1 Izrael je šel na svojo pot z vsem, kar je imel in prišel v Beeršébo in žrtvoval klavne daritve Bogu svojega očeta Izaka.
Israel [God prevails] traveled with all that he had, and came to Be'er-Sheva [Well of Seven, Well of an Oath], and offered sacrifices to the God of his father, Isaac [Laughter].
2 Bog je Izraelu spregovoril v videnjih noči in rekel: »Jakob, Jakob.« Ta je rekel: »Tukaj sem.«
God spoke to Israel [God prevails] in the visions of the night, and said, “Jacob [Supplanter], Jacob [Supplanter]!” He said, “Here I am.”
3 Rekel je: »Jaz sem Bog, Bog tvojega očeta. Ne boj se iti dol v Egipt, kajti iz tebe bom tam naredil velik narod.
He said, “I am God, the God of your father. Don’t be afraid to go down into Egypt [Abode of slavery], for there I will make of you a great nation.
4 S teboj bom šel dol v Egipt in zagotovo te bom ponovno privedel gor in Jožef bo svojo roko položil na tvoje oči.«
I will go down with you into Egypt [Abode of slavery]. I will also surely bring you up again. Joseph [May he add] will close your eyes.”
5 Jakob je vstal izpred Beeršébe in Izraelovi sinovi so odvedli svojega očeta Jakoba, svoje malčke in svoje žene v vozove, ki jih je faraon poslal, da ga odpeljejo.
Jacob [Supplanter] rose up from Be'er-Sheva [Well of Seven, Well of an Oath], and the sons of Israel [God prevails] carried Jacob [Supplanter], their father, their little ones, and their wives, in the wagons which Pharaoh had sent to carry him.
6 Vzeli so svojo živino in svoje dobrine, ki so jih pridobili v kánaanski deželi in prišli v Egipt, Jakob in vse njegovo potomstvo z njim,
They took their livestock, and their goods, which they had gotten in the land of Canaan [Humbled], and came into Egypt [Abode of slavery]— Jacob, and all his offspring with him,
7 njegovi sinovi in sinovi njegovih sinov z njim, njegove hčere in hčere njegovih sinov in vse svoje potomstvo je s seboj privedel v Egipt.
his sons, and his sons’ sons with him, his daughters, and his sons’ daughters, and he brought all his offspring with him into Egypt [Abode of slavery].
8 To so imena Izraelovih otrok, ki so prišli v Egipt. Jakob in njegovi sinovi: Ruben, Jakobov prvorojenec.
These are the names of the children of Israel [God prevails], who came into Egypt [Abode of slavery], Jacob [Supplanter] and his sons: Reuben [See, a son!], Jacob [Supplanter]’s firstborn.
9 Vsi Rubenovi sinovi: Henoh, Palú, Hecrón in Karmí.
The sons of Reuben [See, a son!]: Hanoch, Pallu, Hezron, and Carmi.
10 Simeonovi sinovi: Jemuél, Jamín, Ohad, Jahín, Cohar in Šaúl, sin kánaanske ženske.
The sons of Simeon [Hearing]: Jemuel, Jamin, Ohad, Jachin, Zohar, and Shaul [Asked for] the son of a Canaanite [Descendant of Humbled] woman.
11 Lévijevi sinovi: Geršón, Kehát in Merarí.
The sons of Levi [United with]: Gershon, Kohath, and Merari.
12 Judovi sinovi: Er, Onán, Šelá, Parec in Zerah, toda Er in Onán sta umrla v kánaanski deželi. Parecova sinova pa sta bila Hecrón in Hamúl.
The sons of Judah [Praised]: Er, Onan, Shelah, Perez, and Zerah; but Er and Onan died in the land of Canaan [Humbled]. The sons of Perez were Hezron and Hamul.
13 Isahárjevi sinovi: Tolá, Puvá, Job in Šimrón.
The sons of Issachar [Hire, Reward]: Tola, Puvah, Job [Persecuted], and Shimron.
14 Zábulonovi sinovi: Sered, Elón in Jahleél.
The sons of Zebulun [Living together]: Sered, Elon, and Jahleel.
15 To so Leini sinovi, ki jih je rodila Jakobu v Padan–aramu z njegovo hčerjo Dino. Vseh duš njegovih sinov in njegovih hčera je bilo triintrideset.
These are the sons of Leah [Weary], whom she bore to Jacob [Supplanter] in Paddan Aram [Elevated], with his daughter Dinah. All the souls of his sons and his daughters were thirty-three.
16 Gadovi sinovi: Cifjón, Hagí, Šuní, Ecbón, Erí, Aród in Arelí.
The sons of Gad [Good fortune]: Ziphion, Haggi, Shuni, Ezbon, Eri, Arodi, and Areli.
17 Aserjevi sinovi: Jimná, Jišvá, Jišví, Berijá in njihova sestra Sêraha. In Berijájeva sinova: Heber in Malkiél.
The sons of Asher [Happy]: Imnah, Ishvah, Ishvi, Beriah, and Serah their sister. The sons of Beriah: Heber and Malchiel.
