1 Samuel 12

1 Dijo Samuel a todo Israel: “He aquí que he escuchado vuestra voz en todo lo que me habéis propuesto, y he constituido sobre vosotros un rey.

Samuel said to all Israel, "Look, I have listened to your voice in all that you said to me, and have made a king over you.

2 Ahora, pues, tenéis al rey a vuestro frente. Mas yo soy viejo y canoso, y mis hijos están entre vosotros, después de andar yo delante de vosotros desde mi juventud hasta este día.

Now, look, the king walks before you; and I am old and gray-headed; and look, my sons are with you: and I have walked before you from my youth to this day.

3 Aquí me tenéis. Declarad contra mí delante de Yahvé y ante su ungido: ¿Cuyo buey he tomado, cuyo asno he quitado, a quién he oprimido, a quién he hecho injusticia, o de cuya mano he aceptado regalo para velar con él mis ojos? Se lo restituiré.”

Here I am. Testify against me before Jehovah, and before his anointed. Whose ox have I taken, or whose donkey have I taken, or whom have I defrauded? Whom have I oppressed, or from whose hand have I taken a bribe, or a shoe? Testify against me, and I will restore it to you."

4 Ellos respondieron: “No nos has oprimido ni nos has hecho injusticia, ni de nadie has aceptado nada.”

They said, "You have not defrauded us, nor oppressed us, neither have you taken anything of any man's hand."

5 Entonces les dijo: “Testigo es Yahvé contra vosotros, y testigo es también hoy su ungido, de que no habéis hallado nada en mi mano.” Y ellos contestaron: “Testigo.”

He said to them, "Jehovah is witness against you, and his anointed is witness this day, that you have not found anything in my hand." They said, "He is witness."

6 Dijo Samuel al pueblo: “Sí, (testigo) es Yahvé quien constituyó a Moisés y Aarón y sacó a vuestros padres de la tierra de Egipto.

Samuel said to the people, "It is Jehovah who appointed Moses and Aaron, and that brought your fathers up out of Egypt.

7 Ahora bien, compareced, que voy a juzgaros ante Yahvé, por todos los beneficios que Yahvé ha hecho a vosotros y a vuestros padres.

Now therefore stand still, that I may plead with you before Jehovah concerning all the righteous acts of Jehovah, which he did to you and to your fathers.

8 Cuando Jacob entró en Egipto y vuestros padres clamaron a Yahvé, envió Yahvé a Moisés y Aarón, que sacaron a vuestros padres de Egipto, y los estableció en este lugar.

"When Jacob went into Egypt, and the Egyptians oppressed them, and your fathers cried to Jehovah, then Jehovah sent Moses and Aaron, who brought your fathers out of Egypt, and made them to dwell in this place.

9 Mas ellos olvidaron a Yahvé, su Dios, y Él los vendió en manos de Sísara, jefe del ejército de Hasor, en manos de los filisteos, y en manos del rey de Moab; los cuales hicieron guerra contra ellos.

"But they forgot Jehovah their God; and he sold them into the hand of Sisera, captain of the army of Hazor, and into the hand of the Philistines, and into the hand of the king of Moab; and they fought against them.

10 Entonces clamaron a Yahvé, diciendo: “Hemos pecado, abandonando a Yahvé y sirviendo a los Baales y a las Astartés. Ahora pues, líbranos de nuestros enemigos y te serviremos.”

And they cried to Jehovah, and they said, 'We have sinned, because we have forsaken Jehovah, and have served the Baals and the Ashtaroth: but now deliver us out of the hand of our enemies, and we will serve you.'

11 Envió, pues, Yahvé a Jerobaal, a Bedán, a Jefté y a Samuel, y os libró de las manos de vuestros enemigos que os rodeaban; y habitasteis en seguridad.

Jehovah sent Jerubbaal, and Barak, and Jephthah, and Samuel, and delivered you out of the hand of your enemies on every side; and you lived in safety.

12 Pero cuando visteis que Nahás, rey de los hijos de Ammón, venía contra vosotros, me dijisteis: ‘No, que reine un rey sobre nosotros’, siendo así que Yahvé, vuestro Dios, es vuestro rey.

