y sobró, según la palabra de Yahvé.

So he set it before them, and they ate, and left some, according to the word of the LORD.
