Psalmi 124

1 Če ne bi bil Gospod, ki je bil na naši strani, lahko sedaj reče Izrael,

A song for pilgrims going up to Jerusalem. A psalm of David. If the Lord hadn't been for us, what would have happened? Let everyone in Israel say:

2 če ne bi bil Gospod, ki je bil na naši strani, ko so ljudje vstali zoper nas,

If the Lord hadn't been for us, what would have happened when people came and attacked us?

3 tedaj [bi] nas žive požrli, ko je bil njihov bes vžgan zoper nas,

They would have swallowed us alive when their anger raged against us.

4 tedaj [bi] nas vode preplavile, vodni tok [bi] tekel preko naše duše,

Like a flood they would have swept over us; like a rushing torrent they would have submerged us.

5 tedaj [bi] vode ponosa tekle preko naše duše.

They would have rushed over us like raging waters, drowning us.

6 Blagoslovljen [bodi] Gospod, ki nas ni izročil njihovim zobem kakor plen.

Praise the Lord, who didn't hand us over to them as prey to be ripped apart by their teeth.

7 Naša duša je kakor ptica ušla iz zanke ptičarjev; zanka je pretrgana in mi smo ušli.

We escaped from them like a bird flying out of a hunter's trap. The trap was broken and we flew away!

8 Naša pomoč je v imenu Gospodovem, ki je naredil nebo in zemljo.

Our help comes from the Lord, who made heaven and earth.
