1 Poznaš čas, ko divje skalne koze kotijo? Mar lahko zaznamuješ kdaj košute povržejo?
Knowest thou the time when the wild goats of the rock bring forth? or canst thou mark when the hinds do calve?
2 Mar lahko šteješ mesece, ki so jih dopolnile? Ali poznaš čas, ko kotijo?
Canst thou number the months that they fulfil? or knowest thou the time when they bring forth?
3 Sklonijo se in skotijo svoje mlade, odvržejo svoje bridkosti.
They bow themselves, they bring forth their young ones, they cast out their sorrows.
4 Njihovi mladiči so v dobri naklonjenosti, rastejo z žitom, gredo naprej in se ne vrnejo k njim.
Their young ones are in good liking, they grow up in the open field; they go forth, and return not unto them.
5 Kdo je divjega osla izpustil na prostost? Ali kdo je odvezal vezi divjega osla?
Who hath sent out the wild donkey free? or who hath loosed the bands of the wild donkey?
6 Čigar hišo sem naredil divjino in jalovo deželo njegova prebivališča?
Whose house I have made the wilderness, and the barren land his dwellings.
7 Zasmehuje mestno množico niti se ne ozira na vpitje voznika.
He scorneth the multitude of the city, neither regardeth he the crying of the driver.
8 Razpon gora je njegov pašnik in preiskuje za vsako zeleno stvarjo.
The range of the mountains is his pasture, and he searcheth after every green thing.
9 Mar ti bo samorog voljan služiti, ali ostane pri tvojih jaslih?
Will the unicorn be willing to serve thee, or abide by thy crib?
10 Ali lahko s svojim jermenom zvežeš samoroga v brazdo? Ali bo za teboj branal doline?
Canst thou bind the unicorn with his band in the furrow? or will he harrow the valleys after thee?
11 Mu boš zaupal, ker je njegova moč velika? Ali boš svoje trdo delo prepustil njemu?
Wilt thou trust him, because his strength is great? or wilt thou leave thy labour to him?
12 Mu boš verjel, da bo tvoje seme pripeljal domov in ga zbral v tvoj skedenj?
Wilt thou believe him, that he will bring home thy seed, and gather it into thy barn?
13 Daješ pavom čedne peruti? Ali peruti in peresa noju?
Gavest thou the goodly wings unto the peacocks? or wings and feathers unto the ostrich?
14 Ki zapušča svoja jajca na zemlji in jih ogreva v prahu
Which leaveth her eggs in the earth, and warmeth them in dust,
15 in pozablja, da jih stopalo lahko zdrobi ali da jih divja žival lahko stre.
And forgetteth that the foot may crush them, or that the wild beast may break them.
16 Trda je do svojih malih, kakor da ne bi bili njeni. Brez strahu je, da je njeno trdo delo zaman,
She is hardened against her young ones, as though they were not hers: her labour is in vain without fear;
17 ker ji je Bog odrekel modrost niti ji ni podelil razumnosti.
Because God hath deprived her of wisdom, neither hath he imparted to her understanding.
18 Ko se dvigne visoko, zasmehuje konja in njegovega jezdeca.
What time she lifteth up herself on high, she scorneth the horse and his rider.
19 Si ti dal konju moč? Si ti njegov vrat oblekel z grivo?
Hast thou given the horse strength? hast thou clothed his neck with thunder?
20 Ga lahko narediš prestrašenega kakor kobilico? Slava njegovih nosnic je strašna.
Canst thou make him afraid as a grasshopper? the glory of his nostrils is terrible.
21 Grebe v dolini in se veseli v svoji moči. Gre naprej, da sreča oborožene ljudi.
He paweth in the valley, and rejoiceth in his strength: he goeth on to meet the armed men.
22 Zasmehuje strah in ni zgrožen niti se pred mečem ne obrača nazaj.
He mocketh at fear, and is not affrighted; neither turneth he back from the sword.
23 Tul za puščice rožlja ob njem, lesketajoča sulica in ščit.
The quiver rattleth against him, the glittering spear and the shield.
24 Tla požira z okrutnostjo in besom. Niti ne verjame, da je to zvok šofarja.
He swalloweth the ground with fierceness and rage: neither believeth he that it is the sound of the trumpet.
25 Med šofarji hrže: ›Hi, hi‹ in od daleč voha bitko, grmenje poveljnikov in bojni krik.
He saith among the trumpets, Aha, aha; and he smelleth the battle afar off, the thunder of the captains, and the shouting.
26 Mar sokol leti po svoji modrosti in svoje peruti razpenja proti jugu?
Doth the hawk fly by thy wisdom, and stretch her wings toward the south?
27 Mar se orlica vzpenja ob tvoji zapovedi in svoje gnezdo dela na višini?
Doth the eagle mount up at thy command, and make her nest on high?
28 Prebiva in ostaja na skali, na skalni pečini in trdnem kraju.
She dwelleth and abideth on the rock, upon the crag of the rock, and the strong place.
29 Od tam si išče plen in njene oči zrejo daleč proč.
From thence she seeketh the prey, and her eyes behold afar off.
30 Tudi njeni mladiči srkajo kri. In kjer so umorjeni, tam je ona.«
Her young ones also suck up blood: and where the slain are, there is she.
