1 Reyes 22
1 Pasaron tres años sin que hubiera guerra entre la Siria e Israel.
For three years Aram and Israel were not at war.
2 Mas al tercer año Josafat, rey de Judá, bajó a ver al rey de Israel.
But in the third year Jehoshaphat, king of Judah, went to visit the king of Israel.
3 Dijo entonces el rey de Israel a sus siervos: “¿No sabéis que Ramot-Galaad es nuestra? ¡Y nosotros no hacemos nada para quitársela de las manos del rey de la Siria!”
The king of Israel had said to his officers, “Aren't you aware that Ramoth-gilead really belongs to us and yet we haven't done anything to take it back from the king of Aram?”
4 Dijo, pues, a Josafat: “¿Quieres ir conmigo para atacar a Ramot- Galaad?” Respondió Josafat al rey de Israel: “Yo hago lo mismo que tú; mi pueblo es tu pueblo, mis caballos son tus caballos.”
So he asked Jehoshaphat, “Will you join me in an attack to recapture Ramoth-gilead?” Jehoshaphat replied to the king of Israel, “You and I are as one, my men and your men are as one, and my horses and your horses are as one.”
5 Josafat dijo, además, al rey de Israel: “Consulta, te ruego, hoy la palabra de Yahvé.”
Then Jehoshaphat said to the king of Israel, “But first though, please find out what the Lord says.”
6 Juntó, pues, el rey de Israel a los profetas, unos cuatrocientos hombres, y les dijo: “¿Iré a atacar a Ramot-Galaad, o desistiré?” “Sube, dijeron ellos, y el Señor la entregará en manos del rey.”
So the king of Israel brought out the prophets—four hundred of them—and he asked them, “Should I go up and attack Ramoth-gilead, or should I not?” “Yes, go ahead,” they replied, “for the Lord will hand it over to the king.”
7 Preguntó entonces Josafat: “¿No hay aquí algún profeta de Yahvé, para que por medio de él hagamos una consulta?”
But Jehoshaphat asked, “Isn't there another prophet of the Lord here that we can ask?”
8 Respondió el rey de Israel a Josafat: “Queda todavía un hombre por cuyo medio podríamos consultar a Yahvé; pero yo le aborrezco, porque nunca me profetiza cosa buena, sino solamente mala. Es Miqueas, hijo de Imlá.” Replicó Josafat: “No hable el rey así.”
“Yes, there's another man who could consult the Lord,” the king of Israel replied, “but I don't like him because he never prophesies anything good for me—it's always bad! His name is Micaiah, son of Imlah.” “You shouldn't talk like that,” said Jehoshaphat.
9 Llamó, pues, el rey de Israel a un eunuco y dijo: “Trae presto a Miqueas, hijo de Imlá.”
The king of Israel called over one of his officials and told him, “Bring me Micaiah, son of Imlah, right away.”
10 El rey de Israel y Josafat, rey de Judá, estaban sentados cada uno en su trono, vestidos de gala, en una plaza contigua a la entrada de la puerta de Samaria, y todos los profetas profetizaban delante de ellos.
Dressed in their royal robes, the king of Israel and King Jehoshaphat of Judah, were sitting on their thrones at the threshing floor beside the gate of Samaria, with all of the prophets prophesying in front of them.
11 Sedecías, hijo de Canaaná, se había hecho cuernos de hierro, y decía: “Así dice Yahvé: «Con estos acornearás a los sirios hasta acabar con ellos.»”
One of them, Zedekiah, son of Chenaanah, had made himself iron horns. He announced, “This is what the Lord says: ‘With these horns you will gore the Arameans until they're dead!”
12 Y todos los profetas profetizaban de la misma manera, diciendo: Sube a Ramot-Galaad, y tendrás éxito, pues Yahvé la entregará en manos del rey.”
All the prophets were prophesying the same thing, saying, “Go ahead, attack Ramoth-gilead; you will be successful, for the Lord will hand it over to the king.”
