2 Reyes 2
1 Cuando Yahvé quiso arrebatar a Elías al cielo, mediante un torbellino, partió Elías con Eliseo desde Gálgala;
Just before the Lord took Elijah up to heaven in a whirlwind, Elijah and Elisha were walking together on their way from Gilgal.
2 y dijo Elías a Eliseo: “Quédate, te ruego, aquí, porque Yahvé me envía a Betel.” Mas Eliseo le respondió: “Por la vida de Yahvé, y por la vida de tu alma, que no te dejaré.” Bajaron, pues, a Betel.
Elijah said to Elisha, “Please stay here, for the Lord has sent me to Bethel.” But Elisha replied, “As the Lord lives, and as you yourself live, I will not leave you.” So they went to Bethel.
3 Los hijos de los profetas que había en Betel salieron al encuentro de Eliseo y le dijeron: “¿Sabes tú que hoy va a arrebatar Yahvé a tu señor alzándolo sobre tu cabeza?” Dijo él: “Yo también lo sé; ¡callad!”
The sons of the prophets who lived in Bethel came to Elisha and told him, “You do know that the Lord is going to take your master away from you today, don't you?” “Yes, I know,” he replied. “Don't talk about it.”
4 Luego dijo Elías: “Eliseo, quédate, te ruego, aquí, porque Yahvé me envía a Jericó.” Mas él le respondió: “Por la vida de Yahvé, y por la vida de tu alma, que no te dejaré.” Y llegaron a Jericó.
Then Elijah said to him, “Please stay here, Elisha, for the Lord has sent me to Jericho.” He replied, “As the Lord lives, and as you live, I will not leave you.” So they went to Jericho.
5 Los discípulos de los profetas que había en Jericó vinieron a Eliseo, y le dijeron: “¿Sabes tú que hoy va a arrebatar Yahvé a tu señor alzándolo sobre tu cabeza?” Respondió él: “Yo también lo sé; ¡callad!”
The sons of the prophets who lived in Jericho came to Elisha and told him, “You do know that the Lord is going to take your master away from you today, don't you?” “Yes, I know,” he replied. “Don't talk about it.”
6 Después le dijo Elías: “Quédate, te ruego, aquí; porque Yahvé me envía al Jordán.” Mas él le respondió: “Por la vida de Yahvé, y por la vida de tu alma, que no te dejaré.” Y ambos siguieron andando.
Then Elijah said to him, “Please stay here, Elisha, for the Lord has sent me to the Jordan.” He replied, “As the Lord lives, and as you live, I will not leave you.” So they travelled on together.
7 Vinieron también cincuenta de los discípulos de los profetas, que se pararon enfrente, a lo lejos, mientras los dos estaban de pie junto al Jordán.
Then a group of fifty of the sons of the prophets went and stood facing Elijah and Elisha at a distance as the two of them stood by the Jordan.
8 Entonces tomó Elías su manto, lo arrolló y golpeó las aguas, las cuales se dividieron a un lado y otro; y entrambos pasaron a pie enjuto.
Elijah took his cloak, rolled it up, and hit the water. It divided to the one side and to the other and both of them crossed over on dry ground.
9 Cuando hubieron pasado, dijo Elías a Eliseo: “Pide lo que quieras que haga por ti, antes que sea quitado de tu lado.” Contestó Eliseo: “Que venga sobre mí doble porción de tu espíritu.”
When they arrived on the other side, Elijah asked Elisha, “What can I do for you before I'm taken from you?” “Please let me have a double amount of your spirit,” Elisha replied.
10 Respondió él: “Cosa difícil es la que pides. Si me vieres cuando fuere quitado de ti, te será hecho así; mas si no, no te será concedido.”
“What you have asked for is hard,” Elijah responded. “But if you see me when I am taken from you, you will have it, otherwise not.”
11 Mientras seguían andando y hablando, he aquí que un carro de fuego y caballos de fuego separaron al uno del otro y subió Elías en un torbellino al cielo.
As they were walking along, talking, a chariot of fire and horses of fire came between them, and Elijah was taken up in the whirlwind to heaven.
12 Eliseo miraba y clamaba: “¡Padre mío, padre mío, carro de Israel y su caballería!” Y no lo vio más. Entonces asió sus vestidos y los rasgó en dos partes.
