1 Moj sin, drži se mojih besed in moje zapovedi shrani s seboj.
My son, keep my words and store up my commands within yourself.
2 Ohranjaj moje zapovedi in živi in mojo postavo [ohranjaj] kakor punčico svojega očesa.
Keep my commands and live and keep my instruction as the apple of your eye.
3 Priveži si jih na svoje prste, zapiši jih na tablo svojega srca.
Tie them on your fingers; write them on the tablet of your heart.
4 Modrosti reci: »Ti si moja sestra« in razumevanje imenuj svojo sorodnico,
Say to wisdom, “You are my sister,” and call understanding your kinsman,
5 da te lahko obvarujejo pred tujo žensko, pred tujko, ki laska s svojimi besedami.
in order to keep yourself from the adulterous woman, from the immoral woman with her smooth words.
6 Kajti pri oknu svoje hiše sem pogledal skozi oknico

9 v poltemi, zvečer, v črnini temne noči
It was twilight, in the evening of the day, at the time of night and darkness.
10 in glej, tam ga je srečala ženska z okrasom pocestnice in premetenega srca.
There a woman met him, dressed like a prostitute, with a false heart.
11 (Ona je glasna in trmoglava, njena stopala ne ostanejo v njeni hiši,

16 Svojo posteljo sem odela s pokrivali iz tapiserije, z rezbarskimi deli, s tankim lanenim platnom iz Egipta.
I have spread coverings on my bed, colored linens from Egypt.
17 Svojo posteljo sem odišavila z miro, alojo in cimetom.
I have sprinkled my bed with myrrh, aloes, and cinnamon.
18 Pridi, vzemiva si najino nasičevanje ljubezni do jutra, tolaživa se z ljubeznimi.
Come, let us drink our fill of love until morning; let us take great pleasure in acts of love.
19 Kajti moža ni doma, odšel je [na] dolgo potovanje.
For my husband is not at his house; he has gone on a long journey.
20 S seboj je vzel torbo denarja in domov bo prišel na določen dan.«
He took a bag of money with him; he will return on the day of the full moon.”
21 Z mnogo njenega vljudnega govorjenja je storila, da je popustil, z laskanjem svojih ustnic ga je prisilila.
With much talk she turned him; with her smooth lips she misled him.
22 Nemudoma gre za njo, kakor gre vol v klanje ali kakor bedak h grajanju živine,
He went after her suddenly like an ox going to slaughter, like a deer caught in a trap,

Now, my sons, listen to me; pay attention to the words of my mouth.
25 Naj se tvoje srce na nagne k njenim potem, ne zaidi na njene steze.
May your heart not turn aside onto her paths; do not be led astray onto her paths.
26 Kajti ona je vrgla dol mnogo ranjenih, da, mnogo močnih mož je bilo umorjenih po njej.
She has caused many people to fall down pierced; her dead victims are very many.
