Jeremija 18
1 Beseda, ki je prišla Jeremiju od Gospoda, rekoč:
The word which came to Jeremiah from Jehovah, saying:
2 »Vstani in pojdi dol k lončarjevi hiši in tam ti bom povzročil, da boš slišal moje besede.«
Arise, and go down to the potter's house, and there will I cause thee to hear my words.
3 Potem sem odšel dol k lončarjevi hiši in glej, izdeloval je delo na kolesih.
So I went down to the potter's house, and behold, he was at work at the wheel.
4 Posoda, ki jo je naredil iz ila je bila iznakažena v lončarjevi roki. Tako je še enkrat naredil drugo posodo, kakor se je lončarju zdelo dobro, da jo naredi.
And the vessel which he was making of clay was marred in the hand of the potter; so he began anew and made it another vessel, as seemed good to the potter to make it.
5 Potem je k meni prišla Gospodova beseda, rekoč:
Then came the word of Jehovah to me, saying:
6 »Oh Izraelova hiša, mar ne morem narediti z vami kakor ta lončar?« govori Gospod. »Glejte, kakor je ilo v lončarjevi roki, tako ste vi v moji roki, oh Izraelova hiša.
Cannot I do after the manner of this potter With respect to you. O house of Israel, saith Jehovah? Behold, as the clay is in the hand of the potter, So are ye in my hand, O house of Israel!
7 V kakšnem trenutku bom govoril glede naroda in glede kraljestva, da ga izruvam, poderem in uničim.
Whenever I speak concerning a nation or a kingdom, That I will pluck it up, cast it down, or destroy it,
8 Če [pa] se ta narod, zoper katerega sem proglasil, obrne od svojega zla, se bom pokesal od zla, ki sem jim ga mislil storiti.
If that nation shall turn from its wickedness On account of which I threatened it, Then will I repent of the evil which I purposed to do to it.
9 V kakšnem trenutku bom govoril glede naroda in glede kraljestva, da ga zgradim in zasadim.
And whenever I speak concerning a nation or a kingdom, That I will build it, or plant it,
10 Če [pa] dela zlo v mojem pogledu, da ne uboga mojega glasu, potem se bom pokesal dobrega, s katerim sem rekel, da bi jim koristil.
And it shall do that which is evil in my sight, And not hearken to my voice, Then will I repent of the good with which I promised to bless them.
11 Zdaj torej pojdi, govori Judovim možem in prebivalcem Jeruzalema, rekoč: ›Tako govori Gospod; ›Glejte, zoper vas oblikujem zlo in zoper vas naklepam naklep. Torej se vrnite, vsakdo iz svoje hudobne poti in naredite svoje poti in svoja dejanja dobra.‹«
And now speak to the men of Judah, And to the inhabitants of Jerusalem, saying, Thus saith Jehovah: Behold, I am framing evil against you, And meditating a design against you; Return ye now every one from his evil way, And amend your ways and your doings.
12 Rekli so: »Tam ni nobenega upanja, temveč bomo hodili po svojih lastnih naklepih in vsakdo izmed nas bo počel zamisel svojega zlega srca.«
But they say, “There is no remedy, For we will walk after our own devices, And we will practise every one the perverseness of his evil heart.”
13 Zato tako govori Gospod: »Vprašajte torej med pogani, kdo je slišal takšne stvari. Izraelova devica je storila zelo strašno stvar.
Therefore thus saith Jehovah: Inquire ye now among the nations, Who hath heard such things as these? The virgin of Israel hath done a deed of horror.
14 Mar bo človek zapustil libanonski sneg, ki prihaja iz poljske skale? Mar bodo hladne tekoče vode, ki prihajajo iz drugega kraja, zapuščene?
Shall the snow from the rocks of Lebanon forsake my fields? Or shall the cold flowing waters, that come from afar, be dried up?
15 Ker me je moje ljudstvo pozabilo so zažigali kadilo ničnostim in le-ti so jim storili, da se spotikajo na svojih poteh od starodavnih steza, da hodijo po stezah, na poti, ki ni nasuta,
Yet my people have forgotten me, And burned incense to vanity; They stumble in their paths, the old ways, And walk in ways that have not been thrown up,
16 da naredijo svojo deželo zapuščeno in neprestan posmeh; vsak, kdor gre tam mimo, bo osupel in bo zmajeval z glavo.
To make their land a desolation, A perpetual hissing; Every one that passeth through it shall be amazed, And shake his head.
17 Pred sovražnikom jih bom razkropil kakor z vzhodnim vetrom; pokazal jim bom hrbet in ne obraza, na dan njihove katastrofe.«
I will scatter them before the enemy, as with the east wind; I will show them the back, and not the face, In the day of their calamity.
18 Potem so rekli: »Pridite in naklepajmo naklepe zoper Jeremija; kajti postava ne bo izginila od duhovnika, niti nasvet od modrega, niti beseda od preroka. Pridite in udarimo ga z jezikom in ne dajmo pozornosti katerikoli izmed njegovih besed.«
But they say, “Come, let us devise measures against Jeremiah; For the law shall not perish from the priest, Nor counsel from the wise, Nor the word from the prophet; Come, let us smite him with the tongue, And not give heed to any of his words.”
19 Nakloni mi pozornost, oh Gospod in prisluhni glasu tistih, ki se pričkajo z menoj.
Give heed to me, O Jehovah, And hear the voice of my adversaries!
20 Mar bo zlo poplačilo za dobro? Kajti izkopali so jamo za mojo dušo. Spomni se, da sem stal pred teboj, da govorim dobro zanje in da odvrnem tvoj bes od njih.
Shall evil be returned for good? For they have digged a pit for me. Remember how I have stood before thee, To announce good to them, And to turn away thy wrath from them!
21 Zato njihove otroke izroči lakoti in njihovo kri izlij s silo meča; in naj bodo njihove žene oropane svojih otrok in bodo vdove; in naj bodo njihovi možje usmrčeni; naj bodo njihovi mladeniči v bitki umorjeni z mečem.
Therefore give thou up their sons to famine, And deliver them to the edge of the sword! Let their wives be childless and widows, Let their men be slain by pestilence, And their young men fall by the sword in battle!
22 Naj bo krik slišan od njihovih hiš, ko boš nadnje nenadoma privedel krdelo, kajti izkopali so jamo, da bi me ujeli in skrili pasti za moja stopala.
Let a cry be heard from their houses, When thou shalt bring a troop upon them suddenly! For they have digged a pit to take me, And hidden snares for my feet.
23 Vendar, Gospod, ti poznaš vse njihove namere zoper mene, da me ubijejo. Ne odpusti njihove krivičnosti niti njihovega greha ne izbriši pred svojim pogledom, temveč naj bodo zrušeni pred teboj; tako postopaj z njimi v času svoje jeze.
Thou, O Jehovah, knowest all their plots against my life! Cover not their iniquity, And blot not out their sin from thy sight! But let them be overthrown before thee; Deal with them in the time of thy wrath!
