Rimljanom 13
1 Naj bo vsaka duša podrejena višjim oblastem. Kajti ni oblasti, razen od Boga; oblasti, ki so, so odrejene od Boga.
Let every soul be subject to the powers that are over them: for there is no such power but from God: the powers that are over men, are appointed by God.
2 Kdorkoli se torej upira oblasti, se upira Božji odredbi in tisti, ki se upirajo, bodo sebi prejeli obsodbo.
So that he who resisteth the power, resisteth the ordinance of God: and they that resist shall receive condemnation.
3 Kajti vladarji niso strahota dobrim delom, temveč zlim. Se torej ne boš bal oblasti? Delaj to, kar je dobro in imel boš pohvalo od nje;
For rulers are not a terror to good works, but to the evil. Wouldest thou then not be afraid of the civil power? do what is good, and thou shalt have praise from it:
4 kajti ona je Božja služabnica, tebi v dobro. Toda če počneš to, kar je zlo, se boj, ker meča ne nosi zaman; kajti Božja služabnica je, maščevalka, da izvrši bes nad tistim, ki počenja zlo.
for he is the minister of God to thee for good. But if thou dost evil, be afraid; for he beareth not the sword in vain: for he is also the minister of God, as an avenger to execute his wrath upon the malefactor.
5 Zatorej morate biti nujno podrejeni, ne samo zaradi besa, temveč tudi zaradi vesti.
Wherefore it is necessary to submit, not only on account of punishment, but also of conscience.
6 Kajti zaradi tega razloga tudi plačujete davek, kajti oni so Božji služabniki, ki nenehno skrbijo prav za to stvar.
For you pay them tribute also for this reason; because they are God's ministers, continually attending hereunto.
7 Povrnite torej vsem njihove dolgove: davek, komur gre davek, carino, komur carino, strah, komur strah, spoštovanje, komur spoštovanje.
Render therefore to all what is their due: tribute to whom tribute is due, custom to whom custom, reverence to whom reverence, honor to whom honor.
8 Nobenemu človeku ničesar ne dolgujte, razen da ljubite drug drugega; kajti kdor ljubi drugega, je izpolnil postavo.
Owe no one any thing, but to love one another; for he that loveth others hath fulfilled the law:
9 Zaradi tega: ›Ne boš zagrešil zakonolomstva, ‹ ›Ne boš ubil, ‹ ›Ne boš kradel, ‹ ›Ne boš pričal po krivem, ‹ ›Ne boš požêlel; ‹ in če obstaja katera druga zapoved, je le-ta na kratko obsežena v tej besedi, namreč: ›Ljubil boš svojega bližnjega kakor samega sebe.‹
for this command, Thou shalt not commit adultery, Thou shalt not kill, Thou shalt not steal, Thou shalt not bear false witness, Thou shalt not covet, and every other social precept, is summed up in this, namely, "Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself."
10 Ljubezen svojemu bližnjemu ne dela škode; torej je ljubezen izpolnitev postave.
Love worketh no evil to our neighbour: therefore love is the fulfilling of the law.
11 In ker poznamo čas, da je sedaj skrajni čas, da se prebudimo iz spanja, kajti sedaj je naša rešitev duš bližje, kakor ko smo [začeli] verovati.
And this let us observe, knowing the time, that now it is high time to awake out of sleep; for now is our salvation nearer than when we first believed.
12 Noč je davno minila, dan je blizu. Odvrzimo torej dela teme in si nadenimo bojno opremo svetlobe.
The night is far spent, the day is at hand: let us therefore cast off the works of darkness, and let us put on the armour of light.
13 Živimo pošteno, kakor podnevi; ne v upornosti in pijanosti, ne v nespodobnosti in razuzdanosti, ne v prepiru in zavisti.
Let us behave decently as being in the day; not in rioting and drunkenness, not in lewdness and lasciviousness, not in strife and envying.
14 Temveč si nadenite Gospoda Jezusa Kristusa in ne delajte si preskrbe za meso, da [bi] izpolnili poželenja le-tega.
But put on the Lord Jesus, and make not provision for the flesh to gratify its irregular desires.
