1 Vsaka modra ženska gradi svojo hišo, toda nespametna jo ruši s svojimi rokami.
The wisdom of women buildeth their house; but folly plucketh it down with her hands.
2 Kdor hodi v svoji poštenosti, se boji Gospoda, toda kdor je sprevržen na svojih poteh, ga prezira.
He that walketh in his uprightness feareth Jehovah; but he that is perverted in his ways despiseth him.
3 V ustih nespametnih je šiba ponosa, toda ustnice modrih jih bodo varovale.
In the fool's mouth is a rod of pride; but the lips of the wise shall preserve them.
4 Kjer ni volov, so jasli čiste, toda mnogo povečanje je z volovsko močjo.
Where no oxen are, the crib is clean; but much increase is by the strength of the ox.
5 Zvesta priča ne bo lagala, toda kriva priča bo izrekala laži.
A faithful witness will not lie; but a false witness uttereth lies.
6 Posmehljivec išče modrost, pa je ne najde, toda spoznanje je lahko tistemu, ki razume.
A scorner seeketh wisdom, and there is none [for him]; but knowledge is easy unto the intelligent.
7 Pojdi izpred prisotnosti nespametnega človeka, kadar v njem ne zaznavaš ustnic spoznanja.
Go from the presence of a foolish man, in whom thou perceivest not the lips of knowledge.
8 Modrost razsodnega je razumeti svojo pot, toda neumnost bedakov je prevara.
The wisdom of the prudent is to discern his way; but the folly of the foolish is deceit.
9 Bedaki se posmehujejo ob grehu, toda med pravičnimi je naklonjenost.
Fools make a mock at trespass; but for the upright there is favour.
10 Srce pozna svojo lastno grenkobo in tujec se ne vmešava s svojo radostjo.
The heart knoweth its own bitterness, and a stranger doth not intermeddle with its joy.
11 Hiša zlobnega bo zrušena, toda šotor iskrenega bo cvetel.
The house of the wicked shall be overthrown; but the tent of the upright shall flourish.
12 Obstaja pot, ki se zdi človeku prava, toda njen konec so poti smrti.
There is a way that seemeth right unto a man, but the end thereof is the ways of death.
13 Celo v smehu je srce žalostno in konec tega veselja je potrtost.
Even in laughter the heart is sorrowful, and the end of mirth is sadness.
14 Odpadnik v srcu bo nasičen s svojimi lastnimi potmi, dober človek pa bo zadovoljen sam od sebe.
The backslider in heart shall be filled with his own ways, and the good man from what is in himself.
15 Naivnež verjame vsaki besedi, toda razsoden človek dobro pazi na svojo hojo.
The simple believeth every word; but the prudent [man] heedeth his going.
16 Moder človek se boji in se oddaljuje od zla, toda bedak besni in je samozavesten.
A wise [man] feareth and departeth from evil; but the foolish is overbearing and confident.
17 Kdor je hitro jezen, se vede nespametno, človek zlobnih naklepov pa je osovražen.
He that is soon angry dealeth foolishly, and a man of mischievous devices is hated.
18 Naivneži podedujejo neumnost, toda razsodni so kronani s spoznanjem.
The simple inherit folly; but the prudent are crowned with knowledge.
19 Zlobni se priklanjajo pred dobrimi in zlobni pri velikih vratih pravičnih.
The evil bow before the good, and the wicked at the gates of the righteous [man].
20 Ubogi je osovražen celo od svojega lastnega soseda, toda bogati ima mnogo prijateljev.
He that is poor is hated even of his own neighbour; but the rich hath many friends.
21 Kdor prezira svojega soseda, greši, toda kdor ima usmiljenje do ubogega, je srečen.
He that despiseth his neighbour sinneth; but he that is gracious to the afflicted, happy is he.
22 Mar se ne motijo tisti, ki snujejo zlo? Toda usmiljenje in resnica bosta tem, ki snujejo dobro.
Do they not err that devise evil? but loving-kindness and truth are for those that devise good.
23 V vsem trudu je korist, toda govorjenje ustnic se nagiba samo k ubožnosti.
In all labour there is profit; but the talk of the lips [tendeth] only to want.
24 Krona modrih so njihova bogastva, toda nespametnost bedakov je neumnost.
The crown of the wise is their riches; the folly of the foolish is folly.
25 Poštena priča osvobaja duše, toda varljiva priča govori laži.
A true witness delivereth souls; but deceit uttereth lies.
26 V strahu Gospodovem je močno zaupanje in njegovi otroci bodo imeli kraj zatočišča.
In the fear of Jehovah is strong confidence, and his children shall have a place of refuge.
27 Strah Gospodov je studenec življenja, da se odide od zank smrti.
The fear of Jehovah is a fountain of life, to turn away from the snares of death.
28 V množici ljudstva je kraljeva čast, toda v pomanjkanju ljudstva je uničenje princa.
In the multitude of people is the king's glory; but in the lack of people is the ruin of a prince.
29 Kdor je počasen za bes, ima veliko razumevanja, toda kdor je naglega duha, povišuje neumnost.
He that is slow to anger is of great understanding; but he that is hasty of spirit exalteth folly.
30 Zdravo srce je življenje mesu, toda zavist gniloba kostem.
A sound heart is the life of the flesh; but envy the rottenness of the bones.
31 Kdor zatira ubogega, graja njegovega Stvarnika, toda kdor ga časti, ima usmiljenje do ubogih.
He that oppresseth the poor reproacheth his Maker; but he that honoureth Him is gracious to the needy.
32 Zlobni je v svoji zlobnosti odpeljan proč, toda pravični ima upanje v svoji smrti.
The wicked is driven away by his evil-doing; but the righteous trusteth, [even] in his death.
33 Modrost počiva v srcu tistega, ki ima razumevanje, toda tisti, ki je v sredi bedakov, je spoznan.
Wisdom resteth in the heart of the intelligent [man]; but that which is in the foolish maketh itself known.
34 Pravičnost povišuje narod, toda greh je očitek kateremukoli ljudstvu.
Righteousness exalteth a nation; but sin is a reproach to peoples.
35 Kraljeva naklonjenost je k modremu služabniku, toda njegov bes je zoper tistega, ki povzroča sramoto.
The king's favour is toward a wise servant; but his wrath is [against] him that causeth shame.
