Job 15
1 Potem je odgovoril Elifáz Temánec in rekel:
Then answered Eliphaz the Temanite, and said,
2 »Mar naj moder človek izreka prazno znanje in svoj trebuh napolnjuje z vzhodnikom?
Should a wise man utter vain knowledge, and fill his belly with the east wind?
3 Mar naj razpravlja z nekoristnim govorjenjem? Ali z govori, s katerimi ne more storiti ničesar dobrega?
Should he reason with unprofitable talk? or with speeches which he can do no good?
4 Da, ti zametuješ strah in zadržuješ molitev pred Bogom.
Yea, thou castest off fear, and restrainest prayer before God.
5 Kajti tvoja usta izrekajo tvojo krivičnost in ti izbiraš jezik prebrisanega.
For thy mouth uttereth thy iniquity, and thou choosest the tongue of the crafty.
6 Tvoja lastna usta te obsojajo in ne jaz. Da, tvoje lastne ustnice pričujejo zoper tebe.
Thy own mouth condemneth thee, and not I: yea, thy own lips testify against thee.
7 Mar si ti prvi človek, ki je bil rojen? Ali si bil narejen pred hribi?
Art thou the first man that was born? or wast thou made before the hills?
8 Mar si slišal Božjo skrivnost? In ali sebi zadržuješ modrost?
Hast thou heard the secret of God? and dost thou limit wisdom to thyself?
9 Kaj ti veš, kar mi ne vemo? Kaj razumeš, česar ni v nas?
What knowest thou, that we know not? what understandest thou, which is not in us?
10 Z nami so sivolasi in zelo stari možje, precej starejši od tvojega očeta.
With us are both the grayheaded and very aged men, much elder than thy father.
11 Ali so Božje tolažbe zate majhne? Je s teboj kakršnakoli skrita stvar?
Are the consolations of God small with thee? is there any secret thing with thee?
12 Zakaj te tvoje srce odnaša? In ob čem tvoje oči mežikajo,
Why doth thy heart carry thee away? and what do thy eyes wink at,
13 da svojega duha obračaš zoper Boga in takšnim besedam dopuščaš iziti iz svojih ust?
That thou turnest thy spirit against God, and lettest such words go out of thy mouth?
14 Kaj je človek, da bi bil čist? In ta, ki je rojen iz ženske, da bi bil pravičen?
What is man, that he should be clean? and he who is born of a woman, that he should be righteous?
15 Glej, zaupanja ne polaga v svoje svete. Da, nebo ni čisto v njegovem pogledu.
Behold, he putteth no trust in his holy ones; yea, the heavens are not clean in his sight.
16 Kako mnogo bolj gnusen in umazan je človek, ki pije krivičnost kakor vodo?
How much more abominable and filthy is man, who drinketh iniquity like water?
17 Pokazal ti bom, poslušaj me. To, kar sem videl, bom oznanil.
I will show thee, hear me; and that which I have seen I will declare;
18 To, kar so modri možje povedali od svojih očetov in tega niso skrili,
Which wise men have told from their fathers, and have not hid it:
19 katerim samim je bila dana zemlja in noben tujec ni šel med njimi.
To whom alone the earth was given, and no stranger passed among them.
20 Zloben človek se muči z bolečino vse svoje dni in število let je skrito zatiralcu.
The wicked man travaileth with pain all his days, and the number of years is hidden to the oppressor.
21 Grozen zvok je v njegovih ušesih. V uspevanju bo nadenj prišel uničevalec.
A dreadful sound is in his ears: in prosperity the destroyer shall come upon him.
22 Ne verjame, da se bo vrnil iz teme in meč čaka nanj.
He believeth not that he shall return out of darkness, and he is waited for by the sword.
23 Naokoli tava za kruhom, rekoč: ›Kje je?‹ Ve, da je ob njegovi roki pripravljen dan teme.
He wandereth abroad for bread, saying, Where is it? he knoweth that the day of darkness is ready at his hand.
24 Stiska in tesnoba ga bosta preplašili. Prevladali bosta zoper njega kakor kralj, pripravljen na bitko.
Trouble and anguish shall make him afraid; they shall prevail against him, as a king ready to the battle.
25 Kajti svojo roko izteguje zoper Boga in se krepi zoper Vsemogočnega.
For he stretcheth out his hand against God, and strengtheneth himself against the Almighty.
26 On steče nadenj, celó na njegov vrat, na debele izbokline njegovih ščitov,
He runneth upon him, even on his neck, upon his thick strong shield:
27 ker svoj obraz pokriva s svojo mastnostjo in na svojih ledjih nabira sloje tolšče.
Because he covereth his face with his fatness, and maketh his flanks heavy with fat.
28 Prebiva v zapuščenih mestih in hišah, ki jih noben človek ne naseljuje, ki so pripravljene, da postanejo ruševine.
And he dwelleth in desolate cities, and in houses which no man inhabiteth, which are ready to become heaps.
29 Ne bo bogat, niti se ne bo njegovo imetje nadaljevalo, niti svoje popolnosti na zemlji ne bo podaljšal.
He shall not be rich, neither shall his substance continue, neither shall he prolong the perfection of it upon the earth.
30 Iz teme ne bo odšel. Plamen bo posušil njegove mladike in z dihom svojih ust bo odšel proč.
He shall not depart out of darkness; the flame shall dry up his branches, and by the breath of his mouth shall he go away.
31 Kdor je zaveden naj ne zaupa v ničnost, kajti ničnost bo njegovo povračilo.
Let not him that is deceived trust in vanity: for vanity shall be his recompence.
32 Dovršeno bo pred njegovim časom in njegova veja ne bo zelena.
It shall be accomplished before his time, and his branch shall not be green.
33 Svoje nezrelo grozdje bo otresel kakor trta in svoj cvet bo odvrgel kakor oljka.
He shall shake off his unripe grape as the vine, and shall cast off his flower as the olive.
34 Kajti skupnost hinavcev bo zapuščena in ogenj bo použil šotore podkupovanja.
For the congregation of hypocrites shall be desolate, and fire shall consume the tabernacles of bribery.
35 Spočenjajo vragolijo in rodijo ničnost in njihov trebuh pripravlja prevaro.«
They conceive mischief, and bring forth vanity, and their heart prepareth deceit.
