1 Torej po Józuetovi smrti se je pripetilo, da so Izraelovi otroci vprašali Gospoda, rekoč: »Kdo bo za nas najprej šel gor zoper Kánaance, da se bori zoper njih?«

After that Ioshua was dead, the children of Israel asked ye Lord, saying, Who shall goe vp for vs against the Canaanites, to fight first against them?

2 Gospod je rekel: »Juda bo šel gor. Glejte, deželo sem izročil v njegovo roko.«

And the Lord said, Iudah shall goe vp: behold, I haue giuen the land into his hande.

3 Juda je svojemu bratu Simeonu rekel: »Pridi gor z menoj v moj žreb, da se bova lahko borila zoper Kánaance in prav tako bom tudi jaz šel s teboj v tvoj žreb.« Tako je Simeon odšel z njim.

And Iudah said vnto Simeon his brother, Come vp with me into my lot, that we may fight against the Canaanites: and I likewise will goe with thee into thy lot: so Simeon went with him.

4 Juda je odšel gor in Gospod je Kánaance in Perizéjce izročil v njuno roko in izmed njih sta v Bezeku usmrtila deset tisoč mož.

Then Iudah went vp, and the Lord deliuered the Canaanites and the Perizzites into their hands, and they slew of them in Bezek ten thousand men.

5 V Bezeku sta našla Adoní Bezeka in se borila zoper njega ter usmrtila Kánaance in Perizéjce.

And they founde Adoni-bezek in Bezek: and they fought against him, and slewe the Canaanites, and the Perizzites.

6 Toda Adoní Bezek je pobegnil in sledila sta za njim, ga ujela ter odsekala njegova palca in velika prsta na njegovih stopalih.

But Adoni-bezek fled, and they pursued after him, and caught him, and cut off the thumbes of his hands and of his feete.

7 Adoní Bezek je rekel: »Sedemdeset kraljev, ki imajo odsekane svoje palce in svoje palce na stopalih, je svojo hrano pobiralo pod mojo mizo. Kakor sem jaz storil, tako mi je Bog poplačal.« In odvedla sta ga v Jeruzalem in tam je umrl.

And Adoni-bezek said, Seuentie Kings hauing the thumbes of their hands and of their feete cut off, gathered bread vnder my table: as I haue done, so God hath rewarded me. so they brought him to Ierusalem, and there he died.

8 Torej Judovi otroci so se borili zoper Jeruzalem, ga zavzeli, udarili z ostrino meča in zažgali mesto.

(Nowe the children of Iudah had fought against Ierusalem, and had taken it and smitten it with the edge of the sworde, and had set the citie on fire.)

9 Potem so Judovi otroci odšli dol, da se borijo zoper Kánaance, ki prebivajo na gori, na jugu in v dolini.

Afterwarde also the children of Iudah went downe to fight against the Canaanites, that dwelt in the mountaine, and towarde the South, and in the lowe countrey.

10 Juda je odšel zoper Kánaance, ki prebivajo v Hebrónu (torej ime Hebróna je bilo prej Kirját Arba) in usmrtili so Šešája, Ahimána in Talmája.

And Iudah went against the Canaanites that dwelt in Hebron, which Hebron beforetime was called Kiriath-arba: and they slewe Sheshai, and Ahiman and Talmai.

11 Od tam je odšel zoper prebivalce Debírja. Ime Debírja pa je bilo prej Kirját Sefer.

And from thence hee went to the inhabitantes of Debir, and the name of Debir in olde time was Kiriath-sepher.

12 Kaléb je rekel: »Kdor udari Kirját Sefer in ga zavzame, njemu bom dal svojo hčer Ahso za ženo.«

And Caleb saide, He that smiteth Kiriath-sepher, and taketh it, euen to him wil I giue Achsah my daughter to wife.

13 Zavzel ga je Kenázov sin Otniél, Kalébov mlajši brat in dal mu je svojo hčer Ahso za ženo.

And Othniel the sonne of Kenaz Calebs yonger brother tooke it, to whome hee gaue Achsah his daughter to wife.

14 Ko je prišla k njemu se je pripetilo, da ga je primorala, da prosi od svojega očeta polje in razjahala je svojega osla in Kaléb ji je rekel: »Kaj hočeš?«

And when shee came to him, shee mooued him to aske of her father a field, and shee lighted off her asse, and Caleb saide vnto her, What wilt thou?

15 Rekla mu je: »Daj mi blagoslov, kajti dal si mi južno deželo; daj mi tudi vodne izvire.« In Kaléb ji je dal gornje izvire in spodnje izvire.

And shee answered him, Giue mee a blessing: for thou hast giuen me a South countrey, giue me also springs of water: and Caleb gaue her the springs aboue and the springs beneath.

16 Otroci Kenéjca, Mojzesovega tasta, so z Judovimi otroki odšli gor iz mesta palmovih dreves v Judovo divjino, ki leži na jugu Aráda in odšli so ter prebivali med ljudstvom.

And the childre of Keni Moses father in law went vp out of the citie of the palme trees with the children of Iudah, into the wildernesse of Iudah, that lieth in the South of Arad, and went and dwelt among the people.

17 Juda je odšel s svojim bratom Simeonom in usmrtili so Kánaance, ki naseljujejo Cefát in ga popolnoma uničili. Ime mesta se je imenovalo Horma.

But Iudah went with Simeon his brother, and they slewe the Canaanites that inhabited Zephath, and vtterly destroied it, and called the name of the citie Hormah.

18 Juda je zavzel tudi Gazo z njenimi pokrajinami, Aškelón z njegovimi pokrajinami in Ekrón z njegovimi pokrajinami.

Also Iudah tooke Azzah with the coasts thereof, and Askelon with the coasts thereof, and Ekron with the coastes thereof.

