1 Gospod je spregovoril Mojzesu, rekoč:
Yahweh spoke to Moses, saying,
2 »Govori Izraelovim otrokom in vzemi od vsakega izmed njih palico glede na hišo njihovih očetov, od vseh njihovih princev glede na hišo njihovih očetov, dvanajst palic. Ime vsakega moža zapiši na njegovo palico.
“Speak to the children of Israel, and take rods from them, one for each fathers’ house, of all their princes according to their fathers’ houses, twelve rods. Write each man’s name on his rod.
3 Aronovo ime boš zapisal na Lévijevo palico, kajti ena palica bo za poglavarja hiše njihovih očetov.
You shall write Aaron’s name on Levi’s rod. There shall be one rod for each head of their fathers’ houses.
4 Položil jih boš v šotorsko svetišče skupnosti, pred pričevanje, kjer se bom srečal s teboj.
You shall lay them up in the Tent of Meeting before the covenant, where I meet with you.
5 In zgodilo se bo, da bo palica moža, ki ga bom jaz izbral, zacvetela in naredil bom, da pred menoj prenehajo mrmranja Izraelovih otrok, s čimer so mrmrali zoper vaju.«
It shall happen that the rod of the man whom I shall choose shall bud. I will make the murmurings of the children of Israel, which they murmur against you, cease from me.”
6 Mojzes je spregovoril Izraelovim otrokom in vsak izmed njihovih princev mu je dal palico, za vsakega princa eno, glede na hiše njihovih očetov, torej dvanajst palic in Aronova palica je bila med njihovimi palicami.
Moses spoke to the children of Israel; and all their princes gave him rods, for each prince one, according to their fathers’ houses, a total of twelve rods. Aaron’s rod was among their rods.
7 Mojzes je palice položil pred Gospoda v šotorskem svetišču pričevanja.
Moses laid up the rods before Yahweh in the Tent of the Testimony.
8 Pripetilo se je, da je naslednji dan Mojzes odšel v šotorsko svetišče pričevanja in glej, Aronova palica, za Lévijevo hišo, je vzbrstela, pognala brste, pokazala cvetove in obrodila mandlje.
On the next day, Moses went into the Tent of the Testimony; and behold, Aaron’s rod for the house of Levi had sprouted, budded, produced blossoms, and bore ripe almonds.
9 Mojzes je vse palice prinesel izpred Gospoda k vsem Izraelovim otrokom. Pogledali so in vsak mož je vzel svojo palico.
Moses brought out all the rods from before Yahweh to all the children of Israel. They looked, and each man took his rod.
10 Gospod je rekel Mojzesu: »Aronovo palico ponovno prinesi pred pričevanje, da bo kot simbol ohranjena zoper upornike, in njihova mrmranja boš popolnoma odvzel od mene, da ne bodo pomrli.«
Yahweh said to Moses, “Put back the rod of Aaron before the covenant, to be kept for a token against the children of rebellion; that you may make an end of their complaining against me, that they not die.”
11 Mojzes je storil tako. Kakor mu je Gospod zapovedal, tako je storil.
Moses did so. As Yahweh commanded him, so he did.
12 Izraelovi otroci so govorili Mojzesu, rekoč: »Glej, umiramo, izginjamo, mi vsi izginjamo.
The children of Israel spoke to Moses, saying, “Behold, we perish! We are undone! We are all undone!
13 Kdorkoli prihaja kakorkoli blizu Gospodovega šotorskega svetišča bo umrl. Mar bomo použiti z umirajočimi?«
Everyone who keeps approaching Yahweh’s tabernacle, dies! Will we all perish?”