13 Entretanto, el mensajero que había ido a llamar a Miqueas, le habló de esta manera: “Mira cómo los oráculos de los profetas anuncian unánimemente prósperos sucesos al rey; sea, pues, tu oráculo como el oráculo de cada uno de ellos; habla favorablemente.”
The messenger who went to call Micaiah told him, “Look, all the prophets are unanimous in prophesying positively to the king. So please make sure to speak positively like them.”
14 Respondió Miqueas: “¡Vive Yahvé, que hablaré solamente lo que me dijere Yahvé!”
But Micaiah replied, “As the Lord lives, I can only say what my God tells me.”
15 Llegado al rey, este le preguntó: “Miqueas, ¿debemos ir a atacar a Ramot-Galaad, o debemos desistir?” Contestó él: “Sube y saldrás bien, pues Yahvé la entregará en manos del rey.”
When he came before the king, the king asked him, “Should we go up and attack Ramoth-gilead, or should we not?” “Yes, go ahead and be victorious,” Micaiah replied, “for the Lord will give it into the king's hand.”
16 Dijole el rey: “¿Hasta cuántas veces he de conjurarte que no me digas sino la verdad en nombre de Yahvé?”
But the king said to him, “How many times must I make you swear to tell me only the truth in the name of the Lord?”
17 Respondió (Miqueas): “Yo he visto a todo Israel disperso por las montañas, como ovejas sin pastor”; y dijo Yahvé: “Estos no tienen señor; vuélvase cada cual en paz a su casa.”
So Micaiah answered, “I saw all Israel scattered on the mountains like sheep without a shepherd. The Lord said, ‘These people have no master; let each of them go home in peace.’”
18 Dijo entonces el rey de Israel a Josafat: “¿No te dije: Este nunca me profetiza cosa buena, sino solamente mala?”
The king of Israel said to Jehoshaphat, “Didn't I tell you he never prophesies anything good for me, only bad?”
19 A lo cual contestó (Miqueas): “Oye, por tanto, el oráculo de Yahvé: He visto a Yahvé sentado sobre su trono, y todo el ejército celestial estaba alrededor de él, a su derecha y a su izquierda.
Micaiah went on to say, “So listen to what the Lord says. I saw the Lord sitting on his throne, surrounded by the whole army of heaven standing to his right and to his left.
20 Y preguntó Yahvé: «¿Quién engañara a Acab, para que suba y caiga en Ramot- Galaad?» Y habló uno de esta manera, y otro de otra.
The Lord asked, ‘Who will trick Ahab, king of Israel, into attacking Ramoth-gilead so he will be killed there?’ One said this, another said that, and another said something else.
21 En ese momento vino el (mal) espíritu, que presentándose delante de Yahvé, dijo: «Yo lo engañaré.» Yahvé le preguntó: «¿De qué manera?»
Finally a spirit came and approached the Lord and said, ‘I will trick him.’
22 Respondió él: «Saldré y seré espíritu de mentira en boca de todos sus profetas.» Y dijo Yahvé: «Tú lo engañarás y tendrás éxito. Sal, y hazlo así.»
‘How are you going to do that?’ the Lord asked. ‘I will go and be a lying spirit and make all his prophets tell lies,’ the spirit replied. ‘That will work,’ the Lord responded. ‘Go and do it.’
23 Ahora, pues, he aquí que Yahvé ha puesto un espíritu de mentira en boca de todos estos tus profetas; pues Yahvé tiene decretada contra ti la desventura.”
As you see, the Lord has put a lying spirit into these prophets of yours, and the Lord has pronounced your death sentence.”
24 Se acercó entonces Sedecías, hijo de Canaaná, y abofeteó a Miqueas, diciéndole: “¿Ha salido acaso de mí el espíritu de Yahvé, Miqueas, para hablarte a ti?”
Then Zedekiah, son of Chenaanah, went and slapped Micaiah in the face, and demanded, “Which way did the Spirit of the Lord go when he left me to speak to you?”