Elisha saw what happened and cried out, “My father! My father! Look! The chariots and horsemen of Israel!” Then Elisha couldn't see him anymore. He took his clothes and ripped them to pieces.
13 Alzó Eliseo el manto que se le había caído a Elías, y volviéndose se detuvo a la orilla del Jordán.
Then Elisha picked up Elijah's cloak that had fallen from him, and went back and stood on the bank of the Jordan.
14 Luego tomó el manto que se le había caído a Elías, e hirió las aguas, diciendo: “¿Dónde está ahora Yahvé, el Dios de Israel?” Y cuando hirió las aguas, estas se dividieron a un lado y otro; y pasó Eliseo.
He took Elijah's cloak that had fallen from him, hit the water, and cried out, “Where is the Lord, the God of Elijah?” When he hit the water, it divided to the one side and to the other and Elisha crossed over.
15 Viendo esto los discípulos de los profetas que estaban enfrente, en Jericó, decían: “El espíritu de Elías reposa sobre Eliseo.” Y saliéndole al encuentro se postraron delante de él en tierra,
The sons of the prophets who lived in Jericho saw him from the opposite side and shouted out, “Elijah's spirit now rests upon Elisha!” They went over to meet him, and bowed to the ground before him.
16 y le dijeron: “He aquí que hay entre tus siervos cincuenta hombres esforzados; que vayan ellos en busca de tu señor. Quizás el espíritu del Señor le ha arrebatado y le ha arrojado sobre algún monte, o en algún valle.” Mas él dijo: “No los enviéis.”
“Look,” they said to Elisha, “we your servants have fifty good men here. Please allow them to go and search for your master. Maybe the Spirit of the Lord has taken him and put him down on a mountain or in a valley somewhere.” “Don't bother sending them,” Elisha replied.
17 Pero ellos le importunaron hasta que se avergonzó y dijo: “Enviad.” Enviaron pues a los cincuenta nombres, los cuales buscaron tres días sin dar con él.
But they went on trying to persuade him until he was too embarrassed to say no. “Go ahead and send them,” he told them. So they sent fifty men, who searched for Elijah for three days but couldn't find him.
18 Cuando se volvieron a él —pues él moraba en Jericó— les dijo: “¿No os he dicho: No vayáis?”
When they returned to Elisha, who was staying in Jericho, he said to them, “Didn't I tell you not to bother going?”
19 Los vecinos de la ciudad dijeron a Eliseo: “El sitio de la ciudad es hermoso, como lo ve mi señor; pero las aguas son malas, y la tierra es estéril.”
The townspeople said to Elisha, “Look, sir, while our town has a good location as you can see, the water is bad and the soil is poor.”
20 Entonces él dijo: “Traedme una vasija nueva, y echad sal en ella.” Se la trajeron;
“Bring me a brand new bowl and put some salt in it,” he replied. So they brought it to him.
21 y él salió a la fuente del agua, echó en ella la sal y dijo: “Así dice Yahvé: Yo saneo estas aguas. En adelante no saldrá más de aquí ni muerte ni esterilidad.”
Then Elisha went to the spring, threw the salt into it, and said, “This is what the Lord says: ‘I have purified this water. It won't cause death or miscarriages anymore.’”
22 Y quedaron saneadas aquellas aguas hasta el día de hoy, conforme a la palabra que había dicho Eliseo.
The water there is still pure to this very day, just as Elisha said it would be.
23 De allí subió a Betel, y en la subida, estando él en el camino, salieron de la ciudad unos muchachuelos que se burlaban de él, diciéndole: “¡Sube, calvo! ¡Sube, calvo!”
Elisha went on from there to Bethel. As he was walking along the road, a group of youths came from the town. They made fun of him, calling out, “Go on up, baldy! Go on up, baldy!”
24 Pero él se dio vuelta, los miró y los maldijo en nombre de Yahvé; y salieron dos osas del bosque, que destrozaron cuarenta y dos de esos muchachuelos.
Turning around, he looked at them and called down a curse on them in the Lord's name. Suddenly two female bears came out of the forest and mauled forty-two of them.
25 De allí se fue al monte Carmelo, desde donde regresó a Samaria.
Elisha carried on to Mount Carmel, and from there he went back to Samaria.