18 To so sinovi Zilpe, ki jo je Labán dal svoji hčeri Lei in te je rodila Jakobu: šestnajst duš.
These are the sons of Zilpah [Frailty], whom Laban [White] gave to Leah [Weary], his daughter, and these she bore to Jacob [Supplanter], even sixteen souls.
19 Sinova Jakobove žene Rahele: Jožef in Benjamin.
The sons of Rachel [Ewe sheep], Jacob [Supplanter]’s wife: Joseph [May he add] and Benjamin [Son of right hand, Son of south].
20 Jožefu sta bila v egiptovski deželi rojena Manáse in Efrájim, katera mu je rodila Asenáta, hči Potifêra, duhovnika iz Ona.
To Joseph [May he add] in the land of Egypt [Abode of slavery] were born Manasseh [Causing to forget] and Ephraim [Fruit], whom Asenath, the daughter of Potiphera, priest of On, bore to him.
21 Benjaminovi sinovi so bili Bela, Beher, Ašbél, Gerá, Naamán, Ehí, Roš, Mupím, Hupím in Ard.
The sons of Benjamin [Son of right hand, Son of south]: Bela, Becher, Ashbel, Gera, Naaman, Ehi, Rosh, Muppim, Huppim, and Ard.
22 To so Rahelini sinovi, ki so bili rojeni Jakobu. Vseh duš je bilo štirinajst.
These are the sons of Rachel [Ewe sheep], who were born to Jacob [Supplanter]: all the souls were fourteen.
The son of Dan [He judged]: Hushim.
24 Neftálijevi sinovi: Jahceél, Guní, Jecer in Šilém.
The sons of Naphtali [My wrestling]: Jahzeel, Guni, Jezer, and Shillem.
25 To so sinovi Bilhe, ki jo je Labán dal svoji hčeri Raheli in te je rodila Jakobu. Vseh duš je bilo sedem.
These are the sons of Bilhah [Bashful], whom Laban [White] gave to Rachel [Ewe sheep], his daughter, and these she bore to Jacob [Supplanter]: all the souls were seven.
26 Vseh duš, ki so z Jakobom prišle v Egipt, ki so prišle iz njegovih ledij, poleg žen Jakobovih sinov, vseh duš je bilo šestinšestdeset.
All the souls who came with Jacob [Supplanter] into Egypt [Abode of slavery], who were his direct offspring, besides Jacob [Supplanter]’s sons’ wives, all the souls were sixty-six.
27 Jožefova sinova, ki sta bila rojena v Egiptu, sta bili dve duši. Vseh duš Jakobove hiše, ki so prišle v Egipt, je bilo sedemdeset.
The sons of Joseph [May he add], who were born to him in Egypt [Abode of slavery], were two souls. All the souls of the house of Jacob [Supplanter], who came into Egypt [Abode of slavery], were seventy.
28 Pred njim je poslal k Jožefu Juda, da njegov obraz usmeri v Gošen, in prišli so v gošensko deželo.
He sent Judah [Praised] before him to Joseph [May he add], to show the way before him to Goshen [Drawing near], and they came into the land of Goshen [Drawing near].
29 Jožef je pripravil svoj bojni voz in odšel v Gošen, da sreča svojega očeta Izraela in se mu predstavi in planil je na njegov vrat in na njegovem vratu dolgo časa jokal.
Joseph [May he add] prepared his chariot, and went up to meet Israel [God prevails], his father, in Goshen [Drawing near]. He presented himself to him, and fell on his neck, and wept on his neck a good while.
30 Izrael je Jožefu rekel: »Sedaj naj umrem, ker sem videl tvoj obraz, ker si še vedno živ.«
Israel [God prevails] said to Joseph [May he add], “Now let me die, since I have seen your face, that you are still alive.”
31 Jožef je rekel svojim bratom in vsej očetovi hiši: »Odšel bom gor in faraonu pokazal ter mu rekel: ›Moji bratje in hiša mojega očeta, ki so bili v kánaanski deželi, so prišli k meni.
Joseph [May he add] said to his brothers, and to his father’s house, “I will go up, and speak with Pharaoh, and will tell him, ‘My brothers, and my father’s house, who were in the land of Canaan [Humbled], have come to me.
32 Ljudje so pastirji, kajti njihovo ukvarjanje je, da pasejo živino in pripeljali so svoje trope in svoje črede in vse, kar imajo.‹
These men are shepherds, for they have been keepers of livestock, and they have brought their flocks, and their herds, and all that they have.’
33 In zgodilo se bo, ko vas bo faraon poklical in vam rekel: ›Kaj je vaš poklic?‹
It will happen, when Pharaoh summons you, and will say, ‘What is your occupation?’
34 da boste rekli: ›Ukvarjanje tvojih služabnikov je okoli živine od naše mladosti celo do sedaj, tako mi in tudi naši očetje.‹ Da boste lahko prebivali v gošenski deželi, kajti vsak pastir je Egipčanom ogabnost.«
that you shall say, ‘Your servants have been keepers of livestock from our youth even until now, both we, and our fathers:’ that you may dwell in the land of Goshen [Drawing near]; for every shepherd is an abomination to the Egyptians [people from Abode of slavery].”