25 Respondió Miqueas: “Ya lo verás en aquel día en que huyas de aposento en aposento para esconderte.”
“You'll soon find out when you try and find some secret place to hide!” Micaiah replied.
26 Dijo entonces el rey de Israel (al eunuco): “Prende a Miqueas y llévalo a Amón, comandante de la ciudad, y a Joás, hijo del rey. Les dirás:
The king of Israel ordered, “Place Micaiah under arrest and take him back to Amon the governor of the city and to my son Joash.
27 Así dice el Rey: «Meted a este en la cárcel, y alimentadle con pan de aflicción, y agua de aflicción, hasta que yo regrese en paz».”
Tell them these are the king's instructions: ‘Put this man in jail. Give him only bread and water until my safe return.’”
28 A lo que dijo Miqueas: “Si tú, de veras vuelves en paz, no ha hablado Yahvé por mi boca.” Y agregó: “¡Oídlo, pueblos todos!”
“If you do in fact return safely then the Lord has not spoken through me,” Micaiah declared. “Pay attention everyone to all I've said!”
29 Subieron, pues, el rey de Israel y Josafat, rey de Judá, a Ramot- Galaad.
The king of Israel and Jehoshaphat, king of Judah, went to attack Ramoth-gilead.
30 Y dijo el rey de Israel a Josafat: “Voy a disfrazarme para la batalla, mas tú ponte tus vestiduras.” El rey de Israel se disfrazó, y se metió en la batalla.
The king of Israel told Jehoshaphat, “When I go into battle I will be in disguise, but you should wear your royal robes.” So the king of Israel disguised himself and went into battle.
31 Ahora bien, el rey de Siria había dado esta orden a los treinta y dos capitanes de sus carros: “No ataquéis a ninguno, ni chico ni grande, sino tan solo al rey de Israel.”
The king of Aram had already given these orders to his chariot commanders: “Head straight for the king of Israel alone. Don't fight with anyone else, whoever they are.”
32 Viendo, pues, los capitanes de los carros a Josafat, dijeron: “Sin duda es este el rey de Israel; y se arrojaron sobre él para atacarlo”, pero Josafat gritó;
So when the chariot commanders saw Jehoshaphat, they shouted, “This must be the king of Israel!” So they turned to attack him, but when Jehoshaphat called out for help,
33 y viendo los capitanes de los carros que no era el rey de Israel, le dejaron.
the chariot commanders saw it wasn't the king of Israel and stopped chasing him.
34 Mas un hombre tiró con un arco al azar, e hirió al rey de Israel por entre las junturas de la coraza. Dijo entonces (el rey) al conductor de su carro: “¡Vuélvete y sácame del combate, porque estoy herido!”
However, an enemy archer shot an arrow at random, hitting the king of Israel between the joints of his armor by his breastplate. The king told his charioteer, “Turn around and get me out of the fight, because I've been wounded!”
35 Arreció el combate en aquel día, mas el rey se sostenía de pie en su carro, frente a los sirios. Murió por la tarde, y la sangre de la herida corría por el fondo del carro.
The battle lasted all day. The king of Israel was propped up in his chariot to face the Arameans, but in the evening he died. The blood had poured out of his wound onto the floor of the chariot.
36 Al ponerse el sol, pasó por el campamento este grito: “¡Cada cual a su ciudad y cada cual a su tierra!”
At sunset, a shout went out from the lines: “Retreat! Every man back to his town, every man back to his own country!”
37 Así murió el rey, y fue llevado a Samaria. Allí sepultaron al rey.
So the king died. He was taken back to Samaria where they buried him.
38 Y cuando lavaron el carro junto al estanque de Samaria, donde se bañan las rameras, lamieron los perros su sangre, según la palabra que Yahvé había dicho.
They washed his chariot at a pool in Samaria where the prostitutes came to bathe, and dogs licked up his blood, just as the Lord had said.
