Forsothe Eliphat Themanytes answeride, and seide,

3 Glej, mnoge si poučeval in okrepil si šibke roke.
Lo! thou hast tauyt ful many men, and thou hast strengthid hondis maad feynt.
4 Tvoje besede so podpirale tistega, ki je padal in krepil si slabotna kolena.
Thi wordis confermyden men doutynge, and thou coumfortidist knees tremblynge.
5 Toda sedaj je to prišlo nadte in ti slabiš; dotika se te in si zaskrbljen.
But now a wounde is comun on thee, and thou hast failid; it touchide thee, and thou art disturblid.
6 Mar ni to tvoj strah, tvoje zaupanje, tvoje upanje in poštenost tvojih poti?
Where is thi drede, thi strengthe, and thi pacience, and the perfeccioun of thi weies?
7 Spomni se, prosim te, kdo se je kdajkoli pogubil, pa je bil nedolžen? Ali kje so bili pravični odsekani?
Y biseche thee, haue thou mynde, what innocent man perischide euere, ethir whanne riytful men weren doon awei?
8 Celo kakor sem jaz videl, tisti, ki orjejo krivičnost in sejejo zlobnost, isto [tudi] požanjejo.

13 V mislih od nočnih videnj, ko na človeka pade globoko spanje,

14 je strah prišel nadme in trepetanje, kar je vsem mojim kostem povzročilo, da so se tresle.

15 Potem je duh zdrsnil mimo mojega obraza, dlake mojega mesa so se naježile.
And whanne the spirit `yede in my presence, the heiris of `my fleisch hadden hidousnesse.
16 Ta je mirno stal, toda nisem mogel razločiti njegove oblike. Podoba je bila pred mojimi očmi, tam je bila tišina in zaslišal sem glas, rekoč:

17 ›Ali bo smrten človek pravičnejši kakor Bog? Ali bo človek čistejši kakor njegov stvarnik?

18 Glej, nobenega zaupanja ne polaga v svoje služabnike in njegovi angeli so zadolženi z neumnostjo.
Lo! thei that seruen hym ben not stidefast; and he findith schrewidnesse in hise aungels.
19 Kako veliko manj v tiste, ki prebivajo v ilnatih hišah, katerih temelj je prah, ki so zdrobljene pred moljem?