19 Gospod je bil z Judom in napodil je prebivalce gore, toda ni mogel napoditi prebivalcev doline, ker so imeli železne vozove.

And the Lord was with Iudah, and he possessed the mountaines: for he could not driue out the inhabitantes of the valleis, because they had charrets of yron.

20 Hebrón so dali Kalébu, kakor je rekel Mojzes, in od tam je izgnal tri Anákove sinove.

And they gaue Hebron vnto Caleb, as Moses had saide, and hee expelled thence the three sonnes of Anak.

21 Benjaminovi otroci pa niso napodili Jebusejcev, ki so naseljevali Jeruzalem, temveč Jebusejci prebivajo z Benjaminovimi otroki v Jeruzalemu do današnjega dne.

But the children of Beniamin did not cast out the Iebusites, that inhabited Ierusalem: therefore the Iebusites dwell with the children of Beniamin in Ierusalem vnto this day.

22 Jožefova hiša, tudi oni so se dvignili zoper Betel in Gospod je bil z njimi.

They also that were of the house of Ioseph, went vp to Beth-el, and the Lord was with them,

23 Jožefova hiša je poslala, da razišče Betel. (Torej ime mesta je bilo prej Luz.)

And the house of Ioseph caused to viewe Beth-el (and the name of the citie beforetime was Luz)

24 Ogledniki so videli moža priti iz mesta in mu rekli: »Pokaži nam, prosimo te, vhod v mesto, mi pa ti bomo izkazali usmiljenje.«

And the spies sawe a man come out of the citie, and they saide vnto him, Shewe vs, we praie thee, the way into the citie, and we will shewe thee mercie.

25 Ko jim je ta pokazal vhod v mesto, potem so mesto udarili z ostrino meča, toda spustili so moža in vso njegovo družino.

And when hee had shewed them the waie into the citie, they smote the citie with the edge of the sworde, but they let the man and all his housholde depart.

26 Mož je odšel v deželo Hetejcev, zgradil mesto in njegovo ime imenoval Luz, kar je njegovo ime do današnjega dne.

Then the man went into the lande of the Hittites, and built a citie, and called the name thereof Luz, which is the name thereof vnto this daie.

27 Niti Manáse ni napodil prebivalcev Bet Šeána in njegovih mest, niti Taanáha in njegovih mest, niti prebivalcev Dora in njegovih mest, niti prebivalcev Jibleáma in njegovih mest, niti prebivalcev Megída in njenih mest, temveč so Kánaanci hoteli prebivati v tej deželi.

Neither did Manasseh destroie Bethshean with her townes, nor Taanach with her townes, nor the inhabitantes of Dor with her townes, nor the inhabitants of Ibleam with her townes, neither the inhabitants of Megiddo with her townes: but the Canaanites dwelled still in that lande.

28 Pripetilo se je, ko je bil Izrael močan, da so Kánaance podvrgli davku, niso pa jih popolnoma pognali ven.

Neuerthelesse when Israel was strong, they put the Canaanites to tribute, and expelled them not wholly.

29 Niti ni Efrájim napodil Kánaancev, ki prebivajo v Gezerju, temveč Kánaanci prebivajo med njimi v Gezerju.

Likewise Ephraim expelled not the Canaanites that dwelt in Gezer, but the Canaanites dwelt in Gezer among them.

30 Niti ni Zábulon napodil prebivalcev Kitróna niti prebivalcev Nahalóla, temveč so Kánaanci prebivali med njimi in postali so davkoplačevalci.

Neither did Zebulun expell the inhabitants of Kitron, nor the inhabitants of Nahalol, but the Canaanites dwelt among them, and became tributaries.

31 Niti ni Aser napodil prebivalcev Aka, niti prebivalcev Sidóna, niti Ahalaba, niti Ahzíba, niti Helbe, niti Aféke, niti Rehóba,

Neither did Asher cast out the inhabitants of Accho, nor the inhabitants of Zidon, nor of Ahlab, nor of Achzib, nor of Helbah, nor of Aphik, nor of Rehob,

32 temveč so Aserjevci prebivali med Kánaanci, prebivalci dežele, kajti niso jih pognali ven.

But the Asherites dwelt among the Canaanites the inhabitantes of the lande: for they did not driue them out.

33 Niti ni Neftáli napodil prebivalcev Bet Šemeša niti prebivalcev Bet Anáta, temveč je prebival med Kánaanci, prebivalci dežele. Kljub temu so jim prebivalci Bet Šemeša in Bet Anáta postali davkoplačevalci.

Neither did Naphtali driue out the inhabitants of Beth-shemesh, nor the inhabitants of Beth-anath, but dwelt among the Canaanites the inhabitants of the lande: neuerthelesse the inhabitantes of Beth-shemesh, and of Beth-anath became tributaries vnto them.

34 Amoréjci pa so Danove otroke potisnili na goro, kajti niso jim hoteli pustiti, da pridejo dol k dolini,

And the Amorites droue the children of Dan into the mountaine: so that they suffered them not to come downe to the valley.

35 temveč so Amoréjci hoteli prebivati na gori Heres v Ajalónu in v Šaalbímu. Vendar je roka Jožefove hiše prevladala, tako da so postali davkoplačevalci.

And the Ammonites dwelt still in mount Heres in Aijalon, and in Shaalbim, and when the hand of Iosephs familie preuailed, they became tributaries:

36 Pokrajina Amoréjcev je bila od vzpona k Akrabímu, od skale in navzgor.

And the coast of the Amorites was from Maaleh-akrabbim, euen from Selah and vpward.
