1 Pripetilo se je ob tistem času, da je Juda šel dol od svojih bratov in vstopil k nekemu Adulámcu, katerega ime je bilo Hirá.
And it comes to pass, at that time, that Judah goes down from his brothers, and turns aside to a man, an Adullamite, whose name [is] Hirah;
2 Juda je tam videl hčer nekega Kánaanca, katerega ime je bilo Šua in vzel jo je ter šel noter k njej.
and Judah sees there the daughter of a man, a Canaanite, whose name [is] Shuah, and takes her, and goes in to her.
3 Ta je spočela in rodila sina in njegovo ime je imenoval Er.
And she conceives, and bears a son, and he calls his name Er;
4 Ponovno je spočela ter rodila sina in njegovo ime je imenovala Onán.
and she conceives again, and bears a son, and calls his name Onan;
5 Spet je spočela in rodila sina in njegovo ime je imenovala Šelá. Bil je pri Kezíbu, ko ga je rodila.
and she adds again, and bears a son, and calls his name Shelah; and he was in Chezib in her bearing him.
6 Juda je vzel ženo za svojega prvorojenca Era, ki ji je bilo ime Tamara.
And Judah takes a wife for Er, his firstborn, and her name [is] Tamar;
7 Judov prvorojenec Er pa je bil zloben v Gospodovih očeh in Gospod ga je usmrtil.
and Er, Judah’s firstborn, is evil in the eyes of YHWH, and YHWH puts him to death.
8 Juda je rekel Onánu: »Pojdi noter k ženi svojega brata in jo poroči ter svojemu bratu obudi potomca.«
And Judah says to Onan, “Go in to the wife of your brother, and marry her, and raise up seed to your brother”;
9 Onán pa je vedel, da potomec ne bo njegov in pripetilo se je, ko je šel noter k ženi svojega brata, da je to izlil na tla, da svojemu bratu ne bi dal potomca.
and Onan knows that the seed is not [reckoned] his; and it has come to pass, if he has gone in to his brother’s wife, that he has destroyed [it] to the earth, so as not to give seed to his brother;
10 Stvar, ki jo je storil, je razžalila Gospoda, zaradi česar je tudi njega usmrtil.
and that which he has done is evil in the eyes of YHWH, and He puts him also to death.
11 Potem je Juda rekel svoji snahi Tamari: »Ostani vdova, v hiši svojega očeta, dokler moj sin Šelá ne odraste, « kajti rekel je: »Da ne bi morda tudi on umrl, kakor sta njegova brata.« Tamara je odšla in prebivala v hiši svojega očeta.
And Judah says to his daughter-in-law Tamar, “Abide [as] a widow at your father’s house, until my son Shelah grows up”; for he said, “Lest he die—even he—like his brothers”; and Tamar goes and dwells at her father’s house.
12 Tekom časa je Šuova hči, Judova žena, umrla in Juda je bil potolažen in se dvignil k svojim strižcem ovc v Timno, on in njegov prijatelj Adulámec Hirá.
And the days are multiplied, and the daughter of Shuah, Judah’s wife, dies; and Judah is comforted, and goes up to his sheep-shearers, he and Hirah his friend the Adullamite, to Timnath.
13 To je bilo povedano Tamari, rekoč: »Glej, tvoj tast gre v Timno, da ostriže svoje ovce.«
And it is declared to Tamar, saying, “Behold, your husband’s father is going up to Timnath to shear his flock”;
14 Iz sebe je odložila svoje vdovske obleke, se pokrila z zagrinjalom, se ogrnila in sedla na odprt kraj, ki je na poti v Timno, kajti videla je, da je Šelá odrastel, pa mu ni bila dana za ženo.
and she turns aside the garments of her widowhood from off her, and covers herself with a veil, and wraps herself up, and sits in the opening of Enayim, which [is] by the way to Timnath, for she has seen that Shelah has grown up, and she has not been given to him for a wife.
15 Ko jo je Juda zagledal, je mislil, da je pocestnica, ker je imela svoj obraz zakrit.
And Judah sees her, and reckons her for a harlot, for she has covered her face,
16 Na poti se je obrnil k njej in rekel: »Daj, prosim te, naj pridem noter vate, « (kajti ni vedel, da je bila njegova snaha.) Ona pa je rekla: »Kaj mi hočeš dati, da lahko prideš vame?«
and he turns aside to her by the way and says, “Please come, let me come in to you,” for he has not known that she [is] his daughter-in-law; and she says, “What do you give to me, that you may come in to me?”