39 Las demás cosas de Acab, y todo lo que hizo, y la casa de marfil que levantó, y todas las ciudades que edificó; ¿no está esto escrito en el libro de los anales de los reyes de Israel?
The rest of what happened in Ahab's reign, all that he did, the ivory palace he constructed and all the cities he built are recorded in the Book of Chronicles of the Kings of Israel.
40 Se durmió Acab con sus padres; y reinó en su lugar su hijo Ococías.
Ahab died and his son Ahaziah succeeded him as king.
41 Josafat, hijo de Asá, comenzó a reinar sobre Judá el año cuarto de Acab, rey de Israel.
Jehoshaphat, son of Asa, became king of Judah in the fourth year of the reign of Ahab, king of Israel.
42 Tenía Josafat treinta y cinco años cuando comenzó a reinar y reinó veinticinco años en Jerusalén. Su madre se llamaba Azubá, hija de Salai.
Jehoshaphat was thirty-five when he became king, and he reigned in Jerusalem for twenty-five years. His mother's name was Azubah, daughter of Shilhi.
43 Anduvo en todos los caminos de su padre Asá, sin apartarse de ellos, haciendo lo que era recto a los ojos de Yahvé. Sin embargo, no desaparecieron los lugares altos, y el pueblo siguió ofreciendo sacrificios y quemando incienso en los altos.
He followed all the ways of his father; he did not depart from them, and he did what was right in the Lord's sight. However, the high places were not removed and the people still sacrificed and presented offerings there.
44 Josafat vivió en paz con el rey de Israel.
Jehoshaphat also made peace with the king of Israel.
45 Las demás cosas de Josafat, las hazañas que hizo, y sus guerras ¿no está esto escrito en el libro de los anales de los reyes de Judá?
The rest of what happened in Jehoshaphat's reign, his great achievements and the wars he fought are recorded in the Book of Chronicles of the Kings of Judah.
46 Exterminó del país el resto de los hieródulos que habían quedado aún en los días de su padre Asá.
He expelled from the land any cult prostitutes who were left from the time of his father Asa.
47 No había entonces rey en Edom; reinaba un gobernador.
(At that time there was no king in Edom; only a deputy who served as king.)
48 Josafat construyó naves de Tarsis, para que fuesen a Ofir en busca de oro; mas no fueron, porque las naves se destrozaron en Esionguéber.
Jehoshaphat built sea-going ships to go to Ophir for gold, but they went because they were wrecked at Ezion-geber.
49 Dijo entonces Ococías, hijo de Acab, a Josafat: “Mis siervos podrían ir con tus siervos en las naves”, pero Josafat no quiso.
During that time Ahaziah, son of Ahab, asked Jehoshaphat, “Let my men sail with your men,” but Jehoshaphat refused.
50 Se durmió Josafat con sus padres, y fue sepultado con sus padres en la ciudad de su padre David; y reinó en su lugar su hijo Joram.
Jehoshaphat died and was buried with his forefathers in the City of David. His son Jehoram succeeded him as king.
51 Ococías, hijo de Acab, comenzó a reinar sobre Israel en Samaria el año diecisiete de Josafat, rey de Judá. Reinó sobre Israel dos años,
Ahaziah, son of Ahab, became king of Israel in Samaria in the seventeenth year of Jehoshaphat, king of Judah, and he reigned over Israel for two years.
52 e hizo lo que era malo a los ojos de Yahvé, siguiendo el camino de su padre y de su madre, y el camino de Jeroboam, hijo de Nabat, que hizo pecar a Israel.
He did what was evil in the Lord's sight and followed the ways of his father and mother, and of Jeroboam, son of Nebat, who had made Israel sin.
53 Pues sirvió a Baal y se prosternó delante de él. Así provocó a Yahvé, el Dios de Israel, haciendo todo lo que había hecho su padre.
He served Baal and worshiped him, and angered the Lord, the God of Israel, just as his father had.
