1 Pregovori Salomona, Davidovega sina, Izraelovega kralja,
The proverbs of Solomon, the son of David, king of Israel:
2 da bi spoznali modrost in poučevanje, da bi zaznali besede razumevanja,
That one may learn wisdom and instruction, And receive words of understanding;
3 da bi sprejeli poučevanje modrosti, pravice, sodbe in nepristranskost;
That one may gain the instruction of prudence, Justice, equity, and uprightness;
4 da bi dali premetenost preprostemu, mladeniču spoznanje in preudarnost.
Which will give caution to the simple, To the young man wisdom and discretion;
5 Moder človek bo slišal in bo povečal učenje in razumen človek se bo dokopal k modrim nasvetom,
Let the wise man hear, and he will increase his knowledge, And the man of understanding will gain wise counsels;
6 da bo razumel pregovor in razlago, besede modrih in njihove temne izreke.
So as to understand a proverb and a deep maxim, The words of the wise and their dark sayings.
7 Strah Gospodov je začetek spoznanja, toda bedaki prezirajo modrost in poučevanje.
The fear of the LORD is the beginning of knowledge; Fools despise wisdom and instruction.
8 Moj sin, prisluhni poučevanju svojega očeta in ne zapusti postave svoje matere,
Hear, O my son! the instruction of thy father, And neglect not the teaching of thy mother!
9 kajti ona bosta ornament milosti tvoji glavi in verižici okoli tvojega vratu.
For they shall be a graceful wreath for thy head, And a chain around thy neck.
10 Moj sin, če te grešniki privabljajo, ne privoli.
My son, if sinners entice thee, Consent thou not!
11 Če rečejo: »Pridi z nami, v zasedi prežimo na kri, brez razloga se tajno pritajimo za nedolžnega,
If they say, “Come with us, Let us lie in wait for blood, Let us lurk secretly for him who is innocent in vain;
Let us swallow them up alive, like the underworld, Yea, in full health, as those that go down into the pit; (Sheol h7585)
13 Našli bomo vse dragoceno imetje, svoje hiše bomo napolnili z ukradenim blagom.
We shall find all kinds of precious substance, We shall fill our houses with spoil;
14 Svoj žreb vrzi med nas, vsi imejmo eno mošnjo.«
Thou shalt cast thy lot among us; We will all have one purse;”—
15 Moj sin, ne hodi z njimi na pot, svoje stopalo zadrži pred njihovo stezo,
My son, walk thou not in their way, Refrain thy foot from their path!
16 kajti njihova stopala tečejo k zlu in hitijo, da prelijejo kri.
For their feet run to evil, And make haste to shed blood.
17 Zagotovo je zaman razprostrta mreža v očeh katerekoli ptice.
For as the net is spread in vain Before the eyes of any bird,
18 In oni prežijo v zasedi na svojo lastno kri, tajno se pritajijo za svoja lastna življenja.
So they lie in wait for their own blood; They lurk secretly for their own lives.
19 Takšne so poti vsakega, ki je pohlepen dobička, ki odvzema življenje svojim lastnikom.
Such are the ways of every one greedy of unjust gain; It taketh away the life of the possessor thereof.
20 Modrost kliče zunaj, svoj glas izreka na ulicah,
Wisdom crieth out in the highway; In the market-place she uttereth her voice;
21 kliče na glavnem kraju vrveža, v odprtinah velikih vrat, v mestu izreka svoje besede, rekoč:
At the head of the noisy streets she crieth aloud; At the entrances of the gates, throughout the city, she proclaimeth her words [[saying]]:
22 »Doklej boste, vi topi, ljubili topost? In se posmehljivci razveseljevali v svojem posmehovanju in bedaki sovražili spoznanje?
How long, ye simple ones, will ye love simplicity? How long will scoffers delight themselves in scoffing, And fools hate knowledge?
23 Obrnite se na moj opomin. Glejte, na vas bom izlila svojega duha, razglašala vam bom svoje besede.
Turn ye at my reproof! Behold, I will pour out my spirit to you; I will make known my words to you!
24 Ker sem klicala, pa ste odklonili, iztegovala sem svojo roko, pa noben človek ni upošteval,
“Because I have called, and ye have refused, —Because I have stretched out my hand, and no one hath regarded.
25 temveč ste zaničevali vse moje svetovanje in niste hoteli mojega opomina,
Because ye have rejected all my counsel, And have slighted my rebuke, —
26 se bom tudi jaz smejala ob vaši katastrofi, zasmehovala bom, ko pride vaš strah,
I also will laugh at your calamity, I will mock when your fear cometh;
27 ko prihaja vaš strah kakor opustošenje in vaše uničenje kakor vrtinčast veter, ko nad vas prihajata tegoba in tesnoba.
When your fear cometh upon you like a storm. And destruction overtaketh you like a whirlwind, When distress and anguish come upon you.
28 Tedaj se bodo obračali name, toda ne bom jim odgovorila, iskali me bodo zgodaj, toda ne bodo me našli,
Then will they call upon me, but I will not answer! They will seek me early, But they shall not find me!
29 ker so sovražili spoznanje in niso izbrali strahu Gospodovega.
Because they have hated knowledge, And have not chosen the fear of the LORD, —
30 Ničesar niso hoteli od mojega nasveta. Prezirali so vsak moj opomin.
Because they would not attend to my counsel, And have despised all my reproof, —
31 Zato bodo jedli od sadu svoje lastne poti in napolnjeni bodo s svojimi lastnimi naklepi.
Therefore shall they eat of the fruit of their own way, And be filled to the full with their own devices;
32 Kajti odvračanje od preprostosti jih bo ubilo in uspevanje bedakov jih bo uničilo.
Yea, the turning away of the simple shall slay them, And the carelessness of fools shall destroy them.
33 Toda kdorkoli me posluša, bo varno prebival in bo miren pred strahom zla.«
But whoso hearkeneth to me shall dwell securely, And shall not be disquieted with the fear of evil.”
