1 Samuel 15
1 Samuel dijo a Saúl: “Yahvé me envió a ungirte rey sobre su pueblo, sobre Israel. Escucha, pues, ahora lo que dice Yahvé.
Samuel also said to Saul, the LORD sent me to anoint thee [to be] king over his people, over Israel: now therefore hearken thou to the voice of the words of the LORD.
2 Así dice Yahvé de los Ejércitos: “He visto lo que hizo Amalec contra Israel, cómo se le opuso en el camino cuando subía de Egipto.
Thus saith the LORD of hosts, I remember [that] which Amalek did to Israel, how he laid [wait] for him in the way, when he came up from Egypt.
3 Ve, pues, ahora y derrota a Amalec; extermínalo por completo sin tenerle compasión alguna. Harás morir a hombres y mujeres, niños y mamantes, vacas y ovejas, camellos y asnos.”
Now go and smite Amalek, and utterly destroy all that they have, and spare them not; but slay both man and woman, infant and suckling, ox and sheep, camel and ass.
4 Convocó, pues, Saúl al pueblo, y los pasó revista en Telaím, doscientos mil de a pie, y diez mil hombres de Judá.
And Saul assembled the people, and numbered them in Telaim, two hundred thousand footmen, and ten thousand men of Judah.
5 Llegado a la ciudad de los amalecitas, se apostó en el valle,
And Saul came to a city of Amalek, and laid wait in the valley.
6 y dijo a los cineos: “Idos, retiraos, bajad de en medio de Amalec, de lo contrario os destruiré juntamente con ellos. Porque vosotros usasteis de misericordia para con todos los hijos de Israel cuando subieron de Egipto.” Se retiraron los cineos de en medio de Amalec.
And Saul said to the Kenites, Go, depart, withdraw yourselves from among the Amalekites, lest I destroy you with them: for ye showed kindness to all the children of Israel when they came up from Egypt. So the Kenites departed from among the Amalekites.
7 Saúl derrotó a Amalec desde Havilá hasta Sur, frente a Egipto;
And Saul smote the Amalekites from Havilah, [until] thou comest to Shur, that [is] over against Egypt.
8 y prendió vivo a Agag, rey de Amalec, y en todo el pueblo ejecutó el anatema.
And he took Agag the king of the Amalekites alive, and utterly destroyed all the people with the edge of the sword.
9 Pero Saúl y el pueblo tuvieron lástima de Agag, y de las mejores ovejas y vacas, de los animales gordos, de los corderos y de todo lo bueno, y no quisieron consagrarlo al anatema; así que consagraron al anatema solamente lo vil y lo despreciable.
But Saul and the people spared Agag, and the best of the sheep, and of the oxen, and of the fatlings, and the lambs, and all [that was] good, and would not utterly destroy them: but every thing [that was] vile and refuse, that they destroyed utterly.
10 Entonces Yahvé habló a Samuel y dijo:
Then came the word of the LORD to Samuel, saying,
11 “Me pesa haber hecho rey a Saúl; porque me ha abandonado y no ha ejecutado mis órdenes.” Se contristó Samuel, y clamó a Yahvé toda aquella noche.
I repent that I have set up Saul [to be] king: for he is turned back from following me, and hath not performed my commandments. And it grieved Samuel; and he cried to the LORD all night.
12 Al día siguiente cuando Samuel se levantó muy temprano para ir al encuentro de Saúl, se le dio la siguiente noticia: “Saúl se ha ido a Carmelo, y he aquí que se ha erigido un monumento; luego dio la vuelta y pasando adelante bajó a Gálgala.”
And when Samuel rose early to meet Saul in the morning, it was told Samuel, saying, Saul came to Carmel, and behold, he set him up a place, and has gone about, and passed on, and gone down to Gilgal.
13 Cuando Samuel se llegó a Saúl, le dijo este: “Bendito seas de Yahvé; he ejecutado ya la orden de Yahvé.”
And Samuel came to Saul: and Saul said to him, Blessed [be] thou of the LORD: I have performed the commandment of the LORD.
14 Le respondió Samuel: “¿Qué es ese balido de ovejas que llega a mis oídos, y el mugido de bueyes que oigo?”
And Samuel said, What [meaneth] then this bleating of the sheep in my ears, and the lowing of the oxen which I hear?
15 Contestó Saúl: “Los han traído de Amalec, pues el pueblo tenía lástima de lo mejor de las ovejas, y de los bueyes y (los reservó) para ofrecerlos a Yahvé, tu Dios; pero el resto lo hemos consagrado al anatema.”
And Saul said, They have brought them from the Amalekites: for the people spared the best of the sheep and of the oxen, to sacrifice to the LORD thy God; and the rest we have utterly destroyed.
16 Entonces dijo Samuel a Saúl: “Deja que te anuncie lo que Yahvé me ha dicho esta noche.” Él le respondió: “Habla.”
Then Samuel said to Saul, Stay, and I will tell thee what the LORD hath said to me this night. And he said to him, Say on.
17 Y Samuel dijo: “¿No eras tú pequeño a tus propios ojos cuando llegaste a ser cabeza de las tribus de Israel y te ungió Yahvé por rey sobre Israel?
And Samuel said, When thou [wast] little in thy own sight, [wast] thou not [made] the head of the tribes of Israel, and the LORD anointed thee king over Israel?
18 Yahvé te hizo marchar diciendo: «Ve y consagra al anatema a aquellos pecadores, los amalecitas, y combátelos hasta acabar con ellos.»