17 Rekel je: »Poslal ti bom kozlička od tropa.« Rekla je: »Ali mi boš dal jamstvo, dokler ga ne pošlješ?«
And he says, “I send a kid of the goats from the flock.” And she says, “Do you give a pledge until you send [it]?”
18 Rekel je: »Kakšno jamstvo naj ti dam?« Rekla je: »Svoj pečat in svoje okrasne vrvice in svojo palico, ki je v tvoji roki.« To ji je dal in prišel noter vanjo in ta je spočela z njim.
And he says, “What [is] the pledge that I give to you?” And she says, “Your seal, and your ribbon, and your staff which [is] in your hand”; and he gives to her, and goes in to her, and she conceives to him;
19 Vstala je ter odšla proč in poleg sebe položila svoje zagrinjalo iz sebe in si nadela obleke svojega vdovstva.
and she rises, and goes, and turns aside her veil from off her, and puts on the garments of her widowhood.
20 Juda je poslal kozlička po roki svojega prijatelja Adulámca, da prejme svoje jamstvo iz roke ženske, toda ta je ni našel.
And Judah sends the kid of the goats by the hand of his friend the Adullamite, to receive the pledge from the hand of the woman, and he has not found her.
21 Potem je vprašal ljudi tega kraja, rekoč: »Kje je pocestnica, ki je bila javno poleg poti?« Rekli so: »Na tem kraju ni bilo nobene pocestnice.«
And he asks the men of her place, saying, “Where [is] the separated one—she in Enayim, by the way?” And they say, “There has not been in this [place] a separated one.”
22 Vrnil se je k Judu in rekel: »Ne morem je najti in tudi ljudje tega kraja so rekli, da na tem kraju ni bilo nobene pocestnice.«
And he turns back to Judah and says, “I have not found her; and the men of the place also have said, There has not been in this [place] a separated one,”
23 Juda je rekel: »Naj si ona to vzame k sebi, da ne bova osramočena. Glej, poslal sem tega kozlička, ti pa je nisi našel.«
and Judah says, “Let her take to herself, lest we become despised; behold, I sent this kid, and you have not found her.”
24 Pripetilo se je približno tri mesece kasneje, da je bilo Judu povedano, rekoč: »Tvoja snaha Tamara je igrala pocestnico in prav tako poglej, ona je z otrokom od vlačugarstva.« Juda je rekel: »Privedite jo naprej in naj bo sežgana.«
And it comes to pass about three months [after], that it is declared to Judah, saying, “Your daughter-in-law Tamar has committed fornication; and also, behold, she has conceived by fornication”: and Judah says, “Bring her out—and she is burned.”
25 Ko je bila privedena naprej, je poslala k svojemu tastu, rekoč: »Po moškem, čigar [last] je to, sem z otrokom.« Rekla je: »Razpoznaj, prosim te, čigav je ta pečat, okrasne vrvice in palica.«
She is brought out, and she has sent to her husband’s father, saying, “To a man whose these [are], I [am] pregnant”; and she says, “Please discern whose these [are]—the seal, and the ribbons, and the staff.”
26 Juda jim je priznal in rekel: »Bolj pravična je bila kakor jaz, zato ker je nisem dal svojemu sinu Šeláju.« In ni je več ponovno spoznal.
And Judah discerns and says, “She has been more righteous than I, because that I did not give her to my son Shelah”; and he has not added to know her again.
27 Pripetilo pa se je v času njenih porodnih muk, glej, da sta bila v njeni maternici dvojčka.
And it comes to pass in the time of her bearing, that behold, twins [are] in her womb;
28 Ko je bila v porodnih mukah se je pripetilo, da je eden iztegnil svojo roko in babica je prijela ter na njegovo roko privezala škrlatno nit, rekoč: »Ta je prvi prišel ven.«
and it comes to pass in her bearing, that [one] gives out a hand, and the midwife takes and binds on his hand a scarlet thread, saying, “This has come out first.”
29 Pripetilo pa se je, ko je svojo roko potegnil nazaj, glej, je prišel ven njegov brat. Rekla je: »Kako si izbruhnil? Ta prodor bodi na tebi.« Zato je bilo njegovo ime imenovano Parec.
And it comes to pass as he draws back his hand, that behold, his brother has come out, and she says, “What! You have broken forth—the breach [is] on you”; and he calls his name Perez;
30 Nato je prišel ven njegov brat, ki je imel na svoji roki škrlatno nit in njegovo ime je bilo imenovano Zerah.
and afterward his brother has come out, on whose hand [is] the scarlet thread, and he calls his name Zerah.
