1 Prisluhnite, vi otroci, poučevanju očeta in pazite, da spoznate razumevanje.
Sones, here ye the teching of the fadir; and perseiue ye, that ye kunne prudence.
2 Kajti dajem vam dober nauk, ne zapustite moje postave.
Y schal yyue to you a good yifte; forsake ye not my lawe.
3 Kajti jaz sem bil sin svojega očeta, nežen in edini ljubljen v očeh svoje matere.
For whi and Y was the sone of my fadir, a tendir sone, and oon `gendride bifore my modir.
4 Tudi učil me je in mi rekel: »Tvoje srce naj ohrani moje besede. Drži se mojih zapovedi in živi.
And my fadir tauyte me, and seide, Thin herte resseyue my wordis; kepe thou myn heestis, and thou schalt lyue.
5 Pridobivaj modrost, pridobivaj razumevanje, tega ne pozabi niti se ne nagni od besed iz mojih ust.
Welde thou wisdom, welde thou prudence; foryete thou not, nethir bowe thou awey fro the wordis of my mouth.

7 Modrost je glavna stvar, zato pridobivaj modrost in z vsem svojim dobičkom pridobivaj razumevanje.

8 Poveličuj jo, pa te bo povišala, prinesla ti bo čast, ko jo boš objemal.

9 Tvoji glavi bo dala ornament milosti, izročila ti bo krono slave.«

10 Prisluhni, oh moj sin in sprejmi moje izreke in mnogo bo let tvojega življenja.
Mi sone, here thou, and take my wordis; that the yeris of lijf be multiplied to thee.
11 Učil sem te na poti modrosti, vodil sem te po pravih poteh.
Y schal schewe to thee the weie of wisdom; and Y schal lede thee bi the pathis of equyte.
12 Kadar greš, tvoje stopinje ne bodo utesnjene in kadar tečeš, se ne boš spotaknil.
In to whiche whanne thou hast entrid, thi goyngis schulen not be maad streit; and thou schalt rennen, and schalt not haue hirtyng.
13 Trdno se oprimi poučevanja, naj ona ne odide. Obdrži jo, kajti ona je tvoje življenje.
Holde thou teching, and forsake it not; kepe thou it, for it is thi lijf.
14 Ne stopaj na pot zlobnih in ne hodi po stezi zlobnih ljudi.
Delite thou not in the pathis of wyckid men; and the weie of yuele men plese not thee.
15 Izogibaj se je, ne hodi mimo nje in obrni se od nje ter pojdi proč.
Fle thou fro it, and passe thou not therbi; bowe thou awei, and forsake it.
16 Kajti oni ne spijo, razen če niso storili vragolije in njihovo spanje je odvzeto, razen če nekomu ne povzročijo, da pade.

21 Naj le-ti ne odidejo od tvojih oči, obdrži jih v sredi svojega srca.
Go not tho awei fro thyn iyen; kepe thou hem in the myddil of thin herte.
22 Kajti življenje so tistim, ki jih najdejo in zdravje vsemu njihovemu mesu.
For tho ben lijf to men fyndynge thoo, and heelthe `of al fleisch.
23 Svoje srce varuj z vso marljivostjo, kajti iz njega so zadeve življenja.
With al keping kepe thin herte, for lijf cometh forth of it.
24 Kljubovalna usta daj od sebe in sprevržene ustnice odloži daleč stran od sebe.
Remoue thou a schrewid mouth fro thee; and backbitynge lippis be fer fro thee.
25 Tvoje oči naj gledajo naravnost in tvoje veke naj gledajo neposredno pred teboj.
Thin iyen se riytful thingis; and thin iyeliddis go bifore thi steppis.
26 Preudari stezo svojih stopal in vse tvoje poti naj bodo utrjene.
Dresse thou pathis to thi feet, and alle thi weies schulen be stablischid.
27 Ne obrni se ne k desni roki niti ne k levi, svoje stopalo odstrani od zla.
Bowe thou not to the riytside, nether to the leftside; turne awei thi foot fro yuel. For the Lord knowith the weies that ben at the riytside; but the weies ben weiward, that ben at the leftside. Forsothe he schal make thi goyngis riytful; and thi weies schulen be brouyt forth in pees.