And the LORD sent thee on a journey, and said, Go, and utterly destroy the sinners the Amalekites, and fight against them until they are consumed.
19 ¿Por qué, pues, no has obedecido la voz de Yahvé echándote sobre el botín y haciendo lo que es malo a los ojos de Yahvé?”
Why then didst thou not obey the voice of the LORD, but didst fly upon the spoil, and didst evil in the sight of the LORD?
20 Saúl contestó a Samuel: “Al contrario, yo he obedecido la voz de Yahvé y he seguido el camino por el cual me envió Yahvé; he traído a Agag, rey de Amalec, y a los amalecitas los he consagrado al anatema.
And Saul said to Samuel, Yea, I have obeyed the voice of the LORD, and have gone the way which the LORD sent me, and have brought Agag the king of Amalek, and have utterly destroyed the Amalekites.
21 Mas el pueblo tomó del despojo ovejas y bueyes, las primicias del anatema, para ofrecerlos a Yahvé, tu Dios, en Gálgala.”
But the people took of the spoil, sheep and oxen, the chief of the things which should have been utterly destroyed, to sacrifice to the LORD thy God in Gilgal.
22 Respondió Samuel: “¿Le agradan acaso a Yahvé holocaustos y sacrificios más que la obediencia a su voz? He aquí, que mejor es la obediencia que los sacrificios, y el ser dócil vale más que el sebo de los carneros.
And Samuel said, Hath the LORD [as great] delight in burnt-offerings and sacrifices, as in obeying the voice of the LORD? Behold, to obey [is] better than sacrifice, [and] to hearken than the fat of rams.
23 Porque la rebeldía es como el pecado de adivinación, y la obstinación como iniquidad e idolatría. Por cuanto tú has desechado la palabra de Yahvé, Él te ha desechado a ti para que no seas rey.”
For rebellion [is as] the sin of witchcraft, and stubbornness [is as] iniquity and idolatry. Because thou hast rejected the word of the LORD, he hath also rejected thee from [being] king.
24 Entonces dijo Saúl a Samuel: “He pecado, pues he traspasado la orden de Yahvé y tus palabras, temiendo al pueblo y escuchando la voz de ellos.
And Saul said to Samuel, I have sinned: for I have transgressed the commandment of the LORD, and thy words; because I feared the people, and obeyed their voice.
25 Perdona ahora, te ruego, mi pecado; vuélvete conmigo y voy a adorar a Yahvé.”
Now therefore, I pray thee, pardon my sin, and turn again with me, that I may worship the LORD.
26 “No me volveré contigo, dijo Samuel a Saúl, pues has desechado la palabra de Yahvé, por lo cual Yahvé te ha desechado a ti para que no seas rey sobre Israel.”
And Samuel said to Saul, I will not return with thee: for thou hast rejected the word of the LORD, and the LORD hath rejected thee from being king over Israel.
27 Y dándole Samuel la espalda para irse, le asió (Saúl) del ruedo de la capa, la cual se rasgó.
And as Samuel turned about to depart, he laid hold upon the skirt of his mantle, and it rent.
28 Y dijo Samuel: “Arrancado ha Yahvé hoy de ti el reino de Israel y lo ha dado a un prójimo tuyo que es mejor que tú.
And Samuel said to him, The LORD hath rent the kingdom of Israel from thee this day, and hath given it to a neighbor of thine, [that is] better than thou.
29 Pues no miente el Esplendor de Israel, tampoco se arrepiente, porque no es como un hombre para arrepentirse.”
And also the Strength of Israel will not lie nor repent: for he [is] not a man, that he should repent.
30 Respondió (Saúl): “He pecado; mas hónrame ahora, te ruego, delante de los ancianos de mi pueblo y delante de Israel, y vuelve conmigo para que adore a Yahvé, tu Dios.”
Then he said, I have sinned: [yet] honor me now, I pray thee, before the elders of my people, and before Israel, and turn again with me, that I may worship the LORD thy God.
31 Se volvió Samuel y siguió a Saúl; y adoró Saúl a Yahvé.
So Samuel turned again after Saul; and Saul worshiped the LORD.
32 Después dijo Samuel: “Traedme a Agag, rey de Amalec.” Y Agag se acercó a él con aire complacido, pues se decía Agag: “Seguramente ha pasado ya la amargura de la muerte.”
Then said Samuel, Bring ye hither to me Agag the king of the Amalekites. And Agag came to him delicately. And Agag said, Surely the bitterness of death is past.
33 Pero Samuel dijo: “Así como tu espada ha privado de hijos a tantas mujeres, quede también tu madre sin hijo entre las mujeres.” Y Samuel destrozó a Agag delante de Yahvé en Gálgala.
And Samuel said, As thy sword hath made women childless, so shall thy mother be childless among women. And Samuel hewed Agag in pieces before the LORD in Gilgal.
34 Y se retiró Samuel a Ramá; Saúl, empero, subió a su casa, a Gabaá de Saúl.
Then Samuel went to Ramah; and Saul went up to his house to Gibeah of Saul.
35 Samuel no volvió a ver a Saúl en todo el resto de su vida, pero lloraba por Saúl, porque Yahvé se había arrepentido de haber hecho a Saúl rey sobre Israel.
And Samuel came no more to see Saul until the day of his death: nevertheless Samuel mourned for Saul: and the LORD repented that he had made Saul king over Israel.