"When you saw that Nahash the king of the people of Ammon came against you, you said to me, 'No, but a king shall reign over us;' when Jehovah your God was your king.

13 Ahora bien, aquí tenéis al rey que habéis elegido y pedido. He aquí que Yahvé ha puesto un rey sobre vosotros.

Now therefore see the king whom you have chosen, and whom you have asked for: and look, Jehovah has set a king over you.

14 Si temiereis a Yahvé y le sirviereis, y escuchareis su voz, y no fuereis rebeldes a los mandamientos de Yahvé, y si tanto vosotros, como el rey que reina sobre vosotros, siguiereis en pos de Yahvé, vuestro Dios (bien para vosotros).

If you will fear Jehovah, and serve him, and listen to his voice, and not rebel against the commandment of Jehovah, and both you and also the king who reigns over you are followers of Jehovah your God, then he will rescue you.

15 Pero si no escuchareis la voz de Yahvé, si fuereis rebeldes a los mandamientos de Yahvé, descargará sobre vosotros la mano de Yahvé como descargó sobre vuestros padres.

But if you will not listen to the voice of Jehovah, but rebel against the commandment of Jehovah, then the hand of Jehovah will be against you, and against your king to destroy you.

16 Ahora preparaos y ved este prodigio que Yahvé va a hacer ante vuestros ojos.

"Now therefore stand still and see this great thing, which Jehovah will do before your eyes.

17 ¿No estamos ahora en la siega de los trigos? Pues bien, yo invocaré a Yahvé, y Él enviará truenos y lluvias; para que sepáis y veáis cuán grande a los ojos de Yahvé es el pecado que habéis cometido, pidiendo para vosotros un rey.”

Isn't it wheat harvest today? I will call to Jehovah, that he may send thunder and rain; and you shall know and see that your wickedness is great, which you have done in the sight of Jehovah, in asking for a king."

18 Invocó, pues, Samuel a Yahvé; y Yahvé envió ese mismo día truenos y lluvias, con lo cual todo el pueblo concibió gran temor a Yahvé y a Samuel.

So Samuel called to Jehovah; and Jehovah sent thunder and rain that day: and all the people greatly feared Jehovah and Samuel.

19 Y dijo todo el pueblo a Samuel: “Ruega a Yahvé, tu Dios, por tus siervos para que no muramos; pues a todos nuestros pecados hemos añadido la maldad de pedir para nosotros un rey.”

All the people said to Samuel, "Pray for your servants to Jehovah your God, that we not die; for we have added to all our sins this evil, to ask us a king."

20 Samuel respondió al pueblo: “No temáis. Aunque habéis hecho toda esta maldad, sin embargo, no os apartéis de Yahvé, sino servid a Yahvé de todo vuestro corazón.

Samuel said to the people, "Do not be afraid. You have indeed done all this evil; yet do not turn aside from following Jehovah, but serve Jehovah with all your heart.

21 No os apartéis; porque así seguiríais en pos de vanidades que no pueden aprovecharos ni libraros, pues son vanidades.

Do not turn aside to go after vain things which can't profit nor deliver, for they are vain.

22 Porque Yahvé, a causa de su gran nombre, no abandonará a su pueblo; ya que ha querido haceros pueblo suyo.

For Jehovah will not forsake his people for his great name's sake, because it has pleased Jehovah to make you a people to himself.

23 Y en cuanto a mí, sea lejos que yo peque contra Yahvé dejando de rogar por vosotros. Os enseñaré el bueno y recto camino,

Moreover as for me, far be it from me that I should sin against Jehovah in ceasing to pray for you: but I will instruct you in the good and the right way.

24 para que temáis a Yahvé y le sirváis fielmente de todo vuestro corazón, pues ¡ved cuan grandes cosas Él ha hecho por vosotros!

Only fear Jehovah, and serve him in truth with all your heart; for consider what great things he has done for you.

25 Mas si seguís haciendo el mal, pereceréis vosotros y vuestro rey.”

But if you shall still do wickedly, you shall be swept away, both you and your king."
